The Weekend Team News

Jack Wilshere is a big doubt for Arsenal’s home clash with Burnley, who welcome back Dean Marney into midfield. West Ham’s Diafra Sakho is in with a chance of lining up against the Potters. Brendan Rodgers rules out Jose Enrique against Newcastle, who themselves could be without forward Papiss Cisse. Sadio Mane is set to return to training as he bids to prove his fitness ahead of Southampton’s KC clash, while the FA rescind Federico Fernandez’s three-match ban ahead of Swansea’s trip to Everton.

Arsene Wenger is “quite confident” Kieran Gibbs will overcome a hip problem in time for tomorrow’s visit of Burnley. The Gunners boss expects Jack Wilshere to miss out with a “very, very short-term” knee problem, whilst he also went on to confirm Theo Walcott is “not completely ready” and won’t start against the Clarets.

Sam Allardyce has revealed that Diafra Sakho is “touch and go” for the weekend, after injuring his shoulder during the win over Man City. Allardyce confirmed the Hammers will monitor the forward’s condition before Saturday, whilst James Tomkins and Matt Jarvis have recovered from their injuries and will make a return to the squad.

Jose Enrique will miss the reunion against former club Newcastle, with Brendan Rodgers confirming that the defender has an issue with his knee. The Reds boss has also conceded he expects Daniel Sturridge to remain sidelined until after the next international break, before talking up Fabio Borini’s prospects ahead of the Magpies clash and also hinting at a change of tactics for the weekend, after mainly operating with a 4-2-3-1 in Sturridge’s absence.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has rated Papiss Cisse “touch and go” as the striker bids to overcome a knee problem in time for the Liverpool clash.

Reports in the local press indicate David Silva will miss the next three weeks with a knee problem sustained against Newcastle in midweek. Manuel Pellegrini is expected to clarify the situation in today’s lunchtime press conference.

Sean Dyche has received a boost ahead of the trip to the Emirates, with news that midfielder Dean Marney is back in contention to face the Gunners after recovering from injury.

Sadio Mane is a doubt to face Hull as he bids to overcome an ankle injury picked up last week. Ronald Koeman has announced that the winger is expected to be part of the travelling squad on Saturday, should he come through training this morning.

Federico Fernandez will be available for Swansea’s trip to Goodison after successfully appealing the red card he received in the midweek cup exit to Liverpool. Elsewhere, midfielders Gylfi Sigurdsson and Ki Sung-Yeung are both back in training ahead of the Toffees test

All this and more has now been updated in the Team News section ahead of tomorrow’s deadline. Keep an eye on our official Twitter Stream as breaking news unfolds.

Here's some Hazard stats that I found on Twitter and researched myself:

Hazard Chelsea record vs newly promoted clubs:
    Played 11
    Goals 5
    Assists 5
    Minutes 852
    Return ave. min 85.2

Thanks to: https://twitter.com/FPLSWOT/status/527863392846237696 for the above.

I've also added some of my research:

    Bottom vs Top Half:
12/13 season 6g 12a from his overall of 9g, 14a (78% came vs bottom half)

13/14 season 11g 8a from his overall of 14g, 9a (82% came vs bottom half)

    Home vs Away:
12/13 season, home: 18 apps, 6g, 5a (55% though goals count for more so it's actually more)
    12/13 season, away: 16 apps, 3g, 6a

13/14 season, home: 18 apps, 10g, 2a (57% yet there are so many more goals here that would also mean more baps)
    13/14 season, away: 17 apps, 4g, 5a

Is that enough to captain him ahead of the likes of Costa or Aguero?

Indeed, but Costa wasn´t on the field too and I would count more on an own goal than a penalty.

      Hmm interesting

I am not impressed with Hazards stats as a whole, but this break down gives a very strong case for a good return against QPR.

Interesting, thanks. I looked up how Hazard had got on vs newly promoted sides at home earlier in the week, using transfermarkt, and found that he had 5 goals and 6 assists in 7 games, with 1 goal in 5 starts away to newly promoted sides...

I suppose that they probably didn't include this season's results against Leicester and Burnley, and transfermarkt disagreed over one of the assists.

In any case, it makes him an even more persuasive captain for this week, looking just at home games vs promoted sides.

Not convinced at all, Hazard has been completely overshadowed by Fabregas so far and not without suprise.
People banking on Hazard are the same people who probably sold Costa.

    Simple question...

Is Hazard - Fabregas - Costa too much?

Sanchez or Hazard debate. Hazard seems the best option to me. Chelsea are the inform team with good fixtures and he is in penalties.

    1. vova
      • 13 Years

Could you potentially get Sanchez for Fabregas? As he is on 4 yellows and the next yellow would mean a 1 match ban.

      1. No Pirlo No Party

Something I hadn't considered actually. I have had Fabregas since GW1 so would lose a lot of value on him. He is a keeper for me though.

And, like Vova, I think I'd fgo Hazard and Sanchez if possible. The Fabregas/Hazard debate is really tough and, like you, I've had him since GW1 so am reluctant to sell in case I want him back. So many midfield options!

Having all 3 of them could be advantageous when it comes to making this decision. Can easily downgrade Hazard/Fabregas to Walcott on his return.

I don't, hoping Fabregas and Hazard can cover the points this week! It's one or the other out of Costa and Aguero for me atm, and currently I'm just having Aguero. I don't want to lose Baines or destroy my midfield.

Think this is a legitimate concern. Even more so if you look at the fixture history (perhaps not the most relevant thing), apart from a 6-1 win a few seasons ago, Chelsea don't seem to hammer QPR.
