The Weekend Team News

Wayne Rooney is a doubt for United due to illness and a groin problem. Phil Jagielka is likely to return for Everton’s clash with Man City, though Sylvain Distin is doubtful. Felix Magath has concerns over Steve Sidwell ahead of the crunch clash with Stoke. Newcastle’s Luuk de Jong is available for selection ahead of the Cardiff encounter. Leandro Bacuna returns for Aston Villa, though Joe Bennett remains a doubt. Arsenal rule out an injured trio for the visit of West Brom, whilst Bacary Sagna is a worry due to a knee problem:

Wayne Rooney will be assessed over the next 24 hours as he struggles to overcome a bug and a tight groin problem. Ryan Giggs has revealed “a few of the lads have had a bug”, and is undecided on Robin Van Persie, going on to say “Whether tomorrow is too early we’ll just see how he goes today”.

Roberto Martinez has revealed that Sylvain Distin has returned to training, with a late decision set to be made on the Frenchman’s availability against Man City. Phil Jagielka is in contention to feature, with Martinez “quite confident” the skipper will be in the squad, whilst the Toffees boss has allayed injury fears for Leighton Baines, stressing that the left-back will be fine to feature at the weekend. Steven Pienaar remains sidelined, though Martinez is hopeful the South African will make a return before the end of the season.

Steve Sidwell is Felix Magath’s main injury concern ahead of the crucial meeting with Stoke at the weekend, after the midfielder came off against Hull with a knock last week. Magath has no other injury worries, and could welcome back Kostas Mitroglou to the squad, after confirming the striker had trained all week.

Newcastle will welcome back loan-signing Luuk de Jong into the squad to face Cardiff this weekend, with the forward having recovered from an ankle injury. Meanwhile, Alan Pardew revealed that Hatem Ben Arfa was not involved in training with the main group, casting doubt over the attacker’s game time as the season draws to a close.

Leandro Bacuna has recovered from the virus that forced him off at half-time against Swansea last week, and is available for selection ahead of Villa’s clash with Hull. Joe Bennett though, remains a doubt with an ankle injury.

Arsenal are expected to have the same squad from the win over Newcastle when they take on West Brom at the weekend, with Arsene Wenger ruling out out Kieran Gibbs, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere. Although the left-back has returned to training, his manager admits he will be “a bit short” for Sunday, whilst no time-scale has been put on the returns of Wilshere and Oxlade-Chamberlain. Bacary Sagna is rated as 50-50 after picking up a knee problem.

Chelsea midfielder Oscar has admitted that his absence on the pitch in recent weeks is down to a hip injury. The Brazilian is wary of exacerbating the injury and risk missing the World Cup, though hopes to feature in the final game of the season against Cardiff.

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

    Mannone
    Zabaleta // Kompany // Koscielny // Ward
    Y.Toure // Ramsey // A.Johnson
    Rooney // Giroud // Suarez

Nearly there with my transfer planning. Missing one left, what's best:

    1. Baines -> Kos
    2. Rooney -> 9.5M (non city)

Some people are saying hull at home is still a good game, but my feeling is that if in any doubt, he'll be benched to be on the safe side, and bbc already reporting him out of the first game.
On the other hand, no striker options appeal much (maybe wickham?) and if I keep Baines, I'm stuck with:
    Baines, Coleman, Vlaar, Chester, Cahill

    Ignoring how I ended up with this midfield, am I nuts to be going with 5 man defence (and even more so given Rooney news?);

    Hart (Adrian)
    Evra, Chester, Baker, Ivanovic, Skrtel
Ramsey, Eriksen (Lallana, Barkley, Johnson (villa))
    Rooney, Aguero, Suarez

Was considering Lallana -> Nasri (4pt hit). Is it worth it and who to drop from defence?

With all the fitness doubt over the top DGW strikers, taking Suarez out for someone likely to get one of two games, seems even more bonkers than it did before.

Connor Wickham may look a good option, but I think his surprise element is now lost and managers will be flagging him up as one to keep tight to.
So all-in-all, I'll stick with Suarez and his difficult game rather than another 4pt hit.

    Are you sticking or twisting?

A DGW over Vlaar/Bardsley would cover half their extra -4 just by playing, and one clean sheet from two would make a two point profit, plus would potentially set you up better for the final week. Obvious answer is to go city - don't know if you can afford that.

Don't worry about no mata, too much of a risk to bring in for a hit with a returning RVP - mata will offer big FA if he's played out wide.

As far as Waz goes, just wait until the final minute. If he's out for both games then anyone who replaces him and plays would make up the -4, but if hes gonna feature twice/start once then hold him.

Anyone willing to help me fight a seemingly lost cause? Losing my mini-league by 57 points at the moment. Lots of money at stake too

    My team:

    Mannone
    Cahill Demichelis Evra Coleman John
    Ramsey Eriksen Mata Lallana Januzaj
    Agüero Suarez Giroud
    (1 FT; 0,3 ITB)

    Rival:

    Hart
    Azpilicueta Baines Flanagan Baker Chambers
    Ramsey Eriksen Mata Carrick Oviedo
    Agüero Suarez Rooney

He told me that he will switch Baines to a City defender this week. Whether the Rooney news will change that or not, I don't know.

Is there ANYTHING you think that I could do to give me any sort of chance to fight this back?

I think the answer in a cause like this is you have to go for differentials.

As things stand you effectively have 5 completely useless players probably 6.

So imo your only choice is to bring in risky but potentially explosive players who your rival does not have.

That means Lallana to Yaya (C) funded by downgrading Coleman to maybe Alonso?

      Get Yaya!

      Can you afford Lallana/Giroud --> Wickham/Yaya?

Anyone has a clue what will the Utd defense look like in both of the games?

    SAFC game
    Jones Vidic Ferdinand Evra

    Hull game
    Rafael Vidic Smalling Butner?

    Just guessing. Anyone?

Your post reminds me that of my three United players:

      Evra-Mata-Rooney

Not a single one is nailed on to start both matches.
I'm seriously thinking of swapping one for an Arsenal, Chelsea or Liverpool player.

I don't think Giggs will mess around with Smalling and Buttner. He is taking this 'audition' seriously. Obviously Rooney is a risk but will play when fit and Mata should start both given the Norwich game.

Repost because onluy one answer (thanks Nibbsy)

Really need advice please. Best move for this week :

    A) Keep Rooney (i actually think that he will miss sunderland game) and do Evans for Alonso.

I will play Eriksen with Punch 1st sub

    B) Rooney and Evans for Giroud/Bony and Zaba/Evra (for a -4)

    C) Rooney, Evans and Puncheon for Wickham, Evra and Yaya (for a -8) ?

    Eriksen 1st sub

    Cheers !

If doing B I'd definitely say go for the Bony/Zab combination, who knows what Giggs will put out in the back four.

Basically though wait until 11.29, get as much info as possible before deciding. Unless he's definitely out I probably wouldn't make any moves - if he only had one game this week I'd still want him in my team, so missing half a DGW isn't fatal.

I am going with Mata. He's their best goal scoring threat if both rooney rvp dont play

True, I am trailing my rival by 17 points and he has both Rooney and Mata (in which I have too)

Differentials are only YYT and Aguero (He has: Dzeko and Nasri)

Should I captain a MCity player?

Risky. They have a lot of attacking threats esp. now that we are hearing Silva is coming back

Would you select a hull defender over Baines or Azpi?

The DW thing is really pulling me towards the hull player. Plus, norwich will be fighting for their lives
