Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 26

We cast an eye over the new injuries sustained during the weekend’s ten fixtures this evening. Problems mount for Palace up front, Newcastle’s concerns continue, whilst United’s misfiring Dutchman is set for ankle scans after Saturday’s loss at Swansea.

Aston Villa
Kieran Richardson was forced off during the first half of Saturday’s home loss to Stoke due to injury.

Crystal Palace
Fraizer Campbell was withdrawn during the Eagles’ home loss to Arsenal after picking up a hamstring problem. Marouane Chamakh failed to feature against his former club due to a similar complaint.

Liverpool
Mamadou Sakho missed today’s clash with Southampton due to a hip problem, the Reds’ official twitter feed has confirmed.

Man United
The Red Devils are sweating over the fitness of Robin van Persie after the Dutchman left the Liberty Stadium on crutches after sustaining an ankle injury Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Swansea. United are expected to know results of scans on the Dutchman by some point tomorrow.

Newcastle
Daryl Janmaat limped off with a groin problem during the Magpies’ 5-0 hammering at the Etihad on Saturday evening. Manager John Carver confirmed:

“He has got a tight groin. I don’t think he’s too serious at the moment, but it is tight and we took him off as a precaution.”

QPR
Niko Krancjar limped out of the R’s narrow loss at Hull on Saturday and was replaced by Armand Traore on 78 minutes.

Southampton
Steven Davis was replaced at the break during the Saints’ home encounter against Liverpool after picking up a knock.

Sunderland
Billy Jones missed the Black Cats’ goalless draw with West Brom due to injury.

Stoke
Erik Pieters was replaced with five minutes remaining of the weekend win at Villa due to injury.

West Ham
Carlton Cole was forced off due to injury during the Hammers’ draw at Spurs this afternoon.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Is Dawson for WestBrom worth picking?

Any chance of retrspoective action against Ashley Barnes?

Morning! Looking to replace Oscar with 9.7 to spend. Is Özil the obvious choice especially since I don't have Sanchez? I'll wait until Arsenal's CL game is over with anyway.

    2FT 1.4ITB

    Foster
    Kos Fonte Wollscheid Haidara
    ADM Silva Moses [9.7]
    Kun Giroud

    PVA Hazard Kane

Otherwise pretty happy with the team for this upcoming GW. Plan is to do ADM to Eriksen and PVA/Wolly to Spurs defender for the DGW.

Seems like Ozil is the most obvious choice. Sigurdsson could be a sneaky one week punt as well, and then move him or AdM on to Eriksen next week

      1. JariL
        • 9 Years
        9 years, 2 months ago

Yeah I was also considering a one week punt and then shifting for Eriksen, but Özil could be a good option for longer-term too, okay fixture this week (Everton at home) and GW28 could be a good time to let go of ADM (Spurs, Pool, City and Chelsea in the next 6).

And it feels weird that there are so many solid options to choose from Arsenal midfield ATM, but I have none 😀

        1. Shifty
          • 10 Years

True. I'm keeping AdM for one more GW, have other issues. But ugh so frustrating to own as a United fan. I've had a hard time owning Ozil in the past though. Extremely streaky for blanks and hauls.

Yeah I'm not entirely convinced on Özil's long-term prospects as a fantasy pick either. But he is in form, constantly in advanced positions and has some set-piece duties as well.

I agree. Oscar instead of Cazorla was certainly a strike of genius on my GW23 WC. Since then Oscar has scored 7 points compared to Cazorla's 31 😡

    Team for this gw...

    Foster
    PVA bellerin baird fonte
    AdM boyd Sanchez cazorla
    Defoe Aguero

    Myhill Terry haz kane

    Not sure what to do
    Save free transfer and pray?

    Bellerin to Rose
    Adm to erikson

A lot can happen in the next 2-3 GWs and when I plan transfers a few weeks ahead they rarely work out. I think Baird to Dawson would be a good option for this week. I don't think it's worth risking playing with 9.

I seem to be one of the lucky few with 2 FTs this week and no pressing issues:

    Panti
    Fonte - Jones - Bellerin - Haidara
    Sanchez - Cazorla - ADM - Moses
    Aguero - Defoe

    Bench: Haz, Kane, Terry

    2FT 0.1 itb

Wondering what to do with my transfer this week. Looking at Defoe + ADM -> Eriksen + Austin next week, but I'd still be able to do that for free using 1 this week. Perhaps a one week punt on a cheap striker other than Defoe? (Sakho, Berahino, Cisse etc.)

    What do you reckon?

    1. Shifty
      • 10 Years

I like the latter option. Cisse could be a good punt. Villa are crap. Plus Vlaar now suspended.

    Gtg?

    1. Shifty
      • 10 Years
      9 years, 2 months ago

      (c) would be your call obviously, but not sure if Ameobi will start - I own him as well. Not sure if Colback's suspension will have on the Newcastle midfield. But if have 2 FTs to spare, would spend one on Ameobi.

      1. Geordienufc1
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 2 months ago

Colback's suspension shouldn't affect ameobi's chances - they play in entirely different positions. I'd imagine either Ryan taylor or Mehdi abeid will replace Colback.

I don't think Ameobi will play. It's possible he could play if Cabella is still out, but they don't play in the same position (ideally) either, so that would just be carver experimenting.

        1. Shifty
          • 10 Years
          9 years, 2 months ago

Was thinking Abeid/Sissoko would move into Colback's role and free up a spot for Ameobi.

But yup, don't think he will play either now that Gouffran's back. Wasn't he just in the starting 11 while Gouffran was out?

Hopefully he gets some minutes, 1 point better than nothing.

          1. Geordienufc1
            • 10 Years
            9 years, 2 months ago

Tbh I'd rather him play than Gouffran, who is really not worth playing at all imo. I would be very disappointed if he shunted Sissoko back into a holding role given that he's been one of our only players whose looked good charging forward this season.

            1. Shifty
              • 10 Years
              9 years, 2 months ago

Sissoko has looked good powering forward but I really do think the reason Newcastle is struggling is because they rely so much on Sissoko...personally, he's just Newcastle's version of Valencia with abit more variety.

Hello DZ, been abit of a casual in recent weeks but back getting back to my FPL/FFS routines.

Seems like Wisdom, Ameobi and PVA are problems...2 FTs, which one should I shift first? Ideally like to keep 2 FTs for GW28.

    Pants
    Clyne Naughton PvA* Wisdom*
    Sanchez Cazorla AdM Ameobi*
    Aguero Giroud

Kane, Terry, Hazard + 0.1 banked

    Thanks!

Hey nabil, thanks am leaning toward that as well. At least PVA has some chance of starting. Wisdom seems like he's in cold storage. Considered Haidara but Dawson would be a better pick long term indeed.

I think you'd be seriously struggling without using your transfers tbh. I don't really see any of those 3 playing, and I don't think it's worth risking playing with 8 this week just to get a 2nd, probably rotation-prone DGWer next week.

Don't really see much on offer at ameobi's price with just 0.1 banked, plus you'd probably like to keep your 5th mid, who you usually won't need, cheap post this GW. Therefore I think Wisdom/PvA priorities for removal.

      1. NABIL - FPL otai

Cheers Geordie - good logic there. Would definitely be struggling abit...this PVA situation caught me completely off guard. As i said...been uber casual 🙂

Agree on focusing on Wisdom/PVA. Crap choices at that price bracket. I guess Haidara/Dawson are as good as any at the moment. Or the Hull fellas.

You and I have a similar problem . . . I also have PvA and Ameobi, and don't know what to do. My third problem is Moreno, but I'm hoping he'll play given Markovic was subbed off at half time and wasn't playing well.

Anyway, my gut instinct is to change Ameobi and leave PvA. I mean, Ameobi hasn't played a minute in the last three weeks. I was thinking of getting in Brady for him, but you haven't got enough in the bank for that. I mean who can you get for 4.4? Cork? Quinn?

I think you might be better off swapping out PvA as there's better value for 4.4 in defence.

      Just my thoughts!

Brady is a player I do like...have been monitoring him for awhile hoping he would nail himself to the starting 11. I could afford him with a downgrade from Wisdom to Haidara. Thoughts on that? Haidara has crap fixtures after GW27 though. Prob perma-bench.

Yeah, Newcastle's fixtures aren't great after next week. They also looked atrocious the other night . . . I've never seen so much empty space on a football pitch, every time a City player touched it they were in ten yards of space.

Hull might be a decent shout for a defender to replace Wisdom. The pro is that they have good fixtures (stk, SUN, lei) but the con is that he's always changing his backline. Bruce didn't play 60 minutes at the weekend, so if you go that route maybe McShane is a better bet. Always a risk though.

Dawson at WBA is much more nailed, so that's a safer option for getting numbers onto the pitch.

Thanks, well laid out pros/cons. I'm staying away from Hull as I don't rate their defence at all. Don't see any upside there.

Probably go with Dawson. Appreciate the thoughts HV! You're new to the site?

0.1 in the bank man, not much to work with. I would save one but that would mean playing with 9 for the week...given Ameobi and PVA have become seemingly nonstarters for the week.

I agree with others, Wisdom should be the first to go. I would keep Ameobi, the way Newcastle played this weekend and Colback being suspended and Cabella injured, I think Ameobi has a good chance of featuring either as a sub or even as a starter.

Whether to replace PVA is a tough choice IMO. I don't think he'll start since they kept a cleanie and are playing United away, but could feature as a sub again. Basically you'd have to replace him with someone with a great chance of CS. And I don't think we can say yet that PVA is out of favor for longer term. Compare that to the advantages of having 2FTs for DGW.... I might just keep PVA and cross my fingers.

Cheers Jaril - definitely spot on with the advantages of having 2 FTs for next week. I'm open to playing with 9 and hopefully 10 men this week...as the extra player others would have over me aren't likely to explode.

Thanks, great points from everyone. Plenty to mull over.

Hole for about 10 mins, then on the left when Soldado came on, then at CM when Chadli came on.

      3 positions in 45 minutes.

    Moreno Jones PVA Wasi

Need the first 3 to all play in order to field 11 this week. However I wouldn't be surprised if none of them start. 1 FT and 0.3 million in the bank. What do you reckon I should do?

    Let's talk about Dawson.

Is he the same player who used to take penalties for England U-21? If he is, any chance that he will given that role by Pulis?

Secondly, about his fixtures. Pretty decent in the next 10 imo (SOT avl STO mci QPR LEI cry LIV mun new) but then he doesn't rotate well with my Bellerin. Assuming most of are already on a CHE and a SOT defender, would you treat him as a steady 3rd defender or will you rotate him? I couldn't find a suitable partner to rotate him so far.

      Yep he's the same guy.

I'm probably getting him this week, he is somewhat of a bap repellent so far at RB though. He'll probably be my 4th defender and play the odd game. And I cant really see Berahino being taken off pens.

Highly considering him too, I wish I don't have 5.7m budget for replacement since it makes me become so indecisive as I'm tempted with Berty and Cresswell too!

Funny thing is Bera was in the U21 team too 😉

I have pretty much 6.1 for a replacement but I already have 3 big defenders. Tempted by Lescott however...

True that! In saying that, a defender on penalties is surely way too extravagant for a Pulis team 😉

Ah you remind me of that once-a-scoring defender. good call, might worth 0.6 over Dawson.

I have 3 biggie too (JT Clyne Jones), but I wouldn;t mind getting say Berty this week, and drop Jones in a few GWs..he's been useless. Wonder why I got him with my WC.

If I do get Dawson, he will be rotated with Naughton + PVA(?) until my next wildcard. Like you said, Clyne Terry are my 2 week-in-week-outers.

He rotates decently with Naughton - not Home-Away rotation but just based on opponent.
