Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 8 – Sunday

Liverpool require two own goals to get the better of QPR, as Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard bag an assist apiece. Eduardo Vargas scores twice for the R’s, Wilfried Bony and Charlie Adam both notch for the second consecutive Gameweek, whilst Victor Moses produces an assist for the fourth league match in succession for Stoke.

Balotelli Fails to Convince
Brendan Rodgers recalled Mario Balotelli to the starting XI in the lone striker role for the QPR clash, but witnessed another wasteful display as his side needed two own goals to beat the basement-dwellers. With frustration amongst the Reds’ faithful now palpable, the situation up front is a far cry from Liverpool’s fluid and threatening forward line of 12 months ago. To compound matters, Rodgers confirmed post-match that Daniel Sturridge is set be sidelined for the next two to four weeks with a calf injury, putting the onus on Balotelli to produce if the Reds are to take full advantage of a kind schedule which see them face Hull, Newcastle, Palace, Stoke and Leicester in the next six.

Sterling’s Still Ticking Over
Despite a multitude of concerns surrounding Raheem Sterling’s fitness after his recent international duties, Liverpool’s starlet played the full 90 minutes at Loftus Road and earned an assist and two bonus points. Whilst the Reds’ forwards may be toiling, the winger has now scored or assisted in five of his last seven starts and sits just two points off the top of the FPL midfield standings. Though Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard threw their hats into the ring with attacking returns yesterday, Sterling still looks the likeliest source of points across those aforementioned fixtures.

Super Sub Vargas Bags A Brace
The Chilean climbed off the bench to score twice for Harry Redknapp’s side in a 12-minute cameo that should see him press for a starting role for QPR’s home encounter with Aston Villa in Gameweek 9. Vargas has now produced two goals, an assist and three bonus points across his last couple of appearances, though at 6.4 still looks too big a punt in a side who have lost four of their last five league outings. The Hoops have five strong fixtures in their next seven (AVL, new, LEI, swa, BUR) that could help turnaround their fortunes, though despite making changes at the back and between the posts, Harry Redknapp’s defence continues to look there for the taking– yesterday’s loss means they have now conceded two or more goals in six of their last seven league matches.

Bony’s Form Looking Up
Yesterday’s penalty strike means the Ivorian now has back-to-back goals to his name, and is finally starting to find his form ahead of an enticing home clash with Leicester next weekend. Available for 8.3 in the Fantasy Premier League game, Bony struggled in the early stages of this season, but his starting spot now looks secure, and with Swansea not having won since Gameweek 3, his rediscovered eye for goal could prove key if they are to turn their fortunes around. However, the Swans’ following three fixtures after the Foxes meeting (eve, ARS, mci) may well deter investors until Gameweek 13.

Sigurdsson On The Slide
His performance against the Potters saw the playmaker leave the field early after serving up a fourth blank in the last five Gameweeks, as his early-season consistency certainly shows signs of waning. Sigurdsson’s recent international displays, allied with his 10-point haul in Gameweek 7, had many hoping he would be able to produce against Mark Hughes’ men, but a total of just nine successful passes in the final third and no shots registered was indicative of his minimal impact. With his form floundering and so many other midfield options flourishing right now, some may consider looking elsewhere once the Leicester game is out of the way.

Stoke Midfield Hit Their Stride
Victor Moses was again in the points yesterday after controversially winning his side’s first-half penalty. That’s now four assists in the Nigerian’s last four appearances, though, despite a favourable 5.5 price tag, he continues to bubble under with an ownership of just 0.4%. It was Charlie Adam who stepped up to take the spot kick and, though he had dropped deeper to cover for the absence of Glen Whelan, the Scot’s penalty-taking duties have ensured he has now netted in each of his last two outings. With Oussama Assaidi and Jon Walters also in the points for the Potters yesterday, their midfield is starting to show some appeal, though managers should be wary that they face a dire upcoming schedule (sou, WHM, tot, BUR , liv, mun, ARS) with those two home encounters looking the only attractive fixtures right now.

Has readership of The Big Numbers article increased now that it has moved to Sunday evening? It's probably my favourite article and I preferred it when it was published after the GW had finished so it included all the games. However if readership has increased by moving it then fair enough.

It was traditionally on Sunday night when it was first devised and seems the best fit now. We moved the Community Round-up to Friday's which made sense and we needed that Sunday evening slot filled.

I prefer it Sunday night tbh. Most weeks it's after the whole GW has been finished, and if it's on Monday/Tuesday it just feels like I've already moved on to the next week, rather than still looking back at last week. Feels more relevant to me the closer it is to the bulk of the matched. Just my thoughts though.

I miss The Knee Jerk, that should be on the Sunday night and then The Big Numbers could be at the end of the gameweek.

I thought they were the most pointless articles tbh. It's basically just an article saying who scored well.

Similar reason why I prefer the Friday Community Roundup. Feels more like a recap of the last week before the deadline, while Sunday night seems like it should be more of a prelude to the next week.

This post/idea is for people that have Ivanovic and want Baines. Many of you (like me) probably want to keep Ivanovic and get Baines at the same time. My suggestion is to do Ivanovic -> Baines. When Chelsea's fixtures get better around gameweek 12, you trade your Clyne/Bertrand to Azpi if you want Chelsea defensive cover.

The only thing I'd say about that is that Chelsea often seem more likely for a clean sheet in 'difficult' games.

Agree, but I'd rather have Baines in easy fixtures than Ivanovic in difficult fixtures

In the last 4 game weeks, Ivanovic has 0 shots on target and just 2 shot assists, compared to 4 shots on target and 9 shot assists in the first four gameweeks. I think Jose is playing more defensively and it's time to give Ivan the boot at that price.

Since I decited that Moreno has got to go, Which defender would you get if you had 5.6 to spend? Already have Clyne Duff Wisdom Moore.

Im thinking Bertrand or Jags. Opinions?

    Fellow Community members,

Tired of getting hammered in the Scout Picks Challenge week in; week out? Sick of people using silly selection methods for their teams who end up inevitably scoring half the points of their counterparts? Well, it's time to put a stop to this nonsense.

I was going to put forward a team this week, but wasn't around at 10am when the polls opened, hence missing out on a lot of the early votes. As a result, I am going to choose the best team there, imo, and try to get votes for it all day today. I also realise not many like me as a poster so I probably wouldn't have won regardless.

I have decided that Nate's team is the best one there and deserves the opportunity of contesting with the other picks this week.

At the end of the day, it comes down to how much passion and pride we ourselves have in our own little FFS Community. STOP THE ROT, VOTE FOR NATE.

A huge problem is DeGea in the goal.

Who are people's Costa replacement if he is out for an extended period of time? Falcao for me if he does well today.

      Pelle for GW9-12, then Bony.

    Where to use a transfer?..........

    Begovic, Guzan,
    Baines, Ivanovic, Alderweireld, (Wilson, Moore)
    ADM, Fabregas, Sterling, Siggy (Boyd)
    Costa, Pelle, Welbeck

    2 FT, 0 ITB

I can't see any stand out moves, I'm happy with the rotation of my keepers and I'm trying to live with not having Aguero as I think my front three will all do well for their prices.

I considered Ivanovic to Coleman but not sure it's an upgrade.

I would get rid of Bego for a 4m Keeper, perhaps McCarthy and just play Guzan up until the winter wildcard

Good team, I'd get rid of Ivan for Clyne or Coleman. If you get Clyne you could do Siggy > Barkley.

    Bego
    Clyne-Terry-Duff-Chester-Ferdinand
    Sterling-ADM-Fab-Sigu-Albrigthon
    Costa-Aguero-Naismith

    Suggested moves?

Im considering Terry to Baines, Costa to Pelle and Naismith to Welbeck or Ferdinand to Chambers for a -4.

    Thanks guys.

    DDG,
    Wisdom, Clyne, Naylor
    Di Maria, Mane, Sterling, Siggy,
    Aguero, Welbeck, Costa

    Subs. Gilks, Chambers, Cahill, Marney,

Sterling/Siggy/Cahill/ Costa/ Mane/ DDG on the not sure how they will go list..

      Missing- Tadic/Fabregas/ Eriksen/ Sanchez/Lukaku/ Pelle/ Baines..

Might result in a rank drop this week, but all points are good points, particularly at this stage in the game. Might be worth dropping ADM and stealing a march over his owners perhaps, thus meaning you still get the points and the benefit of more points from the swap (should you manage to judge it well).

basically, i mean we should be wary of viewing weeks in isolation.
