A couple of thoughts on United after GW1...
After a disappointing loss to Swansea at home many are down on us and rightly so. However I think there is a lot of misunderstanding/misinformation about. Firstly, our options at the back are quite good, with DDG being the best value of the lot and a hidden gem in Tyler Blackett.
However, we lack any proper holding midfield option to shield them. Obviously, we're in need of new recruits and surely there should be one or two coming in. This should be number one on the list. Until we do however, our defensive options will be touch and go for FPL. I do think that it's worth holding any United defenders at the moment as we could add someone of this ilk at any time and we have a very nice run of fixtures up to GW8.
In attack it's a different story. Wayne Rooney for me is one of the few essential players this season. Even if we're not clicking he should bag points. However it could be touch and go for Mata I think. With RVP returning most likely week after next we will be seriously lacking a quality pace option upfront. Welbeck's linkup play was integral to our good showings in preseason. And only Januzaj was able to replicate his movement, hold and link up play. So once RVP is back LVG could well opt for Roon behind RVP/Welbeck or Januzaj behind RVP/Roon.
If we add a quality option or two in CM I'm confident in our options front to back. But until that area of the pitch is sorted it's basically Rooney or nothing for me. Our soft underbelly is crippling us at the moment.Open ControlsThere is NO chance that Rooney will play behind RVP and Welbeck.

But with RVP set to return in a week or two LVG is more keen on implementing the system than chopping and changing to accommodate players. He has a long term outlook and an iron will.
