The Weekend Team News

Phil Jagielka is ruled out for Everton, though Romelu Lukaku returns. Davide Santon and Hatem Ben Arfa remain sidelined through injury. Arsenal welcome back Thomas Vermaelen and Mesut Ozil. Guy Demel emerges as a doubt for West Ham, whilst Sakho and Lucas return to training for Liverpool:

Roberto Martinez has confirmed that Phil Jagielka will miss the visit of West Ham after feeling his hamstring in the last couple of days. The injury is expected to see Jagielka ruled out for “a couple of weeks”. Antolin Alcaraz will vie with John Stones to replace Jagielka, with Roberto Martinez confirming the Paraguayan is fit and “working really well.” Elsewhere, Romelu Lukaku is available again to boost the Toffees’ striking options after being ineligible to face parent club Chelsea last week.

Newcastle will again be without the injured Davide Santon and Hatem Ben Arfa when they take on Hull at the weekend. The pair have knocks and won’t be available, though Sylvain Marveaux has returned and will be in contention for the Tigers clash.

Mesut Ozil is back in the squad for Arsenal’s trip to Stoke after missing last week with a thigh problem. Thomas Vermaelen also returns after injury, but Wenger has doubts over the fitness of left-backs Nacho Monreal and Kieran Gibbs, with the former coming off against Sunderland with a foot injury.

Sam Allardyce has revealed that defender Guy Demel has been struggling with illness after contracting a severe case of tonsillitis earlier in the week. The Hammers boss remains hopeful that the right-back will be fit to face Everton, having now returned to training. Meanwhile Andy Carroll is back in the squad following suspension, though January signing Marco Borriello continues to struggle with a calf problem.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has received a double boost with news that Mamadou Sakho and Lucas Leiva have both returned to full training following injuries. The trip to St Mary’s will come too soon for Lucas, whilst summer signing Sakho will be assessed before a final decision is made on his availability.

Victor Wanyama and Jos Hooiveld are the Saints only doubts – both will be assessed prior to the match, Mauricio Pochettino confirmed earlier today.

In last night’s European matches, Ben Davies recovered from a calf injury to start in Swansea’s loss to Napoli last night. Alex Pozuelo emerged from the bench to cement his comeback from a brief hip problem in the 3-1 defeat to Rafa Benitez’ side. Elsewhere in the Europa League, Sandro returned from a calf complaint to play 76 minutes in Tottenham’s 3-1 win over FC Dnipro.
All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Bizarre the media's point of view on the quenelle. Apparently it's very offensive and should never be seen. Yet I see it 10-20 times a day on SSN. If someone had just put their middle finger up, or swears, it gets blurred out. So what's more offensive? You don't get a 5 match ban for the finger, usually a couple. Confused again.

The quenelle has created political problems in France. There is a lot more into it than you can think and it is a very difficult matter.
A french comedian used it in a sketch where he made fun of Jews. So it has been assimilated to an antisemite gesture.

Not interested in the British media's reaction, as they (with a few honourable exceptions) haven't taken the time to research the topic.

Dieudonné uses the symbol in a stand-up routine where it is unequivocally anti-semitic. Saying that the gesture is 'anti-system' is utterly disingenuous, and Anelka would have been aware of this.

This really isn't the forum to discuss something as sensitive as this, but the French people I know all think that Anelka's been very lucky to get off with a 5-match ban.

And the Albion fans don't care as he's been useless on the pitch, but that's a separate matter.

Its considered an anti semetic gesture that anti semetic people photograph themselves doing outside of sacred Jewish places. It has caused a lot of grief in france than over here, global sport now etc. etc.

FPL should have a 3.8 option for a cardboard cutout of Higuita in goal. Only points you'd score would be in badassness but totally worth freeing up that backup spot stead of a 4th stringer.

Currently have Silva on the bench for the next 2 weeks, with 9 players for GW29 (although one of those is Januzaj who may not play). Currently have 1FT.

Tempting to sell Silva for someone with 2 fixtures (eg Ince or Snodgrass), but I'd only then have to use a transfer reversing that move. Thinking that's a bad idea considering there are 4 other transfers I want to make for GW31 (Kosc, Januzaj, Lallana, Ade - Kolarov, Sterling, Nolan, Aguero).

So, save the transfer to get 9 DGWs for no hits in GW31 (9 for GW29), or sell Silva and spend 8 points to get the same GW31 team (but have 10 players for GW29)?

One guarantee is that Silva will get you 0 points over the next 2 GWs and maybe no more than 1 vs. Hull (due to rotation).

Why not just sell and take a punt? Worst case scenario is you waste a FT and use a hit to get him back in for the DGW, which your replacement should make up for easily in the next 3 GWs

Yeah fair point, but City have a week until their next game after Hull (I think that's right?) so surely a reduced chance of a rest there?

And it works out as an 8 pointer to get him back, as it means no transfer saved this week and an extra transfer to make. So the play I get in would have to score 8 points in the next 2 for it to pay off.

Hmm could be worth a punt I guess. Would be more tempting if it wasn't Snodgrass and Ince I was having to pin my hopes on.

Actually it's 8 points plus whatever Chester scores this week, as I'd play Snod/Ince this week and bench Chester. Potentially 10 points the new guy would have to score over 2 weeks to make it worthwhile. Really not sure it's worth it...

Shaw as 1st sub. Both will most likely concede though.

Alright geezers. The big question this GW:

Snodgrass or Ince for next 3?

    Snodgrass: avl STO sot

+ Most important attacking player for Norwich (100% goal involvement in last 3 goals)
+ Team/player form + Norwich desperate for points before their tough fixtures commence
+ FPL pedigree from last season

    - Norwich don't score much
    - Not many players in his range apart from Nolan

    Ince: swa SOT sun

    + Cheaper than Snoddy
+ Seems very central to Palace's attack
+ Decent player / team form
    + Better fixtures

    - Palace may not have enough motivation to go for the kill

    Thoughts?

As of tonight I will have both 😉 with a plan to sell the one who doesn't perform by 31. I'd say Norwich away from home could be good for Snod, as they are more likely to concede and given their situation they will throw the kitchen sink at getting a goal. Flip side of course is having seen Ince play, he is always in the right areas.
