The Dugout Discussion – Gameweek 1 – Monday

The final match of Gameweek 1 arrives this evening as promoted Burnley prepare for the visit of Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. The Blues are heavily backed heading into this one, with both Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas currently sitting in more than 20% of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) teams, while up front, summer signing Diego Costa will be looking to grab the goals and strengthen his armband credentials ahead of next week’s home encounter with Leicester:

Certainly, the stage is set for Costa to deliver after a disappointing series of displays from a number of forwards over the weekend, where only one (Saido Berahino) managed double-figure returns.

At the back, Jose Mourinho opts for Thibaut Courtois between the sticks, with Petr Cech relegated to the Blues’ bench. The Chelsea manager keeps faith with the familiar defence that earned 18 shut-outs last term, with new boy Filipe Luis amongst the substitutes.

  Seal the game - kill it. Conserve legs. It helps with fitness towards the end for the season. We did this last season too.

Suggestion:

Substitutions in FPL work as usual, except if a player misses out, but still is in the squad (i.e. sits on th ebench throughout the whole game).

So all people starting Filipe Luis end up getting his 0 points and not an automatic substitution 😉

Quite like these results. Burnley let in two soft goals which will everyone ditching Haz and running to Fab which will make Haz a bit of a differential. And the Costa and Iva bandwagons will only end in tears.

Chelsea's short passing style of play is doomed to death in England. Oscar, Hazard, Schürrle and Fabregas are lack the physicality. Phisicality has always characterized Chelsea football club, without it they seem lost to me. I hope Mourinho will forget this boring tiki-taka. We need hardcore, tough, strong, agressive heavy-metal football
