Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 17

Four more players toppled off the Suspension Tightrope this week, with a couple of culpable parties earning their fifth yellow card during Sunday’s Tyne-Wear derby. Cheick Tiote is unavailable for Newcastle’s upcoming trip to Old Trafford, whilst the Black Cats’ Connor Wickham sits out a plum home encounter with Hull.

The Tigers’ midfielder Jake Livermore will also miss that Stadium of Light encounter and Southampton will travel to Palace on Boxing Day without the services of skipper Jose Fonte, as Ronald Koeman prepares for yet another defensive re-shuffle.

In terms of the Tightrope, another three players made their way onto four yellows for the season – Santi Cazorla, John O’Shea and Erik Pieters are the latest new entries, taking the total to 32 players. Pieters’ inclusion means Stoke now have four players just a single card away from a ban, more than any other side.

O’Shea’s team-mate Lee Cattermole is now up to eight yellows in just 16 league appearances after being booked in the North East derby. The midfield enforcer had picked up a total of two reds and nine yellows across the previous couple of campaigns due to a lack of pitch time but is clearly keen to atone for lost time. If Cattermole is cautioned in both of the next two, he’ll face the ignominy of toppling from the Tightrope twice before the New Year is upon us.

Elsewhere, another two players fell foul of the referee’s wrath in Gameweek 17. Liverpool’s Fabio Borini made an impression for all the wrong reasons against Arsenal at Anfield. Replacing Lazar Markovic midway through the second period, the Italian collected a pair of yellows in just 16 minutes and will be unavailable for Friday’s trip to Burnley.

Villa’s Gabby Agbonlahor was due to serve a three-match ban after being sent off for serious foul play during last Saturday’s home draw with United. Earlier this afternoon, the FA overturned that suspension and the forward is available for selection with immediate effect.

Remaining on the sidelines are Hull midfielder Tom Huddlestone (sitting out the second of a four-match suspension) and Villa’s Kieran Richardson, who is serving the second of a three-match ban this Friday.

Paul Lambert welcomes back Alan Hutton and Tom Cleverley, though, as the midlands outfit look to push on from the draw with United. Southampton trio Morgan Schneiderlin, Victor Wanyama and Florin Gardos are also available for selection as Ronald Koeman’s side head to Selhurst Park.

Mario Balotelli is back for Liverpool’s visit to Burnley after serving a one-match ban for his recent social media posts. The FA have revealed that they decided against dishing out a longer sentence due to the striker’s sincere and honest explanation.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

    Pantilimon (Fabianski)

    Baines / Zaba / Azpi

    Hazard / Sanchez / Silva / Siggy

    Bony (C) / Austin (VC) / Kane

Bench: Downing / Wisdom / Duff

    0FT / 3.2 ITB

Good to go? Tempted to go C or VC on Pantilimon because there is no clear scoring captain choice. Feel good about Panti's CS chances.

    front 8 are :
    Ameobi - catermole - yaya - haz - downing
    Bony - austin - rooney

I am about to sell catermole.

    A) catermole -> fab?
    B) catermole -> sterling ? ( original plan is to get fab after wc)
    C) if haz is out : catermole, haz -> sterling, fab? (And get haz on wc again)
    d) other ...
    What do you think?

For me, Hazard could get rested. I think getting Fabs is a great move. Had had him in my team the entire year and have loved it.

I do like C a lot. Think that could pay off very nicely and a great use of funds.

My team going into next week:

    Hart
    O'Shea - Zabaleta - Terry - (Wisdom) - (Colo)
    Fabs - Siggy - Sanchez - Milner - (Downing)
    Benteke - RVP (C) - Austin

Anyone disagree with how I'm playing it? Austin poor away but I think his form may show through for a goal at Arsenal.

Already made my transfer this week, want to sort out my midfield. Is a hit necessary anywhere?

I like Milner after Pelle said the strikers are out until January.

    Thought please!

Looks to be a strong team. You're brave going with Benteke in a poor Villa side. I know Milner is playing 'up front' for City but I'm not sure that he will get a lot of points. I get the feeling he is there to make a problem for defenders physically rather than score goals. I think Yaya and Silva will get the points. I think you have to back Austin after coming off a hatrick.

Apology for my reply fails. I think it's my phone's network that's causing problems.

    Re Hazard situation

I meant we don't have "able" replacements for Hazard. He has been so instrumental for us this season unlocking the opposition defenses & causing constant trouble of RBs. Jose is clearly not impressed with Schurrle's form & don't think against opponent like Westham he'll rest Hazard. If he's fit he starts IMO.

True that. He is too important for us. If he is fit Jose won't rest him. Hammers are a dangerous team this season.

Why Beats? Get something better, avoid that mass market stuff. I imagine you can find a good Audio Technica for a similar price that would be far superior, let alone numerous other brands. Go research here:

      http://www.head-fi.org

Be warned: far more posts there than here...but very good suggestions.

Correct, on the audiophile part, prolly correct on the geek part as well. They are excellent, as are many by Sony and Sennheiser. Forehead could do A LOT better with many models of these brands we both mention. We can all be sonic friends. And, if I put my L3000s on yer brain, you'd be one very happy geek.

Another idea forehead.HiFiMan. In your price range, the HE-300

I like this idea. Was just thinking what to do with Sanchez, but it's a tough move letting him go. Maybe a bit less painful if moved to Santi, but Sanchez could obviously start, continue his home form, and bury 2.

I was pushing for Baines captain earlier in the week due to safety of start. He is a great VC shout still on reflection imo. Sanchez c with Baines vc seems solid and a great compromise.

It's more for the solid vice captain. You don't want to end up with no captain because you gambled on hazard vc etc.

Baines has a good ceiling still.

If you've been unlucky enough to not have captain play, you don't want to gamble further and end up with two players not playing AND no captain.

This Kun news makes me think that wc time shoukd be as late as possible. Or maybe is playing it earlier keeping Kun just transfer away..?

I normally play at first instance but fancy a couple of juicy transfers this window.

Will play late as poss this year.

Silly. He would be an easy two transfers away in the form of downgrading a mid and upgrading a striker anyway. This reminds me of all those who were avoiding getting Alexis in because they were waiting to use their Arsenal mid spot on Walcott. Use your wildcard when you need it most.

What are you blabbing on about? You're claiming Chelsea have no other options to come in for haz.

If I was mour and he had a knock I wouldn't risk it. Sanchez is fine to play. He will start.

You've been banging on about haz for 4 pages now with no empirical evidence. Just your opinion. That's fine but don't expect everyone to agree with you.
