Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 15

As managers start to utilise the depth of their first-team squads and introduce fresh legs into starting line-ups, the number of injuries was kept fairly minimal over the weekend. Unfortunately for City and Fantasy managers alike, a certain Argentine’s knee problems casts a shadow over plans for the festive period.

Aston Villa
Paul Lambert is sweating over the fitness of midfielder Ashley Westwood, who was stretchered off with a knee injury in yesterday’s win over Leicester. The Villa boss also has concerns over Tom Cleverley, who was replaced midway through the second half with a foot problem.

Leicester
Ritchie De Laet missed the trip to Villa Park due to illness, allowing Danny Simpson his first start at right-back for the Foxes. Top scorer Leonardo Ulloa notched his first goal since Gameweek 5 yesterday but was forced off at the break during the 2-1 loss at Villa due to a calf problem. After the match, Nigel Pearson explained his decision to withdraw the Argentine:

“In the challenge prior to half time he got a heavy knock with a follow-through and he didn’t fully recover from that, so we felt it was still important to still have the work rate out there with Nugent coming on for him.”

Man City
As Fantasy managers know only too well, Sergio Aguero was forced off early against Everton on Saturday evening due to a knee injury. Whilst Manuel Pellegrini has yet to make a statement since Saturday’s post-match briefing, unconfirmed reports last night suggest Aguero could miss the next month – or at least five Gameweeks, to you and me.

Initial reports suggested Fernandinho missed out through injury but further updates indicate the midfielder was simply rested from the squad to face Everton.

Newcastle
Rob Elliott has been ruled out until January with a thigh injury sustained in the weekend win over Chelsea. With first-choice stopper Tim Krul also sidelined, Jak Alnwick is poised for a stint between the sticks. Alan Pardew – who is without the suspended Steven Taylor – has also revealed skipper Fabricio Coloccini is, once again, an early injury doubt. Mehdi Abeid missed out with a recurrence of a toe problem against the Blues.

Stoke
Marc Wilson and Marko Arnautovic missed the Potters’ 3-2 home win over Arsenal with hamstring and groin problems respectively. Marc Muniesa was forced off after sustaining a hamstring injury, with post-match reports suggesting he could be sidelined for 10 days.

West Brom
Georgios Samaras missed the Baggies trip to Hull on Saturday due to illness, the club’s official Twitter feed has confirmed. After the match, Alan Irvine explained the reasons behind a couple of second-half withdrawals:

“I wanted to be as positive as possible with my changes but at half-time we had Stephane Sessegnon struggling with a tight calf and Victor Anichebe still troubled by his groin problem.”

West Ham
Carl Jenkinson is an early weekend worry for the Hammers. After serving up his second assist of the season, the right-back was forced off with a hamstring injury during the 3-1 win over Swansea.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Still playing with good fixtures. Might change on a wild card but too many other issues to even consider changing him.

I am having so much trouble with this decision.

    Fabregas > Yaya

I would only be losing 0.1 value as I bought him recently, but I just can't decide whether it is worth it.
MF would end up: Hazard - Sanchez - Yaya - Siggy - Downing

    Any advice either way?

I normally wc in GW23 as I save a FT the week before and take a 1 GW punt or 2 before wc as there's usually a midweek GW for line-ups

    But given

    a) The huge gap between GWs 22 and 23
    b) The lack of a ,midweek GW22

Is it really worth waiting till the last possible GW? The only logical reason I can see is to get free choice at any deadline day signings

I'm thinking GW23, but that is based on my £ ML games as well.
23 looks good to me, all we have for GW24 as you say are deadline day signings. I can only think of one or two I would trust to switch club or league to play in the first game they are eligible for.

So I think 23 or 24 make sense.

I'd wager that City is the only one, in fact. I may be wrong, of course, but can't think of a big PL team at least that wouldn't have started some English player who had come from their own academy since 2008. And smaller the club the more normal it is to use their own youth products.

United played a youth team against MK Dons (4-0 loss LOL), and given some games to that wilson kid plus the cb's... plus welbeck until they sold him

          Spurs have Mason, Bentaleb, Kane

Arsenal have Hayden at CB (or watever his name is)

          Chelsea aren't great either though

What to do with this lot?

    Fabianski* - Hamer

    Chambers* - Azpi - Baines - Bertrand - Duff*

    Hazard - Siggy - Downing - Sanchez - Boydinho

    Kun* - Austin* - Costa

0.0itb 0FT (I did Fab to Haz on Saturday)

    A) Fabianski + Kun > Hart + Bony
    B) Fabianski + Kun > Hart + Sakho
    C) Kun + Chambers > Bony/Sakho + O'Shea (just go in with no GK as Fabianski has decent fixtures after he is back)
    D) Kun + Siggy > Bony + YYT (worry getting YYT in as he is close to getting a 1 game ban)

I won't be getting him, my MF is Sanchez, Hazard, Fabregas and Sigurdsson so don't feel I will miss him and he's not must have like last year, he's ticking over and nothing else, yes he is on pens but Hazard owners will tell you that you can't rely on those.

Am tempted on a City block in defence instead to try and get something from their fixtures.

Can see them tightening up without Aguero to bail them out.

Whats the storyline on Dzeko/Jovetic then... Do we buy the one that starts against Roma, or the one that doesn't?

      How I see it:

-Last season Dzeko saved City's ass when Aguero got banned. Phenomenal record. Over 7 points per 90 minutes which is solid. He should play a lot.

-Either Dzeko will play by himself or with Jovetic in a 442

Dzeko wasn't fully fit. Doubt Pellegrini will have faith in a 18 year old nobody.

Thats why, disregarding the fact that its super sad that the best player in the league is now injured, its good from an FPL perspective. Atleast to those of us that hate the template.

Ah, I don't think why people are lamenting so much about Aguero missing out when he had plum fixtures.

From what I see, 90% would have (c) Aguero in those five games anyway, so it would have been a Fantasy game of 10 players. True, Aguero missing is so bad from the PL point of view, I love that player, but it was good for FPL.

I am at 7k, and I would want to improve, not 'hold' my rank, how some people call it.

So my team is completely destroyed.... PLEASE someone help me....

    Foster - Krul
    S Taylor - Chambers - Duff - Azpilicueta - Clichy
    Chadli - Hazard - Dyer - Sanchez - Hoilett
    Costa - Aguero - Austin
    1 FT. And £1m ITB.

Krul, S Taylor, Chambers, Austin, Aguero, Duff all out for this GW (at least)
Hoilett, Chadli, Dyer are playing from the bench.
    That's 8 of my 15 players who aren't starting.....

I was thinking Aguero -> Bony/Carroll/Benteke and Hoilett -> to a big MF

      • 10 Years

Aguero to Bony/Benteke and *maybe* Hoilett to Silva (have to see him play in champion's league first)

still only have 2 def's to start for next week... get rid of Chambo for someone I guess, though that's another -4, so maybe not

Jeez that's a mess. You need to use 3 transfers i reckon to get 11 players on the pitch for gw16.

      Chambers - Hutton/Bartley
      Hoilett - Yaya
      Aguero - Dzeko

      That leaves you for gw16.....

      Foster
      Hutton/Bartley, Azpi, Clichy
      Chadli, Hazard, Dyer, Sanchez, Yaya
      Costa, Dzeko

Dyer is due a start ahead of Routledge
