Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Monday

A disappointing Gameweek 15 finally comes to its conclusion this evening as Southampton brace themselves for the visit of in-form Man United. Louis van Gaal’s side roll up to St Mary’s on the back of four successive wins and will be looking to take advantage of their injury-hit hosts.

Despite the loss of Angel Di Maria to a hamstring complaint, United will be confident of another victory after Wayne Rooney recovered from a knee problem late last week. The Red Devils skipper has scored in each of his last two league appearances and has the chance to stake a claim as a possible replacement for Sergio Aguero in our three-man frontlines tonight.

Robin van Persie, Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini have all been amongst the goals in the last two matches and have the platform to cement a place in Fantasy managers’ thoughts ahead of Gameweek 16.

For the Saints, Ronald Koeman faces a tough task to steady the ship. Southampton have lost each of the last two without finding the net, and with the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Jack Cork and Toby Alderweireld ruled out, a ninth clean sheet of the season looks hard to come by.

The misfiring Graziano Pelle – still owned by 22% of Fantasy Premier League managers – attempts to score for the first time in seven Gameweeks this evening, whilst the inconsistent Dusan Tadic may struggle to improve upon a record which has seen him blank in 10 of his 14 league appearances.

    Was Rooney playing up front or in midfield/on the wing? Still don't know whether to get him in..

          Take the points and run, I say. On to the Liverpool game - where he'll no doubt notch.

      He was playing up front. I have him, and wish I did not. He was awful tonight. No shots and was not working hard to come to the ball.

      Rooney will always get points no matter how bad he plays. He makes things happen. He could even pick up a bap tonight which is something that Costa would never do unless he scored.

    Aguero does free up a lot of cash, but who to spend it on?
    A) Sigurdsson, Aguero --> Yaya, Bony (-4p)
    B) Downing, Aguero --> Yaya, Benteke (-4p)
    C) Aguero --> Rooney

    1. Veggente

      I have the same idea than your A, but I'm not sure that Yaya is superior to some middle-price options (sigurdsson or eriksen for example)
