Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 1

Ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Burnley later this evening, we scour the post-match reports and treatment rooms to assess those players who picked up injuries over the previous weekend. We also cast any eye over the disciplinary action after a trio of players were given their marching orders over the nine matches played out so far.

Injuries

Arsenal
Kieran Gibbs’ pitch time was cut short in Arsenal’s opening day encounter against Crystal Palace, with a hamstring injury forcing him off after 52 minutes. Arsene Wenger has confirmed that the left back is indeed carrying a knock, and also has concerns over the fitness of Laurent Koscielny – both are doubts for the Gunners’ Champions League tie against Besiktas tomorrow night.

Crystal Palace
Eagles right-back Adrian Mariappa missed Saturday evening’s Etihad trip with a slight injury, whilst fellow defender Scott Dann was withdrawn in the latter stages with a thigh problem.

Everton
Roberto Martinez has conceded that the results of a scan on Ross Barkley’s knee ligament injury are indecisive, but fears that the midfielder could be sidelined for up to five months.

Hull City
Liam Rosenior missed his side’s game victory over QPR with a back problem, whilst two Tigers players were forced off with injuries. Alex Bruce picked up a back complaint in the first half, though this is understood to not be too serious, whilst new-boy Robert Snodgrass limped off before half time with suspected knee ligament damage, with manager Steve Bruce bracing himself for the worst.

Leicester City
Midfielder Matty James missed against Everton this weekend after sustaining a knock to his shin in training, whilst fellow Foxes midfielder Danny Drinkwater was withdrawn in the 39th minute with a hamstring problem. The club’s official website has today confirmed that both players will miss next week’s trip to Chelsea.

Man United
Jesse Lingard was forced off due to injury just 24 minutes into his debut for the Red Devils in Saturday’s home loss to Swansea.

Newcastle
Centre-back Yanga Mbiwa was unavailable for yesterday’s match against Man City having sustained a knock in training on Friday.

Sunderland
Santiago Vergini was ruled out of the Black Cats’ opening fixture due to injury. The defender’s absence saw Wes Brown shifted to right-back as cover, with Valentin Roberge partnering John O’Shea in the middle.

West Ham
James Tomkins failed to feature in the weekend home loss to Spurs due to a hamstring complaint, with Sam Allardyce uncertain over whether he will come back into the side for next weekend.

Suspensions

Crystal Palace wide-man Jason Puncheon saw red in the 89th minute against Arsenal on Saturday evening. Two bookable offences ensured that the midfielder will miss next weekend’s home match against West Ham.

Both Tottenham’s Kyle Naughton and West Ham’s James Collins were given their marching orders during the London derby at Upton Park on Saturday afternoon. Naughton was shown a straight red for a deliberate handball in his side’s 1-0 victory, whilst Collins received a second yellow after the break to make it 10 men apiece. The pair will sit out next weekend’s fixtures and return for Gameweek 3.

Meanwhile, Hull City forward Yannick Sagbo will serve the second of a two-match ban next weekend, and Chelsea’s Ramires will make his return on Saturday from a four-match suspension for violent conduct that carried over from the end of last season.

It's time for another addition of...That's good/That's bad:

Filipe Luis doesn't start: That's bad.
But Siggy is my first sub: That's good.
    I'm only playing 3 defenders: That's bad.
But my first def sub is a Hull player: That's good
The Hull sub is Bruce (1pt): That's bad.

        A. Championship has a very high scoring average
        B. Defensive tactics are harder to master but once you get the hold of it breaking defenses becomes difficult for any team
        C. They'll probably gonna park the bus. Hazard, Schurrle and Oscar gonna face difficulties.

    Well my watchlist is currently
    Raheem
    Studge (maybe)
    Kun

    Finances are the struggle.

Wondering whether to go Caulker to Chester which saves me 0.5m, gives ok fixtures and avoids the likely price hike.

Not doing anything til tonight's game ends.

Not really knee jerky as it was Chester or Caulker when I set the team up and that 0.5m is all part of the long term acquisition of future targets.
