Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Sunday

The Gameweek rolls on with a pair of Sunday afternoon Premier League encounters at the KC Stadium and Selhurst Park.

We start in South London, where Liverpool return to the scene of the crime – the venue where last season’s title hopes were slain after the Merseysider’s conceded a three-goal lead to Crystal Palace.

They arrive to take on the Eagles in a far different situation, struggling for form and without a strike force seemingly fit to lace the boots of either Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge. The latter misses out once again for Brendan Rodgers’ side along with Mario Balotelli who is absent today with a groin problem. Rickie Lambert starts in the Liverpool attack, then, whilst in midfield Rodgers is without the industry of Jordan Henderson through illness. Joe Allen and Adam Lallana are drafted in as Emre Can drops to the bench.

Crystal Palace also make changes as Mile Jedinak returns from his suspension to displace the injured James McArthur in midfield. He drops to the bench along with Wilfried Zaha as Jason Puncheon earns a recall to the flank. Dwight Gayle also earns a start as Frazier Campbell surrenders his starting berth.

Later today, we focus on Tottenham’s attempts to win three points on Humberside as Mauricio Pochettino’s outfit take on Hull City in their own backyard. Fantasy managers will be looking to Harry Kane to take his opportunity up front and add to the growing arsenal of budget strikers available, whilst also hoping that claims of a Nacer Chadli knee injury prove off the mark.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Chadli and Downing > Oscar and 4.4 and double up with Hazard...?

      If that 4.4 slots in as your 5th I don't see a problem with it and it lets you lose your least favorite player on the planet in Chadli 🙂 I still think Downing is good value and wouldn't want to get rid in front of their run of fixtures though.

        Should have said if they are both out for a while...I'm a bit nervy going into Christmas without a decent bench...

    Defence: Jagielka Bertrand Clyne (Hutton Moore) with 1FT

    A) Bertrand -> Caulker
    B) Bertrand, Clyne -> Caulker, Terry (-4)
    C) Save FT*

    *if C, play double SOU against MCI, or play Hutton instead of one of them?

      Keep one Southampton defender imo. Bertrand is also a better asset (and cheaper) than Clyne imo, greater chance of attacking returns.

      Wouldn't invest in QPR's defence.

      What about Moore not playing? You'll need nailed on players for christmas rotation.

      Thanks gents. Think I'll actually just save this week and then do Clyne, Moore -> 2 playing 4.7 defenders for the xmas fixtures.

    So who are the best 3 Chelsea options?

    For my money Costa and Cesc (providing you bought him early+cheap) are the best two options.

    That just leaves one space for Hazard/Oscar/Azpilicueta. What are people thinking?

    I can't help but feel that Hazard and Oscar are offering better value than a Chelsea defender at this stage. Although given Southampton's fixtures, a Chelsea defender looks very attractive over the next month or so.

    So that's 2 more budget strikers in the list of options. Gayle and Ings. I don't think you need 3 big hitters up front

      Kane too possibly. Two straight starts if he pops up with a decent performance today he should be given longer run of games.

        Yes I already included Kane. These are 2 new entries onto an already extensive list. I'm swapping Naismith for one of them, just too much choice.

            Milanista speaks the truth, the impact of losing Luis is much larger than was appreciated. Compounded by Sturridge returning to is injury riddled self. It all has to change now methinks, Stevie G must go...

              compounded with the fact rogers clearly does not no how to coach a defence..... conceded alot of goals last season

                Twas unfortunately ignored while Suarez was compensating but I agree completely. That stems from issues in the CM though and Stevie G, he is no defensive mid.
