Suarez Hit With Four-Month Ban

FIFA have this afternoon rocked the football world after delivering a verdict on Luis Suarez’ biting incident with Giorgio Chiellini during Uruguay’s win over Italy.

The Footballing body has confirmed that Suarez is not only suspended for nine matches, he is also “banned for four months from any football-related activity”.

In an official statement earlier this afternoon, FIFA also revealed Suarez is unable to even enter a football stadium during the period of the ban and, in a scathing assessment, went on to say:

“Such behaviour cannot be tolerated on any football pitch, and in particular not at a FIFA World Cup when the eyes of millions of people are on the stars on the field. The Disciplinary Committee took into account all the factors of the case and the degree of Mr Suárez’s guilt in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Code. The decision comes into force as soon it is communicated.”

It’s also been confirmed that Suarez can appeal the decision, though bearing in mind the Chiellini clash was the third time he has sank his teeth into an opponent, it seems unlikely to be successful.

While many had assumed any potential ban would only apply to internationals, FIFA’s decision to include domestic games is a massive blow to Liverpool for the season ahead. Essentially, the Uruguayan will miss the first 10 Gameweeks of 2014/15 before returning to action away to Newcastle on November 1.

Considering the four fixtures prior to the St James’ Park see the Reds entertain Everton, West Brom and Hull, in addition to a trip to QPR, Suarez’ suspension has massive repercussions for Fantasy managers, too. After serving up 30 goals and 25 assists in 2013/14, he will no doubt be afforded the highest price tag of any player right across the Fantasy games but, just like last term, we’ll need to make do without his services after yet another biting incident.

In a brief official statement, the Merseysiders would only say:

“Liverpool Football Club will wait until we have seen and had time to review the FIFA Disciplinary Committee report before making any further comment.”

His absence is likely to make our initial decisions a little easier for the upcoming campaign. Many Fantasy managers were determined to fit both Suarez and Robin Van Persie into their starting squads in light of United’s kind start – acquiring both would take up a considerable chunk of our budgets but FIFA’s stance has at least taken that tricky decision out of our hands.

Any chance I could get some opinions on these transfers for The Sun game..? Mini League is worth over £500 to the winner..

    Current team

    Lloris
    Rojo - Luiz - RRod - Alba
Muller - Honda - De Bruyne
    Messi - Neymar - Benzema

Transfers.. RRod, Alba, Honda, De Bruyne -> Blind, Gamboa, Robben, Cuadardo

Get 4 more transfers before the quarter finals so should still be covered for players that get put out?

Your team is very similar to mine.

I feel like Robben is an absolute must buy, plus I need to get rid of Alba. This helps facilitate it by downgrading Alba to a 2.5 or less and getting rid of KDB to get Robben.

I like the look of your transfers apart from Blind. I'd look elsewhere imo.

Liverpool should really take action against FIFA. First of all, it's not right for them to lose a player for 4 months because of something that happened with the national team. And secondly, what about Chellini? He hit Suarez with an elbow, he caused a penalty that was not assigned and AS USUAL, he simulated three times, pretended to be hit by a nudge when he's always the one acting like a pig and hitting everybody. He shouldn't even be allowed to enter a stadium.

No i just have a brain that actually works, unlike you. As someone who has lived in Italy for 24 years, i know VERY well how football works in Italy. Chiellini is a pig who gets away with ANYTHING. Everybody knows that and yet he never gets punished...now Suarez has been punished but Chiellini didn't. You don't have anything to counteract my point, which makes my point even stronger.

cheillini's offenses are nowhere near as bad, the physical nature of his play & what you see in many countries is an accepted part of the game whether you think it's right or not, biting simply isn't, that's the reality & you can whine all you want about what's fair or not but it doesn't change the fact that saurez is a multiple offender of biting that in football is frowned upon more than any other offense,

Argentina in a spot of bother if Aguero is indeed out of the tournament. Both him and Higuain looked off-colour. Don't think Lavezzi/Palacio good enough to start up top.

Clarin, the leading Argentinian news outlet, have confirmed the sad news on Thursday that Argentina’s Sergio Aguero has been forced out of the World Cup with a muscle problem.

The Man City forward picked up the injury in Wednesday’s 3-2 win over Nigeria.

Kun’s muscle problem has been labelled a grade 1 tear on the back of his left thigh.

Palacio and Lavezzi can both play on the wings, allowing Messi the central role. Could work out for them in the end.

The FIFA discplinary committee in their report stated:

    · The player Luis Suárez is banned from taking part in any kind of football-related activity (administrative, sports or any other) for a period of four (4) months in accordance with art. 22 of the FDC.

Unless I am mistaken administrative includes transfers. Therefore liverpool will not be able to sell this summer.

Need some inspired picks for Goalscorer Challenge.

    Currently on:

    Klose
    Ronaldo

    Mirallas
    Samedov

Thinking of sticking with Klose to score off the bench, although Ozil and the Americans other than Dempsey are the alternatives. Also reckon Ghana will beat Portugal.
