Monitor – Gylfi Sigurdsson

A pair of assists and two bonus points in Swansea’s home draw with Newcastle elevated Gylfi Sigurdsson to the top of the midfield standings in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game at the end of Gameweek 7. With 46 points accrued, the Icelandic international is second only to Diego Costa overall and, having started the season at just 6.0, he’s now climbed in cost to 6.8 – his rise in price of 0.8 is greater than any other player so far.

Averaging 6.6 points per appearance under Garry Monk, Sigurdsson has been snapped up by over 44% of FPL managers as he seamlessly settles back into life at the Liberty. Indeed, Sigurdsson’s Fantasy exploits have so far exceeded his displays from 2011/2, where, under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers, he served up seven goals, five assists and 11 bonus points in 18 appearances – averaging 5.7 points per match.

As the transfers in continue to pick up pace over the international break, we compare his displays over the two periods to assess his impact since returning to Wales.

The refereeing was very odd tonight.
Can anyone explain why the keeper was penalised for stopping the ball, picking it up and the throwing to a player. The England game by the way.

Watched it in patches and watching highlights now. The disallowed goal for Lallana was completely bizarre.

A keeper can't catch the ball, release the ball onto the floor, then pick it back up. If he does it's an indirect freekick. As it happens he parried the ball then picked it up which is ok. The ref must have thought he'd done the former. The ref was wrong.

If ADM stays fit, and United get a DM [Strootman or use Carrick/Fellaini] in the Jan window, that could lead to a 4-3-3 with ADM playing further upfront with less defensive duties--and him getting more points.

Silva/Cesc ➡ Hazard probably your best route to get Hazard in. I'm not too keen on Hazard at the moment but out of Cesc & Silva, I'd probably show Silva the door.

        • 10 Years

thinking hazard has been improving over last 2 games.. and at 9.9 is good value... fab seems to be playing deeper alright.

also considering mane of southampton... looks decent and no-one really has him yet.

I think you've got a pretty solid midfield. Cesc>Hazard works if you doubt he'll continue to bring home points [was a Hazard owner for 3gameweeks, wished I got Cesc instead all that time and ended up getting Chadli]--then go for Hazard...But not for a hit.

Doing that would raise 1M. Any thoughts on who I would upgrade Ulloa to that costs 6.8M or less that's better? Also does everyone else here agree with having the cheapest 5th midfielder possible? What if one of other front 7 is rested or injured at the last minute...Isn't it better to have a Downing type player come off the bench than a cheap defender?

You will have 5.5 million sitting on the bench for no reason. Plus when WHU have a good game you ll have a headache who to bench. Up to 6.8 i would go for Cisse or Sakho for now.

      They mean team value.

Selling value is always lower and a truer reflection of what you have to spend but not completely definitive either as you aren't likely to sell your big risers either.

      1. The Fantastic Mr Fox
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 6 months ago

Thanks. but selling value comes into play when you're doing a WC and you accidentally transfer out one of your consistent risers, only to bring him back later. I've wondered if its a good idea to sell and bring back one of the steady climbers like siggy cos its a way of converting loose cash itb, to solid player selling value. doesnt make much of a difference though

That's exactly what I mean though. The big money made on say Diego Costa is irrelevant because you won't be able to afford to buy him back if you sell or in your case accidentally sell.

Look @ Data View on Transfers page in FPL for breakdown of purchase, selling and current price.

Baines, Moore, N. Taylor, Clyne, Wisdom

        ADM, Sterling, Tadic, Downing, Boyd

        Costa, Aguero, Welbeck

Have 2 FTs i have to make a transfer. I believe this is the moment to drop Costa and upgrade midfield. If i downgrade Costa and upgrade Tadic and Downing to Hazard and Cazorla/ Walcott its risky but i may get more points. On the other hand Costa cant stop scoring so i am hesitating atm.

Like @TB & @Somalion both said...dropping Costa is close to madness. Slight past it I'd argue.

if you MUST make a transfer then find a replacement for Moore or Boyd.

I was thinking of Tomkins, Janmaat at 5.0 or Schlupp(less possible since i have Moore), Robertson at 4.5, players who may give me attacking returns

Suppose Sturridge starts GW8, looks sharp and completes the full 90mins, is he only a viable option for those without a Kun//Costa//Pelle[Welbz] frontline?

Can't see how they get in him without downgrading Kun /Costa or downgrading a premium mid to upgrade Pelle/Welbz and that alone kinda makes it not worth the hit or downgrade.

I agree--as a Pelle/Welbz/Costa owner, I'm looking forward to having Sturridge replace one of them.

I feel like after spending 12+M on Kun, you'd probably want to give him 3+ games at the very least. An in-form Studge could outscore him in that same period. There's also the risk of getting Sturridge, before Kun has his next great haul.

Liverpool have Real Madrid next. Maybe wait until he is fully fit. Until then Aguero will have played 6 matches in 20 days or sth so the switch will be great at that moment.

Playing it 'cheap' with Costa/Pelle/Welbz upfront with money in the bank to upgrade Pelle/Welbz to Falcao, Studge or Kun [unless he rises to 12.4M] lol...I need Sturridge to go start hurling points in like yesterday.

United have an 'iffy' couple of games to say the least [CHE, City & ARS in the next 5]. Seen most of the games and ADM looks like the one 'must have' player from United. I might be tempted by Rooney when he comes back even but with Falcao, will need him to score a couple more goals. His price has dropped enough that I can afford a single price rise.

            1. Somalion

Though I may point out that none of those teams have been defensively great. I expect United to concede but I think they may still get some alright attacking returns, barring Chelsea possibly.

True and I think ADM should mop up most of the attacking points in the 'difficult' games. Hence why I'm comfortable owning just him. Should United surprise most people and come out relatively unscathed then I'll be looking to add one from Falcao/Rooney/RVP to double up on United's attack.

Whenever i check fixtures for attacking players, i lose points. Try to find best 7, they may score vs anyone. I only check fixtures for defenders (more possible cs)

Either this week for a hit or next week for free... Would you do Fabregas and PvA > Mangala and Cazorla?

    1. Mata-Is-The-Juan
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 6 months ago

      Mangala = Y
Cazola = N --mainly cos there are cheaper players in the same price range who are both in form and have decent fixtures coming up. A slightly risky punt IMO

    2. kesh
      • 9 Years

PVA has some bad fixtures and Cazorla's likelihood of starts just went up big-time with Ozil injured. However, my sense is that Fabregas will continue to produce a steady stream of points (and is due a goal or two - anyone else see his free-kick and other goals in pre-season!?) and Mangala's starts are not assured with his one bad performance recently and Demechelis being around. So in short - I would say no - especially not for a hit. I would consider replacing PVA though if you can - just not in order to bring in Mangala and doing so by downgrading Fab.

Agreed. Fabregas scored in the Champions League I'm delighted to own him.

Over the midfielders I'm not delighted at owning Sterling would be the one for me.

Good fixtures coming but possibly more rotation too or early substitution off or burn out.

I like the transfers you are thinking of. Even though I'm avoiding ADM at the moment he is still a very good choice. Go with ADM and Sakho. The latter is in a rich vein of form for West Ham and is being overlooked by most because of the Pelle/Welbeck thing.

He isn't in particularly good form at the moment although I notices he was back in his usual striker position in the last game. Probably better to go with the alternatives such as Pelle/Sakho or Aguero if you can afford it.

Duff. Purely in the hope that they will shut up shop at home.

Play 3 of these: Wisdom, Moore, Baines, Ivanovic and Bertrand.

What order for the bench with the remaining + Boyd?
