Frisking the Fixtures – Gameweek 26 – The Weak

We turn our attentions to the upcoming schedule this lunchtime and cast an eye over the next four-to-six Gameweeks. We begin by looking at the teams with tough fixtures to follow, with the bottom two bracing themselves for some testing times ahead.

Burnley

“frisking

Firmly ensconced in the bottom three ahead of tonight’s clash with United, Sean Dyche’s side face a tough task to climb to safety over the next few matches in light of a thoroughly evil schedule. The Clarets make their way to Chelsea, Liverpool and Southampton in the next six and with home encounters against City and Spurs also on the horizon, this leaves just the visit of Swansea as a possible source of points.

Over the last six Gameweeks, though, Dyche’s side have been one of the most consistent sides in the final third – scoring at least twice in five of those fixtures. Danny Ings and Ashley Barnes owners will surely be thinking twice now, though, whilst George Boyd looks confined to bench-warming duties for the foreseeable future.

Liverpool

“frisking

Last night’s thrilling 3-2 win over Tottenham extended the Reds’ unbeaten run to nine league matches since moving to a 3-4-2-1 system. Brendan Rodgers’ side have the form, then, but the fixtures are very much against them – Southampton, City, United and Arsenal in the next six may stall their quest for a top four finish.

With four clean sheets in the last five, though, the likes of Martin Skrtel and Alberto Moreno have thrived in their manager’s new formation, whilst Daniel Sturridge’s return to action has already harvested a goal and two assists in three appearances. It remains to be seen whether Raheem Sterling will be sidelined for any period of time after missing out against Spurs and his 30% ownership won’t hang about if his prognosis is pessimistic.

Leicester

“frisking

Nigel Pearson faces a tough task to arrest a run of four straight losses over the next few matches. Trips to Everton, City and Spurs in the next five, allied with a blank Gameweek 27, leaves only a home clash with Hull as reason for optimism at the King Power right now.

Their schedule could be subject to change, though. It’s possible that if Leicester are beaten by Villa in the FA Cup this weekend, they could –potentially- be handed a double Gameweek 28. The downside is that this would see them travel to the Etihad before facing Chelsea – a pair of fixtures that few, if any, Fantasy managers would be willing to invest in. Pearson’s decision to move to five at the back and bench Marcin Wasilewski ended a run of 15 straight starts for the cut-price Pole, though Jeffrey Schlupp continues to be fielded as an out of position prospect on the left wing. At 4.9, Riyad Mahrez is one to consider in the budget bracket and has offered plenty of threat in recent outings, though Pearson’s tinkering up top leaves us with no real options to consider.

Also Be Wary Of…

Crystal Palace
After this evening’s encounter with former club Newcastle is out of the road, Alan Pardew braces himself for a schedule that pits Palace against five of the current top ten in the next six Gameweeks.

The 2-1 home win over Spurs highlighted their form under the new man in charge and with three league wins in four, they’ll feel they can prevail against the likes of Arsenal, West Ham, Southampton, Stoke and City over that period. Jason Puncheon and Dwight Gayle have been subject to plenty of new investment on the back of their recent returns but with the likes of Yannick Bolasie back in the frame, rotation could start to kick in and many may feel that now is the time to bail on their Eagles’ assets.

Newcastle
John Carver has steadied the ship in recent weeks and earned four points from showdowns with Hull and Stoke. Unfortunately for the Magpies, the schedule takes a significant turn for the worse now – City, United, Everton, Arsenal and a trip to neighbours Sunderland await them in the next six, leaving just the visit of Villa as the one bright spot on the horizon.

With that run of fixtures in mind, it looks highly debatable whether Jack Colback can be expected to maintain the form that has served up three goals and two assists in his last six, whilst a defence that has registered a single clean sheet in 12 Gameweeks seems unlikely to improve any time soon.

Man United
The Red Devils go head-to-head with Burnley this evening on the back of one defeat in 14 Gameweeks but that record papers over the cracks. With Louis van Gaal tinkering with tactics and personnel all too often, United have lacked any sort of cohesion and have failed to take advantage of some excellent recent fixtures.

United may have the fourth best scoring record in the league but their main men are toiling. Robin van Persie is their top scorer with nine strikes yet has netted twice in his last six, whilst Wayne Rooney is second most impressive with eight goals, despite the fact he’s failed to produce any attacking returns in his previous six appearances. Considering that Angel di Maria has failed to score since Gameweek 7, it’s perhaps no surprise that David de Gea is their highest scoring FPL player, with 94 points. Showdowns against Swansea, Spurs and Liverpool in the next five affords the Spaniard the chance to earn points yet again as Van Gaal looks to keep his side’s bid for a fourth place finish intact.

I agree, Ospina's performance last 2 games is far from convincing and fully expect Szczesny to return to the starting 11.

This is how I'd want us to line up against Middlesbrough:

    ---------------------------Akpom--------------------------

    -------------------------Szczesny---------------------------

Middlesbrough a really good team, one of the best defence and top of there league.. Need a strong team they have players who can certainly take average

Theo and Ozil are gaining momentum and need to play. Akpom deserves a proper chance, not just 20 minutes. Perfect opportunity for Gabriel to make his debut, and Chambers, Szczesny and Gibbs to feature (they've missed out recently). Cazorla, on the other hand, looked like he needed a rest. Don't risk Alexis.

Is there anything fundamentally wrong with my team? Likely getting 5th red arrow in a row now.

    Foster Hamer
    Terry Bellerin PvA Jones Baird
    Haz Silva Sanchez Mane Boyd
    Aguero Kane Giroud

4.0 ITB so plenty to move around with.

I'm thinking about doing Bellerin/Baird -> Alderweireld soon and getting Eriksen in for Spurs DGW. Other than that I don't even know what to use my money on.

Sanchez is still a nice FPL prospect imo..

But it's only that, with an 11.3m price tag and with players like Ozil, Walcott, Giroud, Cazorla, Ramsey present alongside him in the pitch, I don't really see him getting all the shares of point, as he was often getting in their absence, and it is as simple as that I think.

I have opted for a much cheaper Ozil this week.
Made him captain, and I'm very happy and will keep him.

earlier in the season, i relied more on player stats and my eye for a player, this helped me, then as the season progressed i spent a large portion of time reading forums/twitter etc covering FPL which made me challenge my own thoughts and i've followed others as opposed to my views. This is a huge factor in my slump,

Think you've underestimated their defence a bit.

For example, they kept CS's against 3 of their next 5 in the reverse fixtures.

I thought I'd summarize my conclusions to what I've wasted the last 2 hours doing. In an attempt to move on from Alexis(C) and Defoe in for a hit, and trying to add some meaning to FA cup games this weekend given that my team decided not to compete in the competition, I've been researching the best way to use my last glimmer of hope to this season, my wildcard!

Given that I can have 3 Chelsea, Kane and Eriksen with a single hit, I don't see much value in wasting my WC on the upcoming DGW28 (and that's even if Leicester lose this weekend). Therefore I looked into future DGW opportunities.

The FA cup semi-finals take place on the 18th/19th April (GW33), thus cancelling those PL games for those teams and their opponents in GW33. As there are CL/EL games on the 22/23/24 April, they cannot simply be re-scheduled for the same GW. Therefore there will be blanks and doubles for these teams.

Due to European games and international breaks, the only available GW's for extra fixtures are 31,34 and 37, leaving these as the possible weeks for DGW's. I'd imagine the PL would want to avoid having games midweek in GW37 so the first two seem most likely (unless FA Cup replays push back fixtures).

So there will be DGW's for up to 8 teams coming up over the rest of the season (only Spurs, Newcastle, Everton and Burnley will definitely play in GW33). I'd suggest saving your WC if you have one and you could be rewarded with a late rise up the ranks. We'll know more on the identity of the teams involved after the FA cup games this weekend so something to keep an eye on if like me, your side is already out of the competition.

Disclaimer: This is all my workings from the last 2 hours, if you think there's something wrong, post something below.

Basically good. GW 37 has often been used before though and while bring a game forward is possible it is rare. GW 34 is the most likely solution.

It's quite advantageous actually because the fixtures shift for quite a few teams around GW 33. That's when I am planning to use my wildcard too.

      1. CABAYE4
        • 12 Years

        Yep GW34 definitely most likely.

Could end up being split like last season if FA replays are needed.

            Not for the semis.

But a QF replay would prevent a GW31 DGW, particularly problematic for Chelsea, who would then have two doubles GW34/37.

Another point I've just thought of is that it's possible (but unlikely) for Chelsea to have 2 blanks before any double

If Leicester win v Villa, then draw their QF, Chelsea would not be able to play them until GW34. If Man U also drew their cup QF, their GW33 couldn't be re-arranged till then either, leaving them with GW34 and 37 doubles.

Suddenly they could have blanks in GW27 and 33 : BLANK whu SOU hul STO qpr BLANK

      Looks very awkward.

I quite liked that post until the bit about ADM...then it turned into nonsense...

Everyone in the game to blank except ADM and Ivanovic. Especially Jones because I benched him for PVA.

      Mane: 1 assist
      Kun: 1 assist
      Oscar: 1 goal 1 assist
      Hazard: 1 goal

That's very specific - why not, say, 5 goals from Oscar? If you're dreaming, dream big!

Be careful what you dream of because I wanted Sanchez up front with Walcott in tow and it actually happended! Didn't turn out to well...

Silva to blank after doing Silva to Sanchez (C) (-4) last night. ADM and Jones returning would be great, but I'm not holding my breath.

Wisdom to start, no Southampton CS and nothing from ADM or Ings and I'm happy.

Just having Wisdom re established in the team and not needing to waste a transfer would be enough for me after a terrible yesterday.

Aiming at getting an Arsenal mid to go with Giroud, who to aim for:

    A) Ozil
    B) Wally

    And for one of:

    A) ADM
    B) Silva
    C) Fab
    D) Oscar

    Thanks 🙂

Right, so QPR and Spurs have a DGW in GW28, that's certain, right? Chelsea and Leceister also have a blank in GW27, so what would have to happen in order for Chelsea and Leceister to have a DGW in GW28 also?

What does BR do about Jordan Ibe ?....No doubting he was recalled as back up, but seems to be playing as well as anybody in the prem right now...apart from Harry of course....surely he won't get dropped again will he ?

he will play as much as Markovic who has seen a fair share of game time. He could play in Europa and get some very useful experience

Did he play RWB with Markovic more attacking last night?

Markovic has done pretty well of late, when Sterling returns, he's likely to return to RWB, no?

Not sure where he's listed as playing but from our point of view he's very much a Hazard or Wally type of player...always drifting into the box and enjoying a pop at goal. Very promising.

Where abouts do you think I sit?
I am on points with 6 including Hazard captain to go, if Wisdom doesn't play I have one point to come off the bench. I got a red last night, obviously, but what about tonight?
