The Weekend Team News

Wayne Rooney is a doubt for United due to illness and a groin problem. Phil Jagielka is likely to return for Everton’s clash with Man City, though Sylvain Distin is doubtful. Felix Magath has concerns over Steve Sidwell ahead of the crunch clash with Stoke. Newcastle’s Luuk de Jong is available for selection ahead of the Cardiff encounter. Leandro Bacuna returns for Aston Villa, though Joe Bennett remains a doubt. Arsenal rule out an injured trio for the visit of West Brom, whilst Bacary Sagna is a worry due to a knee problem:

Wayne Rooney will be assessed over the next 24 hours as he struggles to overcome a bug and a tight groin problem. Ryan Giggs has revealed “a few of the lads have had a bug”, and is undecided on Robin Van Persie, going on to say “Whether tomorrow is too early we’ll just see how he goes today”.

Roberto Martinez has revealed that Sylvain Distin has returned to training, with a late decision set to be made on the Frenchman’s availability against Man City. Phil Jagielka is in contention to feature, with Martinez “quite confident” the skipper will be in the squad, whilst the Toffees boss has allayed injury fears for Leighton Baines, stressing that the left-back will be fine to feature at the weekend. Steven Pienaar remains sidelined, though Martinez is hopeful the South African will make a return before the end of the season.

Steve Sidwell is Felix Magath’s main injury concern ahead of the crucial meeting with Stoke at the weekend, after the midfielder came off against Hull with a knock last week. Magath has no other injury worries, and could welcome back Kostas Mitroglou to the squad, after confirming the striker had trained all week.

Newcastle will welcome back loan-signing Luuk de Jong into the squad to face Cardiff this weekend, with the forward having recovered from an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Alan Pardew revealed that Hatem Ben Arfa was not involved in training with the main group, casting doubt over the attacker’s game time as the season draws to a close.

Leandro Bacuna has recovered from the virus that forced him off at half-time against Swansea last week, and is available for selection ahead of Villa’s clash with Hull. Joe Bennett though, remains a doubt with an ankle injury.

Arsenal are expected to have the same squad from the win over Newcastle when they take on West Brom at the weekend, with Arsene Wenger ruling out out Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere. Although the left-back has returned to training, his manager admits he will be “a bit short” for Sunday, whilst no time-scale has been put on the returns of Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Bacary Sagna is rated as 50-50 after picking up a knee problem.

Chelsea midfielder Oscar has admitted that his absence on the pitch in recent weeks is down to a hip injury. The Brazilian is wary of exacerbating the injury and risk missing the World Cup, though hopes to feature in the final game of the season against Cardiff.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

I think he is the one most at risk but I think he will start both games on account of the fact he has not played a lot of games this season. However, it is risky.

I'd say so, he's the most versatile and i'm not sure if Vidic/Ferdy's legs can manage 2 games in the space of 5 days.

Have really loved owning Koscielny and Cahill this season. Both have flew under the radar for a lot of players as they don't usually have an explosive week but they do consistently return points and produce good bps.

I don't think I've owned Cahill but I agree on Koscielny. Had him for that entire period Arsenal were top, dropped him when they fell in the table, now got him back for the last stretch.

I don't think it's relevant at all if he knows him on a personal level. He knows who he is and knows he's a Chelsea player. An acknowledgement should have been the least he was given in my opinion.

Of course it's outrage! The video is stirring it up, and it's worked. Courtois signed for Chelsea in 2011 -- while Mourinho was Real Madrid manager. He doesn't know him just because he's a Chelsea player on loan. I remember Neville doing the same thing or worse to Schmeichel in the tunnel, and nothing was made of that. It's your prerogative whether you want to hate him or not, that isn't my point. Granville made a great observation, and exhibited critical thinking.

That Neville Schmeichel thing was a completely different scenario. Like Marr said below it prob was a tactical thing. It's just a shitty way of doing it. Not acknowledgeing one of your own young players in a bid to upset him is shitty. He's manager now. He's his player now. Doesn't matter if they haven't gone to Harrods for Afternoon Tea or not.

Different scenario? They were friends, played together for the best part of a decade and Neville ignored him in the tunnel. Not different at all, it's worse as they know each other! That night Courtois isn't a Chelsea player. He's the opposition. Even though he's taking time out in the video to high five all of the kids and pay them attention, people pick on him apparently ignoring a player that they think he knows. This is a tabloid storm in a teacup. Probably because they think they are going to lose Cortois to Chelsea next season.

That's a really cheap shot. Just because I'm a Chelsea fan doesn't mean that my point doesn't stand. If you ask a lot of people in here, I've criticised Chelsea plenty of times. I'd rather question the media motive, think for myself and not go with the herd mentality. Granville isn't a Chelsea fan and he came up with the same conclusion.

Would really appreciate some help with this one. Team is:

    Mannone (Marshall)
    Azpi Chester Vlaar (Coleman Ward)
    Mata Eriksen Ramsey Januzaj (Puncheon)
    Rooney Aguero Suarez
    1 FT. 3.6m.

    Considering this for -8:
Coleman, Januzaj, Rooney - Evra, Yaya, Dzeko

Risky I know but chasing 16 point leader who has Yaya and a very similar team otherwise.

Just seen the Rooney news... Already done Gerrard -> Mata, and was planning:

    Baines+Ramsey -> Kos+Yaya (-8)

    Should I switch to:

    Ramsey/Eriksen/Noone + Rooney -> Yaya + Wickham?

While I can afford Noone out, it would be a tough benching decision, and already have 3 city so can't bring in Dzeko..

    Suarez, Agüero, Rooney

Not entirely happy with benching Eriksen, but I can't see who else to bench? I suppose Sagna won't get any minutes if he's injured, but it was a coin flip on who to play of him and Azpi anyway.

a united defender is not essential, nobody really knows who's going to play twice. And Mata is not widely owned enough to be essential.

    Soooooooo.........................

Forgetting Rooney, would you captain (A) Mata or (B) Aguero (all my rivals have both)

I'm on Mata right now as Citeh have a tricky trip to Everton and play under more pressure.

    Afternoon guys,

    Haven't made any transfers yet.

Originally planned Boruc, Coleman, Gerrard -> DDG, Evra, Yaya for -8.

Should I make changes to have Rooney in there instead (probably instead of the Evra switch)?

    My team:

    Harper (K Davis)

    Baines - Ferdinand - Demi - Flannagan

    Yaya - Eriksen - Mata

    Lukaku - Rooney - Suarez

    Subs: Puncheon - Stones - S Davis

Aguero needs to come in but in depends on Rooney I guess...

    So
    A) Lukaku and Baines > Aguero and Brown
    b) Suarez > Aguero
    c) Rooney and Lukaku > Aguero and Wickham/Welbeck
    D) Rooney and Baines > Aguero and Evra/Zaba

Hi everyone ! Really need advice please. Best move for this week :

    A) Keep Rooney (i actually think that he will miss sunderland game) and do Evans for Alonso.

I will play Eriksen with Punch 1st sub

    B) Rooney and Evans for Giroud/Bony and Zaba/Evra (for a -4)

    C) Rooney, Evans and Puncheon for Wickham, Evra and Yaya (for a -8) ?

    Eriksen 1st sub

    Cheers !

Toying with something similar to C myself. I also get the feeling that Rooney will play 1 game at best, but it's a make or break move.

For B would you not prefer Dzeko to Giroud/Bony?

I'm 29 points behind my ML leader. We have almost the exact same team:

    Mata Yaya Ramsey Nasri

    Rooney Suarez Aguero

I'm thinking of taking a 8 point hit to bring RVP in for Suarez. It will involve downgrading a defender.

    Is this mental?

That time of the week again! I’m sitting at 2,400 in the world (best ever for me). Got the following with -4:

    Manone
    Demichelis Smalling Cahill (Ward Coleman)
    Yaya Mata Erikson Mutch (Puncheon)
    Suarez Aguero© Rooney

    Anything else needed:

Coleman > ? perhaps (-4)…but Cahill could easily get a cleanie v NOR.

Captain? Rooney news has put me to Aguero.

    Thanks very much
