The Weekend Team News

Tomas Rosicky is a doubt for Arsenal. Everton’s Steven Pienaar is out for at least a fortnight. Ashkan Dejagah adds to Fulham’s injury woes. Hatem Ben Arfa returns for Newcastle, Sunderland are set to be without Steven Fletcher at Norwich, Crystal Palace will be without the services of Marouane Chamakh once more, whilst Morgan Amalfitano and Billy Jones remain sidelined for West Brom:

Arsene Wenger has confirmed Tomas Rosicky is Arsenal’s only injury worry for tomorrow lunchtime’s crunch encounter at Stamford Bridge. The Czech international has picked up an ankle problem and faces a fitness test later today.

Southampton have a number of concerns in midfield for the trip to Tottenham. In this morning’s press conference, Mauricio Pochettino has revealed Morgan Schneiderlin, Guly Do Prado and Gaston Ramirez are all concerns, whilst Victor Wanyama and Jack Cork remain doubts.

Roberto Martinez has ruled Steven Pienaar out of the clash with Swansea at the weekend. The Spaniard expects Pienaar to remain on the sidelines for two to three weeks with a knee problem. Meanwhile, the Toffees’ boss remains optimistic on club captain Phil Jagielka’s fitness, suggesting the defender is 50-50 for the visit of Swansea.

Fulham’s injury problems continue to mount as Felix Magath ruled out Ashkan Dejagah, Dan Burn, and Kostas Mitroglou for the Etihad trip. Scott Parker also remains sidelined with a knee problem, though Magath believes the midfielder could return to contention against Everton next week.

Hatem Ben Arfa will return to the Newcastle squad at the weekend, after missing the loss to Fulham due to personal reasons. Elsewhere Davide Santon is sidelined with tonsillitis, having not trained during the week.

Sunderland will be without Steven Fletcher against the Canaries this weekend. The club is awaiting a prognosis on the ankle injury that forced the forward off against Palace at the weekend, amid fears he could be ruled out for the rest of the season.

Tony Pulis has confirmed that the club remain without Marouane Chamakh because of a hamstring injury. Dwight Gayle is a doubt, having been sent for scans after picking up an injury in training during the week.

Baggies boss Pepe Mel will again be without injured duo Morgan Amalfitano and Billy Jones for the KC Stadium encounter at the weekend. Jonas Olsson has also been ruled out as he serves the first of a two-game suspension.

Chris Hughton has conceded that Michael Turner won’t be risked for the visit of Sunderland, having only just returned to action for the reserves following months out with a hamstring injury. Jonas Gutierrez (calf) is unlikely to face the Black Cats, with Hughton going on to say midfielder Leroy Fer is still “a few weeks” away from a return to action.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Straight up shoot out this Gameweek between Andy Carroll and Romelu Lukaku, what are people's thoughts?

    Lukaku (SWA, new)
    Carroll (MUN, HUL)

Lukaku has gotten a goal and 1 assist in his last 236 minutes of football.
Carroll has gotten a goal and 2 assists in his last 200 minutes of football.

They're fairly even in the comparison tool in the members area..

    Carroll is 1.5m cheaper.

Everton are superior to both teams they're playing, which means more chances.

      West Ham are not.

Did you watch Utd play Olympiacos? If they play like that again West Ham are toast! But only if they can play like that again with such intensity.

Othewise, I expect it to be 1-1 or something.

United won't play like that though, that was a champions league last 16 match at home.

West Ham away in the BPL is a completely different match, much more physical, much less skill, and I doubt RVP will pop up with another hattrick.

Their team is so good attacking that Cabeye is on the bench! PSG just has so much going forward, but then they have Silva and Marquinhos (Best U20 defender I've ever seen) at the back, that's devastating. They will be the toughest team Chelsea has faced this season imo

Let's say, they will go all-in-defence and just counter, and probably it will end up being very tight as you said. I believe it will. But let's suppose that they can't completely handle that PSG attack and will concede the first goal early on. After that, Blanc will not allow them to just counter, he is conservative enough in that respect, so Chelsea will have to raise their defence line, and Cahill, Ivanovic and Terry just ain't that fast, players like Lavezzi, Lucas and Cavani could well tear that defence in pieces with Ibra if they go one up on first half. That could well see Chelsea lose by 3 or so the first match, and after that the same game would continue in the second leg.

I mean that I really believe that it will be a tight clash that can go either way, with Chelsea mostly countering, but the risk with that strategy is that if opponent truly outplays you and you start to go down you need to reverse that game plan and come out as the stronger side and I am not sure if this Chelsea team can really do that against a team as strong as PSG. It's probably mostly just because of lack of quality in central midfield and particularly in attack. They will at least need Eto'o to have a true field day if they are going to win PSG by dominating them. And even then you just have to reckon that PSG has a lot of countering qualities to put in play if they go one up on first half.

Chelsea and Mourinho have both proven in the past that they are both fantastic defensively and are the only team in the entire world I could see keeping PSG out, but it'll be extremely difficult.

If they open themselves up and attack, they're doomed. PSG aren't amazing defensively, Chelsea could nick a goal from a free kick and Terry header or Hazard actually doing something important for once.

What I wonder is how come PSG is not impressive defensively? I reckon they have a little unreliable GK, but so do many other teams and in comparison their defence fares really really well. They basically only concede when they have already assured that they get what they need and have usually rotated a big number of defensive players. But fear not, there will be no rotation against Chelsea, because they have all but assured the title in their domestic league and will be able to focus completely to the CL games.

Yeah, but if PSG can score against that blue bus, then Mourinho will have to go out in attack and that may backfire badly.

Let me put it this way: this is probably a very tight pair and I'd say Chelsea are the favourites. However, I cannot see a possibility that Chelsea would thrash PSG completely, without some serious refereeing incidents to their advantage. Meanwhile, I do see it possible that PSG, if they score the first goal early on, would destroy Chelsea, say, by difference of 3 goals.

Madrid also lost Özil and Higuain, and although Dortmund has had problems, nevertheless, it is essentially the same team, few losses and clear fatigue from intensive style of play, but to say they don't stand chances after beating Real last season is huge exaggeration. Even back then they were actually also really really lucky getting away with just defending so many matches. There was always a significant likelihood of getting thrashed if they start conceding. Only once they had to come back from behind, and managed that largely due to Drogba. Now their forwards are shite and Terry and Lampard are getting old. I'm not saying they are worse, their attacking midfield options make them better, more able to dominate games imo, but they are not necessarily stronger, all things considered. as IM says, Drogba is a huge differential.

Hey guys. Any thoughts on my team.

    Boruc
    Zabaleta, Baines, Collins, Chester
    Gerrard, yaya, Nolan,
    Suarez, Sturridge, Carroll.

    Hazard, Ivanovic, Ince' Davies

I've taken a -4 to bring in Nolan for Lallana and Zab for Ward. Not happy about my go but I can't think of a better option worth a -4. I'd rather have Coleman over Baines but that's just something I'll have to live with

Chester and Collins are a bit of a punt to be honest. Chester has delivered for me a few times this year and I like Hulls fixtures. I agree about Collins.....you. Reckon I should start with Ivanovic?

I don't like taking hitsfordefenders unless they offer a BP or Attacking threat

I played my WC for GW30 so maanging to save FT at the moment, so will have 2FT for GW32.

But looking at the fixture list I'm struggling to see where I can take advantage.
    GW33 Gerrard > Silva

    Already got 3 Everton
    City defence from GW33
Mannone and AJ only decent options at Sunderland and already have both.

    So that leaves Crystal Palace
    Noone > Puncheon
    Williamson > Ward

not sure yet. but my team was set up well for the double this week so figured I'd save the WC til later. will wait and assess when is the best time to use it

you can pick a captain for every match of the tournament. Most players will make sure they have at least 1 player in every match for this reason. You can use your transfers for this. It's not like fpl with gws. Think of every single match as a gw

          Kohli(c) then 🙂
I was thinking the whole super 10 was a single gw and ufpl concept of captain on different days made it even more confusing

      I think so. It's all about formation. 4-3-3 = Sturridge, 4-4-2 = Suarez

I think they'll revert to 4-3-3 for these games, try and catch City's goal difference.

Yes. Only because I'm chasing about 50 points. Everyone will have Suarez captain as he is the smart choice. Both should score well, but one of them will score big. I fancy pool to roll out a 433 which will benefit Sturridge

    Hazzy/Yaya/Silva/Gerrard (Colback)
    Suarez/Sturridge/Dzeko

First time I've ever had Dzeko in my team. My only concern with this superb WC team is htf do I get Kun in for Dzeko in GW34, looks like a 3 transfer job (Baines and Gerrard sacrificed) to bring in that £5.4m to accommodate him. I'll have to make sure I have 2 FT for that week as to not take more than a 4 point hit.
