Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 14

A 2-0 win over QPR handed Swansea a sixth clean sheet of the season but Tuesday evening’s triumph came at a cost for Garry Monk’s side as ever-present Neil Taylor toppled off the Suspension Tightrope. After earning his fifth caution of the campaign, the left-back is one of four players who are set to serve a one-match ban this weekend as he sits on the sidelines for the Welsh club’s trip to West Ham.

Chelsea are once again deprived of a first-team regular due to suspension ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s trip to Newcastle. This time round Jose Mourinho needs to make do without Nemanja Matic after the midfield enforcer earned a fifth yellow in last night’s home win over Tottenham.

Andi Weimann and Wes Morgan will both miss Villa’s home clash against Leicester. The former earned his fifth yellow in midweek, while the latter received his marching orders against Liverpool. Morgan’s absence offering Liam Moore the chances of a rare start for the visitors but, up against Christian Benteke, he may well struggle to bring in the points as Nigel Pearson’s side attempt to improve upon a run of one clean sheet in ten Gameweeks.

Taking stock of the Tightrope after the midweek matches, we now have 22 players sitting just one caution away from a ban. Essentially, one more yellow card in the next five Gameweeks (until the extension kicks in on January 1) for any of them will trigger an automatic one-match suspension. From a Fantasy perspective, Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas (sitting in 51% of sides) is the most high profile, though owners of the likes of Graziano Pelle, Vincent Kompany, Morgan Schneiderlin, Daryl Janmaat and Ryan Shawcross also have cause for concern.

Stoke, Southampton and Hull are most affected here – each of those sides have a trio of players teetering on the Tightrope as we head towards Gameweek 15.

As Fantasy managers are more than aware, Diego Costa is back for Chelsea after sitting out last night’s clash against Spurs. There’s no doubt his disciplinary record on the road is a worry, though – having been booked in all five away appearances, he’ll need to curb his enthusiasm for fear of facing another suspension later in the season.

Newcastle welcome back a couple of midfielders for the visit of Jose Mourinho’s side, with Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko looking set to return to first-team duties. City’s defensive worries also ease a little as Everton roll up to the Etihad. With Vincent Kompany expected to remain on the sidelines, Eliaquim Mangala is available once again, after sitting out Wednesday’s trip to Sunderland.

Finally, Gaston Ramirez and Claudio Yacob will serve the last of three-match bans this weekend as Hull welcome West Brom to the KC.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

It was nothing more than a hopeful outlet ball. Vertonghen made a massive hash of it. How hard is that to see?

You think Azpi is the sort to play a hopeful outlet ball? He's Mr. Percentages. He wouldn't have played it if it wasn't on.

He's playing against a high line, with a pacey striker, and played it over the top into the space. Complete opposite of jammy.

But it wasn't into an area which should've been threatening Spurs' goal. Remy made Vert look a right arse about three times. Some of the worst defending I've seen in the PL.

It was over the top, in behind the defenders. I'd say that's a threatening area. Remy finished it well, but Azpi deserved the assist.

I'm not saying it wasn't a good ball. But it was wide of Spurs' goal. All Vertonghen had to do was push Remy wide to slow it down. Instead after getting caught ball watching he lunged in, gave Remy the cutback toward goal and then fell down some feeble attempt to bring him down? Not sure what he was doing. Was shocking.

Rémy did some excellent job there, but the thing you're really complaining about is Verthongen's defending, not Azpi's pass. So put it better next time.

It was a good pass, just also required Rémy to win his duel with Verthongen, and he did that. Rémy has a lot of grit to add to his pace and technique, not easy to win a duel against, even if Vert could have done much better.

It was an outlet ball, to get Remy to the corner if anything. That's my point. Never should've turned into a chance. Vertonghen should've been awarded the assist if anything.

Anybody with eyes, functional brain and any knowledge of the sport can see that he put a pass to open space for Rémy to run to, a manoeuvre also known also as a "through ball".

Try to say the things that you mean. You meant that Vert played badly, what you said was Azpi put a lucky pass.

I think there might be a tad of Newcastle bias there. 😉

Tough one, Eriksen looks like a bumpy road, not been consisdent enough so far, but Oscar is a rotation risk now during the christmas period.

Hmmm, a tough one, Baines is the best value player in the FPL, I'd have him any week. Rooney, recovering from injury....Costa well rested....tricky. I have Apizi,Baines and Costa. I'd say Costa over Rooney just cod Man U are playing Saints who nearly held out against Arsenal. B based on fixtures this week but overall id want to have all of the except Rooney for most of the season.

    Yun Clyne Chambers
    Hazard Sanchez Downing Siggy
    Kun(c) Austin Rooney

    Krul Boyd Duff Naylor

    5m ITB and 1FT

    A) Rooney -> Costa FT
    B) Upgrade Duff/ Krul
    C) Save FT

I'm already playing Foster(HUL A), should I play Moore(AVL A) over Wisdom(HUL A) or risk the double Baggies defenders at Hull?

      • 10 Years

      It's all 1st striker -> Aguero and 2nd striker -> Kane. He's everyone's make-weight for Kun I reckon.

I'm pretty pleased to be sticking with Chadli really. Dropping slowly and I reckon he'll start this weekend after last night's display from Spurs. 🙂 If not, I'll be ready to sell next GW with a replacement in mind.

    Foster

    Baines , Chambers , caulker

    Eriksen , Hazard , Oscar , Sanchez

    Aguero (c) , Austin (v) Bony

    Mannone, Boyd, Wisdom , Moore

    £1.1m in bank

Ok Baines & Chambers have helped me to a decent rank but always good to stay ahead of the curve. Chambers will get rested for Debuchey soon and maybe Baines point run is behind him , so:-

    Baines > Azpi

    Leaving next week
    Chambers > Zabeletta

    Then
    Oscar > Silva

Or I could just save the transfer
