Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 6 – Monday

Peter Crouch nets for the second successive Gameweek as Stoke rack up their first Britannia win of the season. Victor Moses is in the points again, though Newcastle’s woes continue as Alan Pardew’s strugglers fail to breach the Potters’ rearguard.

Crouch Hitting his Stride
Peter Crouch’s winner against Newcastle last night was his second strike in as many matches for the Potters. The big striker has also picked up maximum bonus points in both of those fixtures, bringing his sum for the past two Gameweeks up to 21 points in Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – a total unmatched by any other player in any position. Crouch is now another option to be added to the list of in-form budget forwards, alongside the likes of Leonardo Ulloa, Diafra Sakho and Saido Berahino, all of whom offer Wayne Rooney owners an exit strategy which would free up a large chunk of budget to be used elsewhere. Stoke may still be struggling for goals, but Crouch undoubtedly looks the likeliest to play a part in future breakthroughs after having had a hand in three of the Potters’ last four strikes, and with decent fixtures to follow (sun, SWA, sot, WHM), the 5.7-priced forward is certainly one to monitor.

Moses Stakes a Claim
The Chelsea loanee’s flourishing form continued last night, delivering his second assist in consecutive matches. As he settles into his new surrounds, Moses is becoming increasing influential on Mark Hughes’ side – a total of 46 crosses since making his debut in Gameweek 3 is bettered only by Southampton’s Dusan Tadic, and with an in-form Crouch to find in the centre, those stats have a fair chance of translating into returns for the Nigerian, who at 5.5 looks to be a great budget midfield option right now. The injury sustained by Mame Biram Diouf early on in yesterday’s meeting will remove any lingering doubts over Moses’ certainty of starts and could bring Marko Arnautovic back into the starting XI.

Stoke Defence Hold Firm
The Potters’ rearguard registered their first home clean sheet of season in last night’s victory – only their second shut-out of the campaign following their surprise win at the Etihad in Gameweek 3. Hughes opted to leave Erik Pieters out of the starting line-up in favour of Marc Muniesa – the Spaniard earned his first league start of the campaign after bagging a brace in the Capital One Cup last week, and after yesterday’s clean sheet, will be optimistic of holding on to his starting role. At 4.4, Muniesa could be a superb budget option ahead of Stoke’s aforesaid kind schedule, though Mark Wilson at 4.5 still looks the safest bet having played every minute of league action thus far.

Newcastle Attack Continues to Toil
Alan Pardew’s men are still yet to score away from home this season after last night’s 1-0 defeat, and with three of their next five on the road (swa, tot, wba) Fantasy attention is likely to stay well away from the North East for the time being. Papiss Cisse’s appearance as a half-time substitute will offer the Magpies some hope after the forward notched twice against Hull last weekend – the 5.9-priced Senegal international is clearly stepping up his fitness and could well be pushing for a start at Swansea come Saturday, though it’s fair to sat that, given their form, few, if any, Fantasy managers will be prepared to gamble on any of Pardew’s squad.

    Hey Guys,

    Time to wildcard?

    Krul
    Terry - Clyne - Chambers
    Fabregas - Sterling - ADM - Siggy
Costa - Ulloa - Rooney Replacement

    Green - Chester - King - Jones

As you can see, I basically have no bench.

u still have to get that Roonpig replacement with 1 FT or you already got him? How many FT/money ITB left?

1 FT, 0.0m in the bank,

Transfer would obviously be used on replacing Rooney, so I would still have no bench.

Can't see anything would not be fixed with a -4. But still, what team would you get with the WC ?

Even though he's not the greatest pick this week I'd go for Pelle and then upgrade bench.

OR get Aguero and still upgrade your bench.

I really wouldn't WC this team.

I'd hold out for another week when a lot of the fixtures change.
You seem to have a good starting outfield 10 once Rooney is replaced.

      Ok the consensus seems clear.

I will just replace Rooney, or take a -4 and hold fire on the WC for at least another week.

How am I looking for this weekend lads? No money or free transfers to spare.

    Forster

    Duff, Moore, PVA

    Silva, Sterling (VC), Tadic, Siggy

    Aguero (C), Costa, Pelle

    Bench: McCarthy, Ivan, Boyd, Chambers

I'm happy to bench Ivan this week due to the strong fixtures of the other defenders.

G2G but would defo not bench Ivan over Duff, that's crazy. Ulloa and/or Vardy will most prob get at least one past BUR DEF, they lost 4:0 to WBA last time around!

I'm not yet fully convinced about the Stoke defence. Let's see how they do against teams playing strikers, or attacking mids, or wing backs, or a goalie with a long kick.

one team's midfield is going to overrun by the other in the CHE-ARS games. And one striker will be at the end of the dominant midfield.

If Costa looks like starting i cant see past him. Arsenal are terrible against top opposition & have injuries. I cant see him not scoring in this one. Mourinho loves humiliating Wenger and i can see it happening again

    Which is better

    A) Benzema and Goetze
    B) Bale and Welbeck
    C) Robben and 9.5 mid

I have Cr7 and no Bayern players.

Only 1 but extra transfers cost only -2. And points are easy yo come by, you can change players and captains, so hits are not a big problem.

My only concern is that Welbs is yet to deliver. But on paper, Bale and Welbs have the best fixtures.

    Squads numbers and injuries

    Chelsea - 23 players - 2 flagged/injured
    City - 24 players - 2 flagged/injured
    Liverpool - 26 players - 5 flagged/injured
    Arsenal - 31 players - 9 flagged/injured
    Utd - 30 players - 11 flagged/injured

Often notice that clubs with small squads have less injuries. Players in big squads don't play as much regular football and therefore pick up more injuries. Also I think there is something psychological in this - players in large squads don't feel the need to get better quickly to help their team, 'there's plenty others sort of thing' and can hide more. Maybe also less attention to getting players fit again than in smaller squads.

And I don't think it's to do simply with injured players means bring more players into squad, although this is possibly a factor.

Is there not a squad size restriction also? Thought they had to declare 25?

UtD & Arsenal situation in a disgrace atm. Impressed with Chelsea & City.

But most teams have 27-32 player squads with loads of injuries.

City & Chelsea the two teams likely to play the most football this season only 23 & 24

It does ILF but not many in the clubs listed.

My main point is that with 8 or so less players Chelsea & City do pretty well on the injury front.

Is it worth having two big hitting forwards?

Surely, most of us will captain Costa anyway.

Aguero may have nice fixtures but have you seen Welbeck's after GW7.

There are so many good cheaper strikers around.

I like the look of Costa Pelle Welbeck.

There is always Ulloa to add to that too..

I'm on Costa, Pelle, Welbeck at the moment.
I'll be putting Baines into my defence alongside Ivanovic next week.
Aguero is a worry though, it all depends on whether Costa can continue to perform.

      Welbeck to Pele
      Heaton to ...anybody
One of your Gks needs to be Mannone, Bego, Forster imo
Baines - no cs. Leave for now.
Get Naylor and Wilson in defence. Keep Azpi.

      Rest are good.

everton are up against leaky utd defence and after that game they have pretty decent fixtures.

Lukaku certainly splits opinions on here. I think many got burned by him last year when they missed his big scores several times.
If he's playing right and getting the service he still has the potential to rip defences apart.

by the way he plays it seems he'll start firing very soon and with those fixtures it looks like viable option.

    Naylor, Moreno, Chambers, Wisdom, Moore

Finally a green arrow in UFPL but barely making a dent. The format feels a bit weird, to be honest, it doesn't feel like you can make such a big change / improvement as you are stuck with the same squad...
