Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Time

Having played his part in the tussle that saw Andy Carroll suspended for violent conduct back in Gameweek 24, Swansea’s Chico Flores took centre stage in last Sunday’s home draw with Palace. The Spaniard was sent packing for denying Glenn Murray a goal-scoring opportunity at the Liberty and will resultantly serve a one-match ban next time around:

With no fixture this weekend, the Swans centre-half will be sidelined for the Gameweek 30 home clash against West Brom before returning to action the following weekend as Garry Monk’s men pay visit to Everton.

Chico is one of just two players currently unavailable for selection. Nicolas Anelka was handed a five-match ban by the FA last week for his “quenelle” gesture against West Ham back in late December. The detailed reasons behind the decision are expected to be made public today and the West Brom forward may yet decide to appeal the verdict – in the meantime, the Baggies have suspended the player until the situation is clarified, with some reports yesterday suggesting the FA could even extend the Frenchman’s spell on the sidelines.

Charlie Adam’s Fantasy owners are awaiting news after the FA charged the Stoke midfielder with violent conduct yesterday. If found guilty, the Scot could be set for a three-match ban for his alleged stamp on Olivier Giroud during the Potters’ 1-0 win over Arsenal last weekend – he has until 6pm today to respond, though his club have already confirmed they will “appeal vigorously” against the decision. Stoke owner Peter Coates slammed the verdict as “appalling”, going on to say:

“We are disgusted. Charlie absolutely assures us it was not intentional. I defy anyone to look at that and say it was. We will defend it vigorously. Yaya Toure recently lashed out at a player (Norwich’s Ricky van Wolfswinkel) and nothing got done. We are shocked and believe the charge is totally unnecessary.”

On this week’s Suspension Tightrope, we now have 10 players with eight or more yellows to their name. West Brom’s Jonas Olsson leads the way on nine – one more caution before the next amnesty (Gameweek 34) and he will pick up a ban.

Chelsea’s Ramires is the latest addition to our list after being booked in Saturday’s win at London neighbours Fulham. The Brazilian is one of six midfielders who have now accrued eight cautions – Fabian Delph, Gareth Barry, Cheick Tiote, Jon Walters and Claudio Yacob are the other guilty parties – whilst David Luiz, Marouane Chamakh and Wayne Rooney also need to tread carefully in order to avoid incurring the referee’s wrath.

10 fixtures in an average GW.

    5 fixtures in GW29.

    Can't we just have GW31 and GW31.5? 😀

I'd bet over 60% of _relevant_ teams will be SAS for Suarez-Agurero-Sturridge. Count out dead teams and those in need of mad differential to get anywhere near top 100k.

In fact, I won't bet my house on this, but I'd guess about 80% or even more of top 100k will have Suarez-Aguero-Sturridge.

I still have my wildcard so am waiting for the right moment to play it. Surely GW31 wont be the last DGW of the season? Isn't it better to play the WC when only a few teams have a DGW instead of playing the WC when so many teams have DGWs (like DGW 31)?

I think of the WC as a golden opportunity to pack out one's team with DGWers when it would otherwise be too costly in terms of points hits to do so. So surely better to play it when the average team can muster 4 or 5 DGWers (collary of that being that with a WC one can assemble 11 DGWers)?

Problem is that people will get 3 City in GW31, 1-2 Everton and 1-2 Sunderland and leave them in, knowing there are further DGW's for them.

True, but in the interim between DGW 31 and DGW 36, it may not be optimal to hold Everton and Sunderland players. Having a WC means you dont have to plan transfers in the 5 weeks leading up to DGW, when any variety of things (injury, dropped out of squad, loss of form in attack or defence) may scupper your plans. 5 GWs is a very long time....

Yep, I'm considering GW30 as an alternative.

Allows me to get in my doublers before they all rise in price, and there's a good correlation between doublers I'd want and good fixtures in GW30.

    What's the latest on Puncheon?

Will he banned from playing or is just up to the club now?

so here's my latest GW31 draft..it leaves 1m leftover but I've only just realized now (guess I was stuck in fantasy land until now) that I have too many players to be useful..

    Boruc - Mannone
    Ward - Collins - Coleman - Ivan - Azpi
    AJ - Nolan - Gerrard - Yaya - Noone
    Suarez - Aguero - Studge

I'm now regretting getting in double Chelsea defense..think the defense needs work as I'll be playing a 3-4-3

you know what..I take it back, the draft is probably fine, I'll just bench Azpi for that week.

I'm considering Stevie in for him..but Chelsea's fixtures after that are pretty good..

Any opinion on Smalling anyone? 1.1% ownership, started the last 5 games (3 CS), £5.1M.

I don't rate him as a player but fantasy-wise he looks ok?

Is there any possibility of the elusive triple gameweek?

Ah Zigic captain, what a failure that was...

Possible for City or Sunderland if UEFA enforce rules on playing midweek.

Looking at a front 7 for GW31 of:

    Gerrard Hazard Ramsey Yaya
    Suarez Aguero Sturridge

    Any glaring omissions?
