The Rate My Team Discussion

With so many of you seeking advice on their teams before August 16, we thought it would prudent to run a daily community article to provide a dedicated focus for “Rate My Team” (RMT) requests.

Each day ahead of the new season, we’ll select one of the Fantasy Football Scout team and post up their own RMT request to open up discussion and encourage others to post their own. We’ll turn the comments over to you to provide a useful place for those seeking advice and highlight some of the key decisions under deliberation.

Please nudge those posting RMTs in other articles to visit this daily RMT article. Also, when posting requests, please remember to be courteous to those who take the time to help out. Equally, if you’re an experienced Fantasy manager with some views on initial line-ups, take time out to dip in and contribute – the Fantasy Football Scout team will be doing their upmost to offer their feedback as the discussion develops throughout the day.

Next up is Demi who is looking for feedback on this team:

De Gea/Hamer

Mariappa, Wisdom, Davies, Debuchy, Terry

Mata, Sigurdsson, Eriksen, Hazard, Albrighton

Diego Costa, Rooney, Diouf

Demi says he is pretty set on having David De Gea and a non-playing keeper, and it’s one of the few positions that have remained constant in all his drafts. Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Christian Eriksen and Eden Hazard have all featured strongly in most of his thoughts too, but, apparently, he could be persuaded to start the season with Cesc Fabregas and use the extra cash to upgrade his defence. Speaking of which, John Terry is the one certainty in Demi’s rearguard: the others are more doubtful. Demi is currently undecided as to whether to keep an Arsenal defender in his side, with Debuchy his current preferred selection.

Up front, Wayne Rooney is locked in, but Demi has been really struggling for inspiration on the other two forward spots. Diego Costa seems as good as any option for the first three or four games; he’s not keen on Olivier Giroud or Edin Dzeko with their respective fixtures. Would he be better off downgrading Costa and instead focusing on solidifying his defence?

Feel free to get stuck in with your feedback. We look forward to scanning your RMTs throughout the day on this article.

      Pretty horrible at the moment.

      Ok keepers.
Baines has bad fixtures and you don't want to force yourself into transfers early so I'd downgrade him to a United defender. Bruce isn't nailed on and Trippier has bad fixtures so I recommend getting two 4.5m defenders with good fixtures to replace them. Upgrade midfield with the extra money.
      The forwards are fine.

look my thinking is he was arguably the best, if not one of the best, left back(s) in the world last season and played for a club that won its domestic league and was a CL runner-up. you don't spend big money on someone like that, and he doesn't leave his club, just to rotate with a right-footed right back who happened to deputize last season (albeit did very well in the role)

Thinking Yaya will top the midfielders this year and Man City scored the most goals last year why not have him from start to finish.Easier to start with then to get when Citys fixtures get better.

      Not too bad actually

      - Pieters (how sure are you that he will start?)
      - Luis (probably worth the risk but there are 5 Chelsea defenders competing for 4 spots)
      - Wisdom (Gamboa recently signed and will provide competition)
      - El Ahmadi (Isn't really a fantasy prospect, either pure bench fodder or shouldn't be there)
      - Bojan (If you plan to start him every game El Ahmadi is ok, Otherwise its a risk having both)
      - Jovetic (Probably worth the risk but personally I think Dzeko is more nailed on)

I don't trust Bojan enough to back that grouping. I also believe Ramsey will match Sanchez early on. Mata is probably better than Eriksen but not by much I wouldn't think. Personally I think Lamela could be a better bet than Eriksen this season.

My reason for getting in Bojan was his performance in the pre-season friendlies. Mata has some good opening fixtures and in the absence of RVP I expect Rooney + Mata to get most of the points.

If Sanchez plays as a striker then he will get a lot of goals given the fantastic supply of assists from the Arsenal midfield. Also Sanchez will be an out of position player

Davies - Likely to be rotated with Rose
Wisdom - Faces competition from Gamboa
Bojan/Davis - Not sure if its a good idea to have both unless you plan to rotate them. Generally speaking I think its better to have 1 budget attacker.

If you want a more balanced team consider downgrading one of your expensive mids to say Siggy and then upgrading one of Davis or Bojan

Please share Your Views on this...

    Krul / Foster
    Huth / Ward / NTaylor / Rosenior / Duff
    Mata / Erikson / Sanchez / Siggy / 4.5
    Rooney / Costa / Lukaku

I want to ask if my defence is weak?
And why no love for Lukaku? Proven player and nailed on for one of the top 5 contender team.

    Should I do
    1. Ward, Erikson, Lukaku
    2. Luis, Erikson, Pelle
    3. Ward, Silva, Pelle?

      A) Your defence isn't too bad I don't think. You could upgrade one of them but its not overly necessary
      B) Lukaku has rough fixtures early on so most are avoiding Everton altogether. However Lukaku might still be worthwhile, he often scores points against tough opposition.

      I'd go with 3

Pretty good team actually, can't see many faults.

Team does contain a couple of risks but so long as there aren't too many its fine. I'd say you've cracked it.

are you just never intending to play Bojan? with that team you may as well get the extra .5m by putting in Naismith or Bent or something (I prefer the former) and playing 352 and spending it in defense or by getting rotating keeps

      also lose Debuchy imo..

    Any suggestions on my team?

    Team 1

      A few problems

Jaaskelainen - Lost his first team spot to Adrian last season, probably won't start
      Sagna - Competing with Zabaletta
Bruce - Not nailed on, will often see him on the bench
Cameron - Competing with Bardsley, might even be sold on
      Stones - Competing with Distan
      McShane - Won't even start
Herrera - Plays deep so is unlikely to get many attacking points
Remy - Is in the process of being sold, who knows where he will end up, could take time

Sagna, Bruce, Stones & McShane are all players that wouldn't be overly surprising if they didn't make the starting lineup for their teams. You need more job security in defence because you need to play atleast 3 of them.
Probably worth downgrading Herrera to put some more cash in your defence

thanks for the comments. whats a better defensive lineup, and cheap goalkeeper rotation? I heard Sagna will start for Zabelta in the beginning of the season.

What about an alternative to Herrera?

      A) But then he's the popular pick, I think C) and B) could be nice differentials.

Thats actually quite a decent team. There are a few risky players in there but so long as there aren't too many its ok.

Perhaps consider replacing Bruce, he's a long way from being nailed on to start. Personally I'm not a big fan of Bojan just yet, needs to prove himself in the premier league but at least he has good fixtures.

About Bojan its not just fixtures its price itself that is tempting, i could always downgrade Baines to Jones, then replace De Gea with Howard and i got extra 1,5m and that 1,5m is tempting for swaping Ramsay to Sanchez. What do you think with is better Ramsey + Baines or Jones + Sanchez ?

This lineup is totally defendable, great job. Things to be wary of is that Fabregas may play in a deeper position early on with the injury to Ramires (Willian or Oscar to play behind Costa)

Any thoughts on this lot? Thank you

    Krul - Foster
Luis - Evans - Huth - Neil Taylor - Hutton
    Alexis - Mata - Eriksen - Arnautovic - Albrighton
    Rooney - Costa - Jelavic

I could do Arnautovic + Jelavic to Tadic + Bojan

Not too shabby. A few thoughts outlined below.

Luis - Slight risk of rotation
Huth - Will likely see some rotation
Hutton - Is definitely not nailed on, rotation at best.

Attack looks good though, not overly convince by Jelavic or Bojan myself but if you are then thats fine.
