Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 14

A 2-0 win over QPR handed Swansea a sixth clean sheet of the season but Tuesday evening’s triumph came at a cost for Garry Monk’s side as ever-present Neil Taylor toppled off the Suspension Tightrope. After earning his fifth caution of the campaign, the left-back is one of four players who are set to serve a one-match ban this weekend as he sits on the sidelines for the Welsh club’s trip to West Ham.

Chelsea are once again deprived of a first-team regular due to suspension ahead of Saturday lunchtime’s trip to Newcastle. This time round Jose Mourinho needs to make do without Nemanja Matic after the midfield enforcer earned a fifth yellow in last night’s home win over Tottenham.

Andi Weimann and Wes Morgan will both miss Villa’s home clash against Leicester. The former earned his fifth yellow in midweek, while the latter received his marching orders against Liverpool. Morgan’s absence offering Liam Moore the chances of a rare start for the visitors but, up against Christian Benteke, he may well struggle to bring in the points as Nigel Pearson’s side attempt to improve upon a run of one clean sheet in ten Gameweeks.

Taking stock of the Tightrope after the midweek matches, we now have 22 players sitting just one caution away from a ban. Essentially, one more yellow card in the next five Gameweeks (until the extension kicks in on January 1) for any of them will trigger an automatic one-match suspension. From a Fantasy perspective, Chelsea playmaker Cesc Fabregas (sitting in 51% of sides) is the most high profile, though owners of the likes of Graziano Pelle, Vincent Kompany, Morgan Schneiderlin, Daryl Janmaat and Ryan Shawcross also have cause for concern.

Stoke, Southampton and Hull are most affected here – each of those sides have a trio of players teetering on the Tightrope as we head towards Gameweek 15.

As Fantasy managers are more than aware, Diego Costa is back for Chelsea after sitting out last night’s clash against Spurs. There’s no doubt his disciplinary record on the road is a worry, though – having been booked in all five away appearances, he’ll need to curb his enthusiasm for fear of facing another suspension later in the season.

Newcastle welcome back a couple of midfielders for the visit of Jose Mourinho’s side, with Jack Colback and Moussa Sissoko looking set to return to first-team duties. City’s defensive worries also ease a little as Everton roll up to the Etihad. With Vincent Kompany expected to remain on the sidelines, Eliaquim Mangala is available once again, after sitting out Wednesday’s trip to Sunderland.

Finally, Gaston Ramirez and Claudio Yacob will serve the last of three-match bans this weekend as Hull welcome West Brom to the KC.

Best single keeper till gw 24?
Likely to use Jan wc for gw 23.

Looking at Guzan, DDG, Fabianski or Adrian.

Think I'll keep Cameron over Duff

Firstly at least Cameron is starting (and fit) plus Burnley's next 6

qpr, SOT, tot, LIV, mci, new

Cameron's aren't great but there is a trip to Palace and home game with West Brom in there

I was thinking in downgrade fábregas and chambers to downing and one cheap defender to upgrade austin to rooney... next week...

    What you think?

Do Costa to rooney instead.. there is good value in the cheap strikers at present. Thinking of Ings, Austin or Kane

Not necessarily. Fabregas has a lot more arrows in his cap when it comes to point scoring, he has outscored him to date. I expect further injuries scares and possible red cards with Costa so will likely finish the season playing 27-32 games where as Fabs is a shoe in. Also when you have Aguero as a captain option having players who regularly come in with 6-10 points, hoover up the bps are exactly what you need.

Defense is a problem. I'd downgrade Fab and upgrade Yun maybe? Look to get Azpi in possibly. Mirallas or Eriksen are good options to downgrade to. Dunno if they would allow you to get Azpi but they might.

    Sigurdsson, Sanchez, Hazard/Fabregas/Oscar, ?

Can't see past Siggy's value, Sanchez's explosive potential or having at least one Chelsea midfielder, given their form. Unless you double up on Chelsea (which I can't personally do with Azpi/Costa), that fourth spot seems fairly up in the air, with the potential to either make up or lose ground.

Who do you see as the best option there? Yaya, Eriksen, Downing, Chadli... anyone else? I currently have Sterling, and am looking at Di Maria once he returns.

Not really a clear cut option.

Eriksen has good fixtures and has scored well in his last few, though always seems at risk of being hauled off early.

YYT is very expensive and hasn't been as involved as last season.

Lots on Downing, but I'm still not convinced.

Then again I've still got Mane...

Austin v Kane? What do we think?

    Austin
    - Nailed on
    - Only worthwhile at home
    - BUR and WBA in next 4

    Kane
    - Potential rotation risk (though has played 90 for last 4)
    - Great fixtures
    - Seems on good form
    - Cheaper

On paper it seems to be but Kane would potentially be a good option at 7.5m for example and you wouldn't think it was too lightweight then. It's just a matter of perception I think. Would allow you to have Baines + Chelsea defender plus a monter midfield as well, potentially even a decent 5th mid to rotate Austin with every now and then. Kane opens up a lot of possibilities imo and I'm confident he'll get the points over the next 3-4.

Yeah, so true. I bought Austin in for LEIC and never captained him as I felt it was to risky to (c) a QPR striker. Had Ibought Rooney vs HULL I would have (c)him.

It would also allow some rotation in midf as well, even though I hate having that headache.

Kane is on pens when Soldado is not on the pitch though. Something to keep in mind.

I don't think austin is just good for the home games. He's only a penalty or penalty boX scramble away from attacking points. Nearly got an assist this week ( probably should have)

Yeah he could produce away but it's a lot less likely.

Just 2 QPR goals away from home in 7 games, and they look like a totally different side on the road. They were awful at our place a few weeks ago.

With Debuchy returning - when is it time to ditch Chambers. Three of Arsenals next four matches certainly look promising in terms of CS potential. Surely Chambers will still play this weekend?

Probably the sensible move. I'm planning to get in Azpi, but will probably do Naylor -> Azpi instead.

Don't ditch yet. Wenger has said his plan for Chambers is to move him to midfield. Might not be something that happens for a while but who knows maybe he puts him in as CDM sooner than later. As an Arsenal fan id welcome the experiment.

      1. Pompel
        • 10 Years

As a CDM surely he will be rotated when pushed from defense- don't want that?

    Hmmmm....what to do?

    Krul / Elliott
    Baines / Naylor / Chambers / Duff / Wisdom
    Alexis / Fab / Haz / Siggy / Wanyama
    Kun / Costa / Kane

    2 FT's 0.1 itb

    Pick one:

    A - Krul > Guzan
    B - Duff > Hutton
    C - Duff & Fab > Azpil & Downing
    D - Duff & Fab > Janmatt & Sterling/Eriksen
    E - Fab & Kane > Benteke & Downing
    F - Something else?

    Guzan,
    Cahill, Chambers, Wisdom,
    Sanchez, Hazard, Siggy, Downing,
    Austin, Aguero, Giroud .

    Subs: Clyne, Naylor, Marney, Gilks

    What should I do here?
    4.3m in account. 1 ft
    A. Giroud- Costa right away. or
    B. Save and re assess... Costa/Rooney/Baines on my radar!

Will know more AFTER this GW I think

      Who comes in?

He's been out for what...3 GWs? Made the bench the last 2 and made a cameo the last one. That's a player being eased back into the squad IMO. I'd give him 1 more week.
