Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Man United vs Aston Villa

Restricted to just ten matches, Gameweek 32 looks set to be an inevitable anti-climax after the recent triple-figure hauls. Nonetheless, with the double Gameweek chatter postponed, at least for a while, it’s almost comforting to return to the old routine – an early kick-off, the evening live match and a couple of Sunday joints to see the Gameweek out.

Today’s events promise to make an inauspicious start as we drop in on Old Trafford to witness a United side beleaguered by the midweek defeat to City and with one eye firmly on the clash with Bayern to come. It’s difficult to know what kind of performance that will produce from David Moyes’ men, although with pressure mounting, it’s hard to imagine that the Scot can afford to put out a side stuck in third gear. Villa will provide a test – Paul Lambert’s outfit are an effective animal on their travels and, in Christian Benteke, have a destructive force that can deal damage to a hesitant United back line.

This is all followed by five three o’clock matches, with Arsenal’s tea-time meeting with City to follow.

You can look to our Twitter feed for the news from the teamsheets, while our Dugout Discussion chatroom is open for those who like to dabble in some real-time banter.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

I was only joking about jumping ship to Chelsea. I'm back to being United for life as long as we win a trophy next season.

If I sell Sturridge I have 11.5. Rooney is currently 11.4. But I don't want him til after blank GW. Obv I only get half Sturridge price rises so his value won't keep track with Wazza's.

Yeah, there's quality and there's quality. I think it's the difference that some ManU fans think Rooney is best player in the world and one of the best all time, and doubting his quality is just to say no he isn't. He is very good, but has very little international merits and should not be mentioned when we talk about best player of the world, let alone best of all time.

He has needed tons of more time to score those goals, though. Henry scored his in quite little time. Only player threatening his all time top minutes/goal ratio is Aguero. Might have passed Henry even, but then again, Aguero hasn't scored half as many goals.

I considered Rooney captain also, but didn't have the stones to take it off Suarez! Still, Suarez could easily match or beat Rooney's score.

Same here, and I could have missed an opportunity here, but Suarez is one of the few players where saying he could score a brace wouldn't raise an eyebrow at all.

Rooney at home to Villa, playing as solo striker. It's weird that, that is a ballsy punt these days.

I'm not sure about double his score, but he did score 22 in the reverse fixture away to Spurs.

Liverpool score even more at home.

That plane message is one of the most fickle things I have ever seen in football, and it is beneath United. Those involved should be ashamed of themselves, and kudos to the majority of fans who booed it.

TBH there's a lot of outrage going around, but what if people wanting Moyes out are the ones that are actually acting in the interests of the club?

ie. a Man Utd with Moyes would suck.

This is fascinating stuff; so at least 270 teams in the top 10k (2.7%) are ghost teams, mad!

I think it means if you are a dullard you may always get in the top 10K but if you don't take some risks you'll never get near winning it. There certainly seems to be more luck than I thought.

Never known what the purpose of RVP was...Rooney playing as Cf is like two years ago when he finished top scorer (was he?..did well anyway)..Not doubting RVP as a player but that's not the same as saying Rooney isn't just as good...playing him at CDM was just a waste of his talent and undeserved. No reason why Rooney couldn't have played there for these past two years and United spent the money on the mids, which they actually did need...Ramble over.
