Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 11 – The Weak

Having run the rule over the sides set to ease their way into December, it’s now time to check on the teams granted a more treacherous path. Monday night’s participants provide the headline acts, while a cloud is hovering ominously over the Potteries. Elsewhere, we offer early warnings on some prime Fantasy assets on show at St Mary’s and the Emirates.

Sunderland

“frisking

Sunderland’s victory at Crystal Palace was all the more crucial given the schedule awaiting both clubs going into December.

Gus Poyet’s side will be desperate to build on the precious three points earned at Selhurst Park but find themselves on a collision course with Everton, Chelsea and Man City in their next three home matches. It’s fair to say that new stopper, Costel Pantilimon, will be kept busy during that period, while Steven Fletcher’s revival will be put to the test given that opportunities could be at a premium in the coming weeks. Poyet has earned results against the “bigger” teams before of course but, even so, the away trip to Leicester in Gameweek 12 looks vital if the Black Cats are to avoid being dragged back down into the relegation places by Christmas.

Crystal Palace

“frisking

Neil Warnock will have known the significance of Monday’s loss, with the fixture computer conspiring against his side over the next five Gameweeks.

A trip to Old Trafford without their suspended skipper Mile Jedinak and attacking spark, Wilfried Zaha, is followed by a home clash with Liverpool and a visit to Swansea. The Eagles then have a crunch clash with Villa at home, before taking on Spurs at the Lane.

Fantasy managers will have been warned off their inconsistent assets following Monday’s defeat and the schedule offers very little incentive to revisit Warnock’s charges until that Villa meeting.

Stoke

“frisking

Pegged back by West Ham on Saturday, Mark Hughes’s men face a torrid run over their next five, with the Britannia meeting with Burnley in Gameweek 12 looking crucial to their chances of retaining a mid-table position. Around that Potteries clash, Stoke face three evil away trips to Spurs, Liverpool and Man United and then a home encounter with Arsenal.

Hughes’ rearguard has shipped seven goals in their last four: if you’ve held your Stoke defensive assets through that period, now is the time to show them the door.

Also be wary of…

Southampton
Ronald Koeman’s outfit currently look unstoppable – capable of scoring goals across the team and reinforced by the best defence in the Premier League. That winning formula will be put to the test, however, once they’ve disposed of the St Mary’s meeting with Leicester and a “routine” trip to the woefully out-of-form Villa. City, Arsenal and United are hovering and they offer enough attacking menace to have us check for alternatives to our Saints defensive assets from Gameweek 13 onwards.

West Brom
While the Baggies face a pair of Hawthorns clashes with Newcastle and West Ham in the next four, encounters with Arsenal and Chelsea are sandwiched in the middle. When you consider Newcastle’s resurgence and West Ham’s goal power, you’d have to say that those holding Ben Foster or Andre Wisdom will be anticipating scant returns from that quartet. Meanwhile, Saido Berahino owners will likely be holding with one eye on West Ham’s Diafra Sakho as a cheaper replacement with stronger fixtures to come.

Arsenal
While the Gunners are being fired by the genius of Alexis Sanchez, Arsene Wenger’s flat-track bullies do not have the easiest of runs in the coming weeks. They may well get results against Swansea, United, West Brom and Southampton but – on paper – they’re up against three of the most improved defences over that spell. Bizarrely, given United’s casualties at the back, the Emirates meeting with Louis van Gaal’s men may actually provide the best platform for goals.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Aguero is top for literally every stay you would want as a fantasy football player.

    Current team:

    Krul

    Duff Wisdom Clyne

    Tadic Siggy Di Maria Sanchez

    Costa Pelle Aguero

    subs. Mannone Hutton Moore Marney

2 FT and 0,8m in bank.

Thinking Siggy to Downing. Would ship Siggy in for Tadic within 2 weeks when S'oton fixtures get tight.

    Thoughts?.

What do you think Demi? Sterling ->

        A) Downing
        B) Oscar
        C) Milner
        D) Tadic

Yeah, this week. Shoulda done it 2 weeks ago in hindsight, but got Sanchez in and now thinking Di Maria may have been a better option given the fixtures.

A or B for me. Would need to see the rest of your team though. Don't go near Milner. Soton running out of good fixtures

I wish I can do Sterling > Di Maria 🙁

            Begovic, Hamer
            Baines, Clyne, Collo, Wisdom, Moore
            Alexis, Sterling, Siggy, Chadli, Marney
            Aguero, Costa, Pelle

1 FT, 0.1m in the bank

            Any change in opinions?

Maybe losing one of Siggy or Chadli to get in Downing too? Then Sterling > ADM

Can get Siggy back in after the next two fixtures if necessary

I got the same exact suggestion a few days back. But that move still won't be enough for me to afford ADM right? I'm a good 1.0m short.

    Top 5 Worst Defences Statistically

    1. Hull
    2. Burnley
    3. Leicester
    4. QPR
    5. Sunderland

Based upon the above stats, who is the best option to captain between Pelle or Aguero?

Aguero faces QPR away after a reasonablt tough CL fixture this evening.
Pelle faces Leicester at home and has no midweek fixture.

Aguero or Pelle for your captain pick this week??

I don't know what stats you are looking at, but for me, Aston Villa is right up there. Along with Burnley,Man United and to a lesser extent QPR. Leicester is no where near that list, their stats are on the rise. 🙂

      1. TINO TINO GIVE US A WAVE

The stats are based upon an algorithm of goals conceded, clean sheets, shots conceded (inside and outside of the box) defensive errors, crosses conceded etc. Yes I appreciate that villa may be up there based upon the stats from the last 2-3 games however these are based upon the first 10 game weeks and therefore a true representation of the worst defences. Man united?? They currently sit around mid table in the defensive stats. Leicester have conceded 16 goals this season however I agree they have improved over the past couple of weeks. Hull by far have the worst defensive stats and have been lucky in only conceding 14 goals so far! Tip of the week…….BURNLEY!!!

Think I'm going to go with Pelle. Leicester seems more out of sorts, Saints boss teams at home. QPR having a mini-revival and Aguero playing today means only 3 days rest.

I've left the search bar open on this table of attacking stats per team...A search of Gameweek range 1-6 and then a search for last four gameweeks will reveal Jose's slimmed down attacking intent...and possible implications on Costa...Not that Costa will ever be a bad pick but City and Aguero are some distance ahead now.

Sanchez looked unplayable against burnley. I just couldn't justify putting him in so am going to be scared watching. Regardless of stats I feel we will play Ramirez im DM or we would mikel on 70th minute to a win. However, our 2 draws were late equalisers (86th city, 94th United) so maybe we will be more attacking!

Something that might be interesting to look at in the members' area, is the relationship between touches in the box and penalties awarded. You'd expect there to be a tight correlation between the two.

However, despite being attacking and one of the in-form teams, I don't believe Southampton have been awarded a penalty this year. Am going to check if the majority of their goals are coming from crosses which are likely to be from outside of the area.

    Chambers Clyne Wisdom (Wilson Duff)
DI Maria Hazard Siggy Chadli (Boyd)
    Welbeck Costa Aguero

    1FT and £1.2 ITB

    Which transfer has the priority?

The captaincy decision is arguably the most important factor in FPL. What are some criteria a player must have to warrant the armband for any given week?

Obviously form + fixture is the desired combination, but any other criteria such as 'must be playing at home', 'must be on pens', 'must be on set pieces' etc?

    1. SuperDunny - Used to be goo…

      @Shifty:

Captaincy selection for me is a combination of:

-For player: (last 4 game weeks)

      Shots inside box
      Penalty area touches
      Chances created

-For captaincy candidate's team: (last 4 game weeks)

      Shots inside box
      Big chances to score

-For captaincy candidate's opposition: (last 6 game weeks)

      Shots conceded inside box
      Big chances conceded

Has worked pretty well so far! 😀

I've only started following it since game week 4, when I bought Pelle incidentally:

          26,8,12,12,14,4,16,to follow...

Ah that Pelle brace captaincy. Nice scores. Can't say I've been as fortunate with my captaincy picks. 2 blanks in a row.

Thanks. With all these things taken into consideration and in depth statistical analysis, I'm sure you'll do well. All of this leads me to Kun (C) [no brainer] and Sakho (VC) with Pelle not too far behind in the race for the vice captaincy spot!

Yea def helps remove some doubt. Cheers TFF, you've come a long way since last season. I'd like to think I have too lol

I remember we were both stuck with Soldado pretty deep into the season and were trying to dig ourselves out of a massive hole!

Yep we've both improved, drastically! I reckon it's mostly down to the FFS community and the advice we get on here, in general. Has definitely helped a lot 🙂

I do, I stuck with him till game week 8 I think. What a nightmare! If only we were members back then 😉

      I'm looking at Kane myself.

People will tell you he wont start on here.

But out of all Spurs' strikers. He's earned his place to start.

      4.8?

What if he doesn't start at that price? He scored from the bench against Villa....
