Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 11

The Suspension Tightrope doubled in size after an incident-packed Gameweek 11 brought a host of players closer to an automatic one-match ban. Whilst last week’s seven incumbents managed to steer clear of the referee’s wrath and remain on four yellows, they were joined by a further seven players, with Diego Costa the most notable new entry, after the Chelsea striker kept up his remarkable record of being booked in every away appearance in the league so far.

Having missed back-to-back road trips to Palace and Man United over Gameweeks 8-9, Costa’s caution during Saturday’s 2-1 win at Liverpool added to cards accrued at Burnley, Everton and Man City, and given his ability to rack up the yellows on his travels, a ban looks imminent.

Joining Costa on four bookings after their weekend indiscretions are Andreas Weimann, Liam Moore, Richard Dunne, Morgan Schneiderlin and Swansea defensive duo Neil Taylor and Ashley Williams, compounding Garry Monk’s worries at the back, with the likes of Jordi Amat and Federico Fernandez both missing the 2-1 win over Arsenal through injury.

Costa’s caution means that the two most popular players in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game are in danger of toppling off the Tightrope. The 56%-owned Chelsea striker joins team-mate Cesc Fabregas (sitting in 53% of teams), whilst Southampton’s top scorer Graziano Pelle is another asset with big ownership sailing close to the wind.

In terms of newly banned players, Tottenham’s Kyle Naughton is set to face a two-match suspension after earning his second dismissal of the season last weekend. The right-back was sent packing during Sunday’s 2-1 home loss to Stoke after bringing down Victor Moses as the last man, with the Potters winger bearing down on goal. Naughton misses a trip to Hull and home clash with Everton and returns just in time for a Gameweek 14 trip to Chelsea, but with Kyle Walker set to return to first-team training next week, Naughton’s pitch time now looks at major risk.

Unsurprisingly, Tottenham’s decision to appeal Naughton’s ban was rejected by the FA yesterday, after an independent regulatory commission ruled he was guilty of denying Moses a goalscoring opportunity.

Naughton is one of three players suspended for Gameweek 12 duties. QPR defender Rio Ferdinand serves the last of a three-match ban away to Newcastle for his recent Twitter comments, whilst Villa’s Christian Benteke skips the second of a three-match suspension for violent conduct and misses upcoming clashes with Southampton and Burnley.

Arsenal’s Calum Chambers continued his recent ill-disciplined form, and earned a sixth yellow card in just eight Premier League starts for the north London outfit, earning his owners zero points in Sunday’s away loss to Swansea.

Finally, as many as five players return from one-match suspensions in time for Gameweek 12. Both Sunderland’s Lee Cattermole and West Brom’s Craig Gardner toppled off the tightrope in Gameweek 10 and, having sat out the previous round of fixtures, are back in contention for matches against Leicester and Chelsea respectively.

Chris Smalling is available for United’s trip to Arsenal, Palace midfielder and spot-kick taker Mile Jedinak is in the frame as Neil Warnock’s side host Liverpool, whilst Jonjo Shelvey returns for Swansea’s testing trip to the Etihad.

3 West Ham players to much for their upcoming fixtures. Currently have Sakho and Downing considering a West Ham d too.

I think so... wouldn't be doubling up in attack that's for sure...

Cresswell and one of Downing/Sakho would be enough...

I don't think it is too much, but I like to consider players by their individual expectations since your ownership doesn't affect their success. Unless you're the devil or something 😀

Hmmm. I've got both and wish I'd bought Charlie Austin instead of Sakho. I don't think I'd want three, to be honest.

Me too. But QPR are a bit to unpredictable. Though Austin has found great form, decent fixtures upcoming too.

It's mainly a question of fixtures and squad depth for me. West ham look great at the moment but they have far more attacking options available and there may be a bit of rest and rotation when the games start to come thick and fast. No sign of it yet but you never know. Austin is QPR's main man and should play 90 minutes in every game if fit.

      IMO, yes.
Too many options in both midfield & attack to double up on an (albeit in-form) upper-mid table side, let alone another asset in defense.

A double up spread out sounds like a more even playing field. There's great value in the Hammers team, their defense as well as many have an eye for goal in the back w/ stats to boot.
I'm eyeing up Adrian next week to compliment my Sahko.

Yeah agreed. I don't like to triple up on any team really. Only a handful of teams score/keep a clean sheet enough to warrant a triple. (Chelsea - Man City, Etc.. )

I'd be fine with a defender, Downing, and one of Sakho or Enner. Great fixtures, great stats, pretty good form...can't see a problem with it for the short term.

Mad Men is a work of art, the cinematography, sound editing, costumes & the set alone is unlike anything we've seen in television before.
The underlying themes are also great to dig into.

    Forster
    Clyne - Baines - C Dawson (PvA/N Taylor)
Fab - Sanchez - Siggy - Downing (Boyd)
    Costa - Kun - Berahino

    £0.9M ITB. 2 FT's, what to do? I'm thinking -

    PvA > ??? Berahino > ???

I'd do just PvA to either Yun or Dummett and float the other. Don't think it's worthwhile to lose Berahino for another like-priced attacker as it seems a bit sideways. You may have to sort out Fab. You could use two frees next week on switching Clyne and Forster possibly also.

Going well mate. Pretty torn between my options this week though. It's either

          A) Saving FT and keeping Fabregas and Pelle. This would allow me to get rid of Pelle and Tadic for 2 FT's next week
          OR
          B) Taking a hit and getting Costa and Chadli in for Fabregas and Pelle this week. However, I need to make the changes soon as I'll be priced out after this week if I opt for this option. If I am priced out, I would have to get Downing instead of Chadli next week in order to accomodate Costa. However, I have Sakho already and not too keen on doubling up.

          What do you reckon mate?

Well, after owning Adebayor for 2 piss easy fixtures at the start of the season, told myself never trust Spurs. Ultimate Jekyll & Hyde team.

Chadli is the only FPL option imo - purely from a value perspective. a 6.5-7m regular goal scoring mid is still good value. Though still think he's been jammy as feck.

I feel very lucky never to own a Spurs player so far. Almost got Eriksen with my initial team. Now only Chadli looks like a viable option.

Consider yourself lucky you didn't start w/ Naughton Gw1 😉

Eriksen has been very unlucky so far, so many chances created w/ no one to put come the goods. Chadli has the advantage of finishing things on his own, terminator style.

Wow, Naughton. Then came the Dier show lol

Yep, he's been very unlucky. People expected him to perform a Lallana when the new gaffer arrived, but so far the team has let him down. If I have extra money, I'd get Chadli over Downing unlike most here.

Dier was just to good to be true. The casuals started that bandwagon though in any case, that man was unstoppable w/ his form.

Yeah, hopefully Poch has something lined up in January to better the team in any way. Chadli has been on the best value players for far, & he's he best one at scoring goals in the price bracket. Like many here said, he's an awkward player to own, just so seductive to those of us missing out out on his sprees

If you are comparing it to other Nolan films you may be disappointed. But as a stand-alone film its up there with the very best of this year. I think it's very close to being a great film, it just has a lot of flaws which are understandable given the ambitious scale of the film. Some of those scenes in IMAX had me gripping the arm rests though 😛 so intense.

Pretty sure I've been to the cinema about 40 times this year and it wasn't in the top 10 or anywhere near it.
Did you not find it awfully meandering? And it seemed as if he slotted in lots of epic, loud music to make the underwhelming action scenes seem a bit more exciting.
The acting was terrific, but I thought it was an awfully put together script.

In Philadelphia, we're all brothers 🙂

Would never in a million years do C. I'd prefer Dummet of those options if you can cover for him later on Gw15 onward. Your third defender spot is definitely a worry & Dummet has the best chance of providing immediate cleanies in your backline.

I'd take the hit to get Hazard in if Fab is injured fox the game

        That's nice. Reminds me of AI3 😉

Yeah, Dummet has fixtures and probably rising too. But Yun is very intriguing pick. Amazingly I got a lot of unexpected CS from my 3rd Def spot, which made me feel very lucky this season.

Hazard eh? It's a close call between the two.

Yun does have some attacking threat & found himself at times in the box vs City.
But then again, it is Rangers we're talking about here. He's a great 3.9 option for an in-form team, but I feel their form is in attack as of late, not in the back.

Rio back might skew my opinion though 😉

    @Champ.

    Battery dieded earlier.

Rank is surprisingly well after a terrible start and a worse GW 4 (I kneejerk Balo and Naismith in instead of my planned Costa Pelle).

Climbed from 1.2m to 10k mark last week. Hopefully I can keep the good form.

For the first time this season I might have a clean sweep of CS's in the back! Thank you Begovic for providing your saves & value to the team, now get the feck out & you better not let Ings past you 😉

For those w/ Begovic, who your candidate to overthrow his reign?
Currently on either Adrian or Fabi depending on Azpi rising

6.3, but if he manages to drop by .2m before Gw13, he'll make my decision even harder.

Has shown so much threat in the box in Europe & in recent weeks, that he's getting hard to ignore & could even match his tally of last year 😯

Boyd for sure. I'm still kicking myself for putting Duff ahead of him on my bench a few weeks ago when Costa didn't play. I got Duff's 1 point instead of Boyd's goal. If I had Boyd first sub I'd be in the top 75... Don't make the same mistake I did! 🙂

Hazard by an ounce, has so much threat in him in the box it's unreal.
His form will soon translate into points I reckon, if DC gets a yellow next week for some reason folks will be scrambling for Eden.

AdM a good shout, but who will finish his crosses in the box? A pity most of his SoT have been from outside the box.

Last question before making final transfers.

Thinking Tadic + Fab -> Sanchez + Boyd [Thanks to Walsh ;)]
which leaves me with 3.1 itb to do Clyne --> Azpi/Cahill the following week.

    Front 8 is currently:
    ADM, Downing, Fabs, Siggy, Tadic
    Berahino, Aguero, Welbz

    Yay or Nay?

Pardon me for posting again, but I would like to make my situation a bit more clearer

    Which option do you prefer?

        sorry bud 😳

maybe save FT then do Fabregas and Pelle to Downing and Costa next week? West Ham are in fine form and have great fixtures, so I wouldn't be afraid of a double up, they have one of the better offenses in the league 🙂
