Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 28 – Sunday

Christian Benteke bags a brace as Villa hammer Norwich. Robert Snodgrass is an early weekend worry after being forced off with a wrist problem. Roberto Soldado grabs the only goal of the game as Spurs squeeze past Cardiff at the Lane, whilst Jonathan de Guzman and Glenn Murray notch a goal apiece as Swansea and Palace draw at the Liberty:

Benteke at the Double
The big Belgian’s four-match drought ended in style yesterday as he helped Villa serve up an emphatic home win over Norwich. Benteke’s two goals and maximum bonus against the Canaries helped him to a 13-point haul – his highest tally of the season – and brought his recent record to five goals and a pair of assists in his last eight league matches. Whilst a blank Gameweek 29 and home clash with Chelsea the following weekend is enough for us to steer clear for the time being, the subsequent schedule remains kind for Paul Lambert’s side. With Stoke, Fulham, Southampton and Hull still to visit Villa Park, in addition to trips to Palace and Swansea, Benteke may yet have a part to play in our Fantasy plans for the run-in. Leandro Bacuna is another name worthy of consideration. Despite being fielded at right-back in a 4-3-3, he netted for the fifth time in the league this season yesterday and has now scored in three of the last six Gameweeks for the Midlands outfit.

Injury Worries Build for Hughton
The Canaries rolled up to Villa without two of the XI that started last week’s win over Tottenham. Leroy Fer was sidelined with a hamstring injury, whilst Ricky Van Wolfswinkel also missed out due to a knee problem – replacements Wes Hoolahan and Gary Hooper combined for Norwich’s solitary strike in the 4-1 defeat, with the former finding the net. Unfortunately for Chris Hughton, however, yesterday’s result was compounded by the half-time withdrawal of Robert Snodgrass. The Scot had notched twice in his previous three matches and had started to find form but was subbed off after picking up a wrist injury – his owners face an anxious wait ahead of next weekend, with our Gameweek 29 midfield options seemingly diminishing by the day right now.

Soldado Drought Finally Over as Sherwood Rolls Out a 4-4-2
In his first league start since Gameweek 24, the Spaniard was Tottenham’s hero by grabbing the only goal of the home win over Cardiff. Tim Sherwood kept faith in the system that saw off FC Dnipro in Thursday evening’s Europa League encounter, with Soldado partnering Emmanuel Adebayor up top once more and the Togo international was again in the points by supplying the assist for the summer signing’s strike. Sherwood may have missed the talents of Christian Eriksen due to a back problem but his defence once again stood solid and delivered a third clean sheet in the last five Gameweeks – a run coinciding with the return to action of Jan Vertonghen, with Spurs conceding just twice over that period.

Solskjaer Shuffles His Pack Again
The Cardiff boss continues to utilise the depth of his squad, though the results remain the same. Yesterday saw Solskjaer make six changes from the side that were hammered at home by Hull last weekend – the Welsh club lined up in a 5-3-2 formation, with Wilfried Zaha, Magnus Wolff Eikrem and Kenwyne Jones amongst those benched, whilst Craig Noone confirmed via twitter he was missing after picking up a slight knock. The 1-0 defeat may have restricted Spurs’ attacking endeavours but the result means Cardiff have now failed to score in six of their new manager’s eight games at the helm.

De Guzman Starting to Produce Consistently
The Dutchman is becoming an increasingly influential figure for Swansea as the season picks up pace. Yesterday’s goal against Palace means de Guzman has now scored or assisted in four of his last six starts – also picking up points against the likes of City, Fulham and Liverpool in recent matches. With Pablo Hernandez subbed off early with a recurrence of his hamstring injury and both Jonjo Shelvey and Michu still sidelined, de Guzman may turn out to be a real differential punt for those eyeing up the Welsh club over the next few weeks. Garry Monk’s side have a blank next weekend but, following that, clashes with West Brom, Norwich and Hull in the subsequent four may well appeal.

Murray on the Spot for Palace
Fit enough only for the bench after picking up a midweek training ground knock, the forward replaced Tom Ince at the break as Tony Pulis moved to two up top. The Eagles boss was rewarded after Murray stepped up to slot home a late spot-kick and deny Swansea the points, though much of the talk centred around the absence of Jason Puncheon. Unconfirmed reports suggest Pulis indicated that Puncheon was “rested” for the Liberty showdown but, given that the wide man had started each of the previous 14 Gameweeks, yesterday’s turn of events is hardly reassuring for those owners who were banking on his presence for the already decimated Gameweek 29 schedule next weekend. Ince’s half-time withdrawal hardly bodes well for his game time, either.

    Hi all,

Really struggling to know what to do with my second FT this week - already done Mert > Evra.

    Boruc
    Evra Cahill Ward
    lallana Mata Hazard Ince
    Adebayor

Bench: K.Davis | Baines Chester | Colback | Suarez Studge
Bank: 1 mil (as I'm saving 3.9 to get Aguero in)

    A. Colback > Bellemy/ Richardson
    B. Chester > Cardiff / Fulham cheapie
    C. Save
    D. Other?

    Anyone??? Need some help lads:

    Boruc

    Ward Azpi Ivanovic

    Mata Hazard Noone

    Lambert

(K.Davis Nolan Sturridge Suarez Yaya Bruce Koscielny)

    8 players, 0.5itb and 2FTs

    Spend 1 or 2FTs?
Koscielny out first i'm thinking but only defender I'd want in is Evra which can't afford with 1 FT
Everyone apart from Kos has doubles coming up so would make sense to keep them?

    Any advice very welcome! Cheers

      No-one knows.

They have two games waiting to be rearranged - CRY and new. Consensus is that the CRY game can't be GW31 because Liverpool are at home that same midweek and there would be policing issues. But the new game could be that week giving them (SWA, new) which would be worth investing in.

      Hopefully we'll find out soon.

They don't need to prove it was intentional or not (It's Charlie Adam, definitely intentional imo as he is a track record of doing this)
The only thing that matters is whether the ref says he saw it or not, if the ref sees he didn't see the incident then Adam is getting a ban

He's getting a ban then surely, intention doesn't matter. All that matters is whether the ref would have given a red if he saw it and it's pretty obvious to everyone that is a red. Stoke might appeal though so he's not entirely out of the running to play this week

                  Ah yes. Thanks Q.

Just read what Graham Poll says:

"Of course it is very difficult to prove intent but I do not think you need to in this case. Nor do you need to ask the referee if he saw the incident clearly as the FA has a panel in place to judge that."

Yeah they did change the rules about the ref seeing it but the FA keep flip flopping so it's hard to know what will happen. Sometimes they completely ignore certain incidents and this might be one of them, time will tell!

got 2 free transfers. thinking of doing Benteke > Rooney, and Kosch > evra? This will leave me with 8 players.

Sound moves or stick with just the one ft?

If you can afford Kosch -> Evra then perhaps just do that transfer.

I would only bring Rooney in if you plan to keep him longer term (with aguero coming back this seems unlikely)

I predict a 1-1 draw between WBA and Man Utd so i probably wouldn't buy either of them but who knows...

I can't figure out if the beast in one of my leagues if great or very lucky. He seems like he's part time, wasting FT's, not making transfers for weeks, weird double ups, transferring in people who only have 1 game before a blank, and so much more. Yet in GW 24 he was ranked 227.
He now has 11 players who blank next week. He was 140 ahead 9 weeks ago, it's now 70.
I think I can catch him, but what's his deal?

I have something similar in my ML too. Managed to cut it down to 32 points now.

70 is still doable IMO. Anything can happen in the DGWs.

Haha I think we all have one of those, my one is practically a wizard. He gets in players that have been dropped and have practically no chance of starting and then the following week they start due to a combination of injuries and magic- the transfers he makes would be the equivalent of getting in Ashley Cole now, the only difference is if he gets him he starts. In fact he actually did do that and Ivan ended up missing a game so Azpi went RB and Cole came in as LB if memory serves me right

May need an enabler this week who's nailed on..what are the choices ?....What happened to Steven Davis at the weekend ?...is he going to be rotated ?..I notice a few Sidwell transfers in on TotalFPL, I'm assuming it for the same reason..is that the best enabler now ?

Not sure on your budget but you have a few options up front:

Hooper, Lambert, J Rod, Adebayor, Rooney & RVP.

I would probably go with Rooney or RVP if you can afford and Lambert or J Rod if you don't have the funds.

Mertesacker > Fonte this week and then WC next?
Else, I can save the transfer, take a hit and save the WC going with only 7 players in the DGW

            In that case, GW29 team:
            Marshall / Speroni
            Ivanovic Azpilicueta Fonte Olsson
            Hazard Mata Lallana Eriksen* Lallana*
            JRod

And, I would be forced to play WC to have the DGW players.

He'll play barca game so I doubt he plays Hull on GW 30. He plays the derby for sure but maybe 30-45 mins vs fulham in DGW

Most people will aim for Suarridge Aguero but Aguero's fitness issues might make Rooney the better option. I'm sure he always does well against the Baggies and City anyway

i'm really struggling to understand all the Rooney hype. Last time i looked he was playing in midfield and has only scored once in his last 6 game weeks

No hype, just a gut feeling really. Fully expect everyone to go for Suarez Aguero and Sturridge. Tbf I will get Aguero in for Rooney pretty soon after this DGW

                          Evra, Cahill, Olsson, Gabb*
                          Mata, Snoddy, Lallana, Noone, Hazard
                          Ade

                          (Adrian, Mannone, Kosc, Suarez, Sturridge)

At the moment can field 9 for GW29 as Gabb has lost his spot. Have 1 FT and 3.7 in the bank. Which looks better?

                          A) This week Kosc > Lovren, this then allows
                          GW 30 Ade > Aguero
                          GW 31 Wildcard

I have both and want for rest of season. Obviously if I could only have 1 then Yaya is the better option for DGW and beyond as they have 2 more DGW to come.

Might go for Lallana, Chelsea don't have the best fixtures after this gameweek and don't fancy doubling up on southampton defence.

                              Thanks for your response.

100% to do with this tweeting incident in my mind. if he was rested he'd have been on the bench, also there was absolutely nothing to rest him for. if pulis is claiming rested he's saying there is no injury or illness, so it's all far too much of a coincidence not to be the warnock tweet stuff

I agree. You would think that Pulis would have made more of it publicly though if, as is likely, it is a punishment. Punishing somebody with no announcement is akin to having a nuclear deterrent, but forgetting to tell anybody . . .

I reckon he has been given an internal suspension by the club in order to try and lessen or avert any ban the FA will hand out i.e. "its being handled by the club"
