World Cup 2014 – Dugout Discussion – Matchday 7, Day 2

A month of thrilling football culminates this evening as Germany and Argentina take to the pitch in the 2014 World Cup Final. Many Fantasy mini-leagues are on the line tonight as Joachim Low’s free-scoring side square up to one of the most resilient backlines in the tournament so far:

Germany: Neuer; Lahm, Boateng, Hummels, Howedes; Khedira, Schweinsteiger; Muller, Kroos, Ozil; Klose

Argentina: Romero; Zabaleta, Garay, Demichelis, Rojo; Biglia, Mascherano; Perez, Messi, Lavezzi; Higuain

Low makes one late change to the XI that started the 7-1 rout of Brazil, with Christoph Kramer replacing Sami Khedira in central midfield. Mats Hummels has recovered from the knee problem that forced him off at the break last time around, then, while Miroslav Klose leads the line for the third successive match. Thomas Muller carries the hopes of many Fantasy managers into this one after serving up five goals and a trio of assists so far, whilst Toni Kroos’ double against the Brazilians has earned him plenty of new owners across the Fantasy games. Elsewhere in attack, Klose is gunning for his third of the campaign after breaking the World Cup Finals scoring record last week, though Low also has the option of Andre Schurrle off the bench, with the Chelsea man notching three times already.

Alejandro Sabella’s side is also unaltered from the semi-finals. Martin Demichelis gets the nod ahead of Federico Fernandez in the heart of defence once again, while Enzo Perez and Ezequiel Lavezzi are handed another start due to injury concerns over Angel di Maria and Sergio Aguero – the latter is likely to appear off the bench again, though. The South Americans have delivered four clean sheets in their last five matches and Sabella’s defence has been subject to heavy Fantasy investment as the returns dry up for Lionel Messi. It’s now three games without a goal for the Barcelona man now, who has looked lethargic for his country over the knockout matches – when it matters most of all, can he deliver?

Just coming back to the point when FPL opens, didn't some of you receive a mail where they said 'We will announce it shortly'? If that is the case, surely we should wait for the announcement first than the game itself?

If they gave out a time and date for the opening the site would simply crash.

When do they start kicking us out and making the site a mad advertisement page? They're the signs of when you're really close.

Shortly could mean any time this week.

They won't announce it in advance, but they may possibly notify us by email the day after it has opened.

Anyone else thinks that Arsenal should pay Remy 80k per week, and sign him up?
Can't really blame him, its his last chance of a big contract. 😉

What is it about FPL that you're most looking forward to? Why do we miss it so much?

I am looking forward to spending entire train journeys analysing fixtures, the frustration of being just 1M short of my perfect team, arguing with friends over whether Sessegon will come good or not, finding the next budget wonder defender.

      SO MUCH!

    Just had an email from Fantasy Premier League;

    'Hi,

A specific date for the start of next seasons game has yet to be confirmed, but it is likely to be early next week. We will announce on the website when players are able to pick their new teams for the coming season. Hope this helps.

    Yours,
    Fantasy Football Support'

Emailed them this morning and literally just got this reply so it looks like another week.

I genuinely think the first bandwagon has already come and gone before the prices have even come out, a few weeks ago everyone and their mother was on RVP (C) GW1 with LVG turning him into a temporary god... I'm already thinking about shipping him out, and I don't even have a team yet.

I think the first bandwagon of the year will come after Leicester win to nil against Everton opening day. Maybe Nugent, but more likely someone like Knockaert or De Laet.

There will be bandwagons on FFS before then, mainly based on pre-season form, new signings, favourable early fixtures and tips from FFS posters.

Later, there will also be casuals' bandwagons for anyone who scores on the opening day.
