The ScoutCast – Episode 133 – Beginnings

A new beginning. On the eve of a new campaign, two grumpy middle-aged has-beens gather in a studio to recall the summer’s feast of football and look ahead to another Fantasy season, full of hope.

There’s no frills. No live video cast. No special guests. Just Granville and I, stripped back and almost unplugged.

Don’t let that put you off, though. Even with our limited powers we at least attempt to cut through the issues currently rattling around in the minds of Fantasy managers.

We assess the Old Trafford revolution, the world without Suarez and the merits of the three-man strike force. We slice through the current transfer trends and weigh up matters such as the Sigurdsson/Bojan rotation, Fagregas vs Hazard and the Chelsea back four conundrum. We also manage to warm up with a nice little argument about the Alexis Sanchez bandwagon – the traditional pre-season barney.

Be there at the birth via this link, or witness the new dawn via the handy player below.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Planned a defence of -> 5.0 -- 5.0 -- 5.0 -- 4.5 -- 4.0

    Ward - Clyne - Caulker - Chester - Hutton

    Do I just keep Ward? 🙁

    I could also double up on Saints defence with Bertrand, or downgrade to a 4.5, or try my hand with Kaboul as a temporary option...

      Double up of Saints could work incredibly well given their good fixtures.

    Ramsey or Giroud? I'm sure most will go Ramsey because of last year, but surely Giroud wont be as wasteful as last year will he? or do you think Sanchez will play up top?

      great attacking player, saints will likely be more open this year so will concede more but he'll also get forward more. plus new BPs favour attacking full backs.

      Plus, er, those first 12 fixtures.

      Not defensively but he'll bring in nice attacking points for that money. Kore man could defend a bit though so they might be decent at the back.

    can't decide which 4.5's to get (need 3). might get Chambers as one of them and then have a week or two to evaluate before swapping him out

    reasonable or silly?

    Currently have Young as my 5th mid, is he worth downgrading to allow other upgrades?

    A) Downgrade to Davis = Upgrade Luis -> Cahill/Terry

    B) Downgrade to Davis = Upgrade Jovetic -> Dzeko

    C) Downgrade to Marney = Upgrade both ^

    Thanks in advance, because you WILL vote!

    Gotta admit that Davis is a bargain.. almost wish that Siggy was priced a million higher so i could ignore him and save cash with Davis. if only there was a striker upfront worth considerin below 8.5

    Ok but still cant decide between sterling and Erik. Spurs good fixtures and Erik has more pts per min going on last season. But Sterling has confidence of world cup and now with Suarez away her will play a more prominent role.

    ??? please help

    I understand there is the Hazard / Costa conundrum as well as the Chelsea defense minefield... but my latest brainteaser is one of Debuchy.

    Sure he has a record of yellows playing for Newcastle but is this related to him playing in a low class defence being forced to make rash challenges? Surely playing with the Gunners who have a really strong midfield that holds on to the ball better and tactically greater defending this may not be such an issue?

    Or is he generally a bad tackler or ill disciplined?
