Looking at my team for next gw and currently only have Kane in terms of dgw players think I might just leave it at that, Kane is enough right?

Do you have Silva/Aguero and or Sterling/Sturridge for their fixtures?

    45pts behind the top 10K

Since GW8 I have had a high of 24K and a low of 59K..currently at 32K.In other words I've gone nowhere in 20 weeks. Consistency is keeping me top in an average mini league, but what is that extra that I'm missing? Advice pls...

Getting the captain right more often and benching the right players are 2 things which are more down to luck than anything...

Example no 1: Walcott killing it tonight. 1% ownership.

Aguero (c) too is still less than 30% ownership...

I have convinced myself into Giroud --> Austin.

Now the major problem will be convincing myself to take Eriksen over Sterling. Both players are troll players for me, and whoever I don't have performs. 😀

I want Eriksen for the DGW but not a moment after that.

Spurs clean sheet odds for Swansea is 7/5 and I would guess somewhat the same for the QPR game. This would suggest a defender/Lloris should be good value?

Gotta pick the one who will play both. I still think that they have at best one clean sheet in those two games, and I don't really think they will keep a clean in either. Lots of great fixtures for other teams in GW28, I will happily go without a Spud defender.

By having one you put yourself in the position of getting 2 clean sheets (+ other potential attacking returns), so I guess having one would be the favourable decision, as also suggested by the odds. Lloris + Eriksen + Kane would be desirable am I right?

Getting Lloris is desirable, sure, but lot's of other factors to consider whether or not it's worth it to get him in. And also if you like to plump for a GK.

          1. Plymouth

Rose then? If he gets through tomorrow.. Seems like Ben Davies is quite out of favor, and even more after the performance against Fiorentina. After the game tomorrow PL will be Spurs only focus aswell.

Vertonghen or bust, I think. Again, I'm staying well clear, but I think he has by far the best chance of any of their back four of starting both games. Walker is nailed to a post but it's a big ask of any fullback to play three games in such short succession.

Does rank matter to you or is winning mini leagues enough?

Sort of yeah. But for example sometimes I will make transfers based on other mini leaguers despite what it might do to my overall rank.

Also, I mean do you care about finishing 100k+ as long as you win leagues?

It is. But for example the first time I played FPL I led my Ml by 100 going into the end of the season. Started taking 8 point hits for fun with no care for rank

Rank is everything. ML's are mere trifles, trinkets if you like, that are cast aside and soon forgot. Rank is tattoed on your arse and says Dave if you're not in the top 10k.

ML..I remember last season where I have not much chance getting 1st with 1 match left while my rival behind was quite close to me , I record his tv and cash itb and try to predict his transfer , and then try to 'neutralise' any potential differential from his side..and glad it worked out I maintained my 2nd .

These are the changes that have already happened. FPL stats got Sanchez, Sterling, Terry and Kane right and was moderately close with a couple of others I think (Dawson was in the 90s). Their calculations are not 100% spot on and they're currently over/underestimating a few. This might be wildcard related.

What is the definition of a sport? There are lots of pastimes which masquerade as sports but can gymnastics say really be classed as a sport and if so how about figure skating? Where does one begin and one end?

    1. The Light Knight
      • 12 Years

I think it's technically "competitive physical activity with entertainment value".
My own personal view is that the competitors have to be able to impact directly on the performance of the opposition

So this counts figure skating as a sport. Personally I believe there should be certaintay with a sport. Anything where a judging panel is involved introduces peoples opinions and I don't believe it should be.

Your suggestion would rule out most of athletics so although I agree impacting upon each other really that is what makes the sports entertaining.

I would side with those who consider a certain sport a sport. Those who disagree are simply wrong and are perhaps discriminating against a said sport. A lack of understanding and appreciation is usually to blame.

Perhaps. If it is defined as 'motor' sport then its deliberately defined and put into a separate category as regular sport. So then it is different.

One person cannnot make a definition on his own. It needs to be a universal name. In this case its e-sport. That is not 'sport'.

Not everything needs to be conveniently boxed into a certain set of rules. Why restrict yourself?

To me a sport should require physical demands at least.
So there should be an aspectwhere being faster, stronger, better stamina etc is an advantage. Hence. Snooker is not a sport.

Similarly, a sport should require human physicality primarily as oposed to machines etc. So tour de france where the man powers bike and bikes all quitesimilar. Thats sport. Whereas moto gp where engine and fuel power bike and bikes basicallymatter a lot, nlta sport.

Being male and aged around 20-35 should also be a natural advantage. If there is no reason a woman or an old man isnt on average at a natural disadvantage against a 25 year old man, then not a sport. So, darts, not a sport.

Also, animal based stuff like showjumping, horse racing etc. Where, like a motor bike, the horse powers things and matters loads and also jokeys can be 50 and still win, not a sport. Only sport to the animal those ones.

Skill aspect matters far less than fitness and physical aspect. Obviously there has to be competition whether individual or team but the key for a sport is basically the physical side. If i jog 10 miles, I beat a fat guy and Im out of breath. If i drive 10 miles, he might be faster and none of us break sweat. Driving is never sport. Ever.

Standing still like golf. Not a sport. Not really. Tom watson lead the open after 3 days about 9 years ago aged about 65. Thats a 95% technique and skill game. Very little is fitness or speed or stamina or strength. The fact john daly can win theopen, that makes golf not a sport.

Sliding down a hill on ice. Skill yes, sport no. Why? Skill, nothing else. Same with jumping into water from a board. Not a sport. Syncronised swimming? Not sport. Archery? Big darts, not sport. Dressage? Dancing horses? Not even a sport to the horse.

Sports are things like all running events, all cycling events, swimming races, games like football, basketball, rugby (games where speed, stamina etc matter).

Why though? I consider FPL sport. Why would it not be?

Any wacko and make their own definitions. But its all relative, you need a bit more support than yourself and a very small minority of wackos to determine speed reading a sport. It needs to be more universal than that.

But you said above to discriminate against a said sport is wrong and means lack of understanding. All sports have to start somewhere. Now your deciding where. Your applying a rule on numbers of wackos. Rules means there are reasons some arent sports. Hence my big post. You can have it both ways ryan. Come on. Admit dressage isnt a sport.

I'm not deciding anything. If something is universally called a sport then its a sport. If something is universally called an e-sport then its an e-sport. If something is universally called 'motor-sport' then its motor-sport.

They each have their own name and each is therefore different from each other.
                      Sport
                      E-Sport
                      Motor Sport

I think if its called something different from 'sport' then by its very own name, it is not a sport. This is a very simple concept.

Okay sport is the header. Think it safe to say there are different types of sport. I think you would agree that these sections of sports could have names such as athletics which then encompasses a whole range of track and field events. Why would motor sports or e sports not be a subsection such as this therefore coming under the umbrella of sport?

Because commonly they are considered a collective. Go back to the concept of 'Universal naming'

Universally Rugby and Football are completely different sports in their own right

E-sports is commonly known as a collective on its own

Motor Sport is the same I think.

Cycling would be no different if you were the only one doing it. Same with any running event. Therefore pointless and not a sport. Golf you don't even play at the same time as the other people and is not a sport.

Decent sized green for me (first in a while) with Aguero (C), Bellerin, Giroud and Sanchez to go! Hopefully I can hold it tomorrow 😛

Still confused about how Bertrand managed 2 BAPS with no goal involvement or CS, he could've had an assist as well if Pelle stuck his boot out a bit more on the goal line. Good differential now, though!

rooney is always supposed to do well right in a fixture like this? If there are haters its just being jealous. I would have got him in if it does not involve an -8

No need to worry. Those of us who truly understand the game would have thought that Rooney (C) wasn't a terrible idea. All in all....well done. I thought about getting him in when I heard RVP was out, but I couldn't quite swing it logically to fit my team without some pretty intense surgery to the squadron.

this. The ones who would have benefited from Rooney would have been the Costa/RVP/Falcao owners as a switch was logical.

For those with Kun, Giroud/Defoe and Kane, it was really a tough ask to get Rooney in with all that nonsense with Wisdom/PVA/Baird to sort.

PvA to hold his place now? I thought he played quite well yesterday and it seemed Sunderland only got broken down after the red card (although United did have some decent chances beforehand).

He played well because he didn't need to mark anyone in the first half. Come the second half Januzaj was all over him causing him all sorts of problems.

I suppose some would say he was 'due' a blank against Leicester (one of the two blanks)...

All a matter of probability. If a player averages 1 assist per home game over numerous home games then goes on a run of blanks, then he is due.

Sorry, its actually 28 out of 30.

        • 10 Years

0.94 Goals+Assists = essentially 'due' every game regardless of what's gone before.

Too simple my friend. The law of averages means a sample should be taken over a run of games, not just one.

            • 10 Years
            9 years, 2 months ago

?? My sample is 31 games and that sample says he gets close enough to a goal/assist every game.

Yes, but you talk about due every game. It should be more general than that. You could say that for every blank in succession he becomes more due? TBF there are other variables such as statistical backing, positioning etc.

C'mon now, are you suggesting stats cannot be used to suggest imminent returns? is the explosion imminent table useless?

Throw in other variables such as player position (more or less likely to get assists/goals, or the same)

                  History of returns and averages.

Put all these factors together and I think its reasonable to come to some understanding about 'due'. I'm not talking about flipping a coin here.

                    • 10 Years
                    9 years, 2 months ago

The goals imminent list is always just a subset of players who have had 10+ shots recently, but havent scored more than one. If you compare them to the other subset of players with 10+ shots in the last 4 but have scored 2+ there is no demonstrable difference in the two groups next performances. At all.

The only thing the list is good for is that they are usually differentials in FPL as their good production is flying under the table.

                        9 years, 2 months ago

The only thing that I find demonstrably effects "due" is coming off a run of hard fixtures into some easy ones.

Sorry writing this in parts as things come to me.

Yeah. I agree. I can't really complain, as the GW is not yet over and I have actually been on a pretty good run lately. I've just never known a season to be so....what's the word....ornery! It's pure ridiculousness, I say. How does ADM get yanked at halftime without an injury? How does Martin Atkinson miss an obvious penalty that would have rewarded two of my players (Ivanovic/Hazard)? .........the list goes on 🙂

Not really seeing any obvious alternative to what you've picked Balders, almost a normal FPL week in that respect. You've got 3 defenders on bench but only need 2 to cover the 2 gw1ers but I'd take 3 incase 1 doesn't start and there's not many options on your unused bench.
Decisions are Zamora & who you captain in matchday 2 but most of us are in same situation I guess.
Henderson in for Boyd ait may between him & Downing if Walcott doesn't start.
Not much help as you've got it covered. 🙂

Thank you! done Boyd -> Hendo. Im seeing a big red arrow here with this "normal FPL week" team, missing out on DGW big time 🙁

DGWers have there own risk in this, won't be playing Giroud & possibly not Costa to go with Austin & Kane - could backfire big time.
I enjoy the game but this week could be painful.
