The Community Round Up

We’re half wondering what will occupy the Fantasy Football Scout community once Gameweek 31 has passed – probably Gameweek 34’s doubles. For now, however, it’s all about the next set of fixtures as the transfer options continue to be sifted, with the potential of Everton’s spot-kick specialist, Leighton Baines, coming under particular scrutiny this week. We also look back on discussions on the Sunderland back-four, midfield heavy-hitters and a string of differentials as double-Gameweek fever strengthens its grip. Elsewhere in our round-up, we drop in on the latest ups and downs in the community leagues.

The Hottest Topics

The agonising wait for Gameweek 31 has continued to produce a number of key dilemmas, the latest being the merits of swooping for an Everton defender in the light of the announcement of their Gameweek 34 double. The key decision being pondered last week was whether to draft in Seamus Coleman or opt for the pricey set-piece supremo that is Leighton Baines.

An emphatic case for Baines was put forward in our catch-up on defenders’ bonus points, while the debate around Coleman or Baines was also the subject of Keith’s discussion. He wondered whether Coleman was still creating the chances that made him such an attractive prospect at the start of the season; yesterday’s winner against Cardiff may well have quelled those fears.

There’s also a certain “theory” that threatens to dent Baines’ appeal. Our research showed that there is a correlation between Romelu Lukaku’s starts and a dip in Baines’ average points per game. R✪melu, however, was on hand to show that the devil is in the detail when it comes to the Baines and Lukaku hypothesis.

If you’re overlooking the Toffees rearguard, how about a cheeky punt on Sunderland’s back four for their double Gameweek? The community examined the Black Cats’ defence in some detail, with Kings of Lyon underlining the potential of loanee full-back Marcos Alonso.

Our midfields were also treated to some community love, with Your Mum’s Athletic stepping in to cast his eye over a trio of Gameweek 31 heavyweight options, David Silva, Steven Gerrard and Juan Mata. TW duly added that Samir Nasri is another option worthy of our consideration.

For those looking for something a little different, Vince ‘Newcastle’ Mcmahon asked for the community’s top double Gameweek 31 differentials. Among those being put forward were Newcastle’s Mousa Sissoko by Tinkerman , while Tommy J nominated Andy Carroll – a player who remained on the radar following yesterday’s strike at Stoke. There were further differentials discussed in Scroobius Mac’s hot topic only yesterday.

Finally, the week wouldn’t be complete without another discussion of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) rules. This time around, it was the January Wildcard being dragged in for questioning. Torres Magic asked whether we should keep or ditch the New Year refresh, with a varied reaction from the community voices.

The Community Tournaments

With a score of 66, Gloria Kanchelskis was the Gameweek 29 winner of @ocprodigy’s Scout Picks Challenge, an FPL game which is loosely based on our very own Scout Picks.

Those who failed to qualify for our Paddy Power Cup, which resumed this weekend, have themselves their own cup tournament, created by AZ. Sadly, he was a first round victim in his own tournament, crashing out to Cowboy John who notched an impressive Gameweek 29 tally of 74 points. Jack1980, who registered 34 points, was the lowest scoring winner of the round. Those who found safe passage to the knock-out stages included DannyRex, Trust John, D1sable, BsloeBadger, Castiel, HamsterGod, @ocprodigy and Lazurus.

In Torres Magic’s leagues, 75 remain in his Last Man Standing competition following Gameweek 29 and six are yet to go broke in his Millionaire Club. The FPL Open first round saw some of our community regulars clash head-on, including Ronh vs Bouncebackability and Fresco vs GTS is under repair. There’s still time to enter TM’s Elite 64 competition, which is for those in the top 10,000.

Ahead of Gameweek 30, Gaz Downright held onto the Fantasy Football Scout’s Moderators and Contributors lead by a slender one-point margin. Similarly there was no change in the The Iron Man competition, for those taking part in multiple games, Gigging Order, In Like Flynn and Jonty topped its Sky, Metro and FPL components respectively following Gameweek 29’s fixtures.

    Any of these moves worth the hit?

    My transfers for this GW were:

    Snoddy>YYT

    Benteke>Aguero

    Aguero>Lukaku

    Didnt cover the hit points, since Snoddy scored and Lukaku didnt do anything more than Benteke.

    Good evening Dead zoners,

    Excuse the double post but this was the last post on previous page: Rate my WC team,

    Bit the bullet and lost 0.8m on Haz to have a full team of DGWers:

    Szceny (Mannone)

    Coleman, Zabaleta, Evra (Dummet, Bardsley)

    Gerrard, Sissoko, Silva, Yaya (Livermore)

    Sturridge, Suarez (c), Rooney

    My main concern is the 3rd striker - not really a fan of either Rooney or Lukaku, not sure who else to go for though! Any ideas comments or any part of the team at all?

      Watching man utd last night just can't trust their offence. Only januzaj looks half decent.
      I'd either go lukaku giroud Carroll or maybe benteke.

      I personally went Carroll, might as well take a risk.

    I am happy with my front 8, but working on the defense still. My team at the moment,

    Suarez, Sturridge, Lukaku
    Silva, Yaya T, Gerrard, AJ (Ki)

    Coleman, Chester, McCartney, (Cahill 5.9, Azpil 5.5 )
    Mannone, Boruc

    0.5 in the bank, and on my WC.

    I'm trying to decide if I should swap out one or both of the Chealsea guys until after GW34 for players with 2 DGWs.

    Cahill --> Zabelata ?
    Azpil --> Distin ?

    Both? Any ideas appreciated. I'm leaning towards the more expensive guys but am not at all sure.

    Thoughts on this for a WC + plan?

    Manonne
    Baines, Williamson, Chester
    Yaya, Silva, Gerrard, AJ
    Suarez, Sturridge, Lukaku

    Gazzaniga, Terry, Dann, Delph
    Bank 1.9m

    GW32: Gerrard -> Hazard
    GW33: Save
    GW34: Terry & Sturridge -> Distin & Aguero

    Will give me 11 DGWers for GW31 and 9 DGWers for GW34 without any hits.

    Hi everyone, already posted this a few hours earlier, but I currently need all the help I can get. Thanks a lot.

    so after a terrible week for me that saw me slide down the rankings and has put me 70 points behind my ML rival, I have activated my wildcard. The thing is though, after I have a bad GW I just lose all my confidence in my ability to make the correct fantasy football decisions, so any help on how to change my WC team will be massively appreciated. Thanks a lot 🙂

    Mannone

    Distin Zabaleta Chester

    Johnson Nolan Sterling Yaya

    Suarez Sturridge Lukaku

    Bench: K. Davis, Ward, Hazard, Shaw

    Thanks for any tips, and hopefully I can have a big GW and get back at my rival!!

        My rival has a really weird team, but just seems to get 'lucky' in his picks. For example, last week he had Caulker, and this week he benched Zabaleta to double up on the Arsenal defence; so my plan is to just pick the best team I can, and hope that he has a few bad picks.

        Cheers mate 🙂 but my rival doesn't actually own Hazard, as I mentioned above he has a really weird team, but always makes a good (or lucky) pick. For example, he signed Caulker last week, and benched Zaba to play 2 Arsenal defenders this week. Would you still get rid of Hazard if he doesn't own him?

          ok - then id probably keep - you might want to try a henderson rather than a gerrard - unlikely that hell score more but really gerrards points are mostly coming from pens - you just got to hope than henderson knicks one and youve saved about 3 mill and able to get someone better elsewhere.

            Henderson could be a decent shout actually, he seems to play every game, and surely Gerrards penalties have to dry up some time soon (though with Suarez and Sturridge always making runs into the box, this is probably more hope than anything). Cheers! 🙂

        I think anything inbetween 150-200 is quite possible..

        Liverpool just needs to win both their fixtures 3-0 and City needs to beat Fulham by a similar margin, Everton to keep a CS and Arsenal to shut out Swansea

    Does anyone think Dummett may be a decent shout for a budget defensive option?

      Maybe. For the next few games should be ok. I wonder what will happen when both Debuchy and Santon will be back. Check out Chester 3.8, Dann 4.0?!

    McGregor
    Coleman Baines Collins (Terry, Olsson)
    Silva Yaya Gerrard Ki (Lallana)
    Suarez Sturridge Lukaku

    Surely this has to be a good week! 11 double gameweekers (although Collins maybe not). No hits.

    Jrod to dzeko for -4 and bench hazard, or play hazard?

      Play haz. Dzeko isn't guaranteed 2 starts so with a -4 head start haz is favourite

    Play Hazard and Cahill? Or bench for Bardsley and Livermore...

      Might as well play Beardsley - not sure Cahill can keep clean v arsenal and Beardsley always capable of a sneaky goal.
      I would not play Livermore over hazard thou.

    Besides Suarez, my other strikers are Rvp and jrod.
    That does NOT feel me with confidence for Dgw.

    Already did llalana to silva so any transfer is for a hit.

    Any suggestions for a hit that makes sense?

    Baines Ivan vlaar (r Bennett ward)
    Silva AJ sterling mirallas hazard
    Rvp Suarez (jrod)

          Keep Ivan. You`ll need him back for the nice fixts after the double. Taugh call! Not worthy this move imo. I would have preferred to have Sturridge + $$ for RVP, but having an expensive Forward @ 13.6, unfortunately leaves you not too many good options worthy a -4. I think in your situation I`d keep what I have, play 3-5-2 and start planning a team RVPless for GW 34. You might still get decent points. Good luck

    My DF for DGW.

    Coleman - Evra - Ivan - Fonte - Ward

    Is there any move worth 4pts hit? Just 0.4m in bank.

    A: Fonte -> Kosc
    B: Ward -> Chester
    C: Ivan -> Zabaleta
    D: Else

      I think C could pay off nicely. I'm tempted to do a similar move but ditch Azpil instead (as much as it pains me). Citeh's 3 extra games surely make it worth it.

    Now be brave and prepare yourself for the run of 2/3-pointers from Silva along with occasional 5-pointer. As this is what he does.

      Yep

      I still picked him over the likes of Nolan/AJ/Nasri. Consistency.

      I'll be happy with 7-10 points from him.

    My current team is:

    Mannone (Marshall)
    Baines Collins Ward (Olsson Turner)
    Yaya Hazard Nolan Snodgrass (Punch)
    SAS Lukaku

    For the DGW would you rather have:

    A) Gerrard and kolarov (-4) in for Snoddy and Turner
    B) Sterling and Coleman (-4) in for Snoddy and Turner
    C) Something else

    Ideally want Gerrard and Coleman, but can't afford it without other downgrades.
