Suspensions

The Suspension Tightrope – Gameweek 28

Three players tumbled off the Suspension Tightrope in Gameweek 28’s midweek fixtures, having picked up their 10th yellows of the campaign. Alan Hutton, Gareth Barry and Lee Cattermole will sit out their side’s next two matches as a result.

Hutton will be sidelined for the Villains’ FA cup quarter-final clash against the Baggies this weekend and the Gameweek 29 trip to Sunderland. Barry misses Everton’s home tie against Newcastle and a visit to Loftus Road, while Cattermole sits in the stands as the Black Cats welcome Aston Villa to the Stadium of Light and travel to West Ham in their next two.

On April 12, the requisite number of cumulative yellows that warrants a ban will increase to 15. Until that date, players resting on nine yellows will have to time their tackles to perfection. Swansea’s Neil Taylor and Stoke’s Phil Bardsley were joined by Cesc Fabregas, Ciaran Clark and Seb Larsson in the precarious nine club this week. Fabregas’ 30.1% ownership will doubtless be wincing each time the Spanish playmaker attempts a challenge in Chelsea’s next four ties (SOU, hul, STO, qpr) before the cut-off date.

With regards to players currently serving suspensions, Joey Barton and Mile Jedinak sat out the first of their respective three and four-match bans for violent conduct. The QPR midfielder misses further encounters with Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace, while the Eagles captain won’t be available until Gameweek 32.

In terms of those back in contention, Glenn Murray returns for Palace after serving his one-match ban during their 1-0 defeat to Southampton. In addition, Nemanja Matic, Jack Colback and Morgan Amalfitano also fulfilled their obligations, with the former expected to be fit for the Blues’ next league encounter, despite picking up a minor injury during his Capital One Cup celebrations. Adam Johnson, meanwhile, has been suspended by Sunderland pending the results of a police investigation into off-field allegations.

Although not cautioned during the match, Jonny Evans and Papiss Cisse could face lengthy suspensions after appearing to spit at each other during Manchester United’s visit to St James’ Park. The FIFA rules stipulate that any player guilty of spitting at an opponent should sit out his club’s next six matches in all competitions. Reports in the local press suggest that Cisse could be facing a seven-match ban if found guilty, given that he has already been suspended for violent conduct earlier in the season.

Discussing the matter with the Newcastle website, Cisse has acknowledged his part in the incident as he awaits an announcement from the FA:

”I have apologies to make to a lot of people today. Firstly to my teammates and to our supporters, secondly to Jonny Evans, and thirdly to every football fan who saw the incident between myself and Jonny. I reacted to something I found very unpleasant. Sometimes it is hard not to react, particularly in the heat of the moment.”

Evans, however, released a statement on the United website vehemently denying the accusations, going on to say:

“Having woken up this morning I am shocked to have seen the media coverage from last night’s match. I would like to make it clear that I did not spit at Papiss Cisse. I was totally unaware of any spitting incident and had assumed that the issue at the time was with the challenge and his attempted retaliation to the tackle from the floor. During the game Papiss Cisse and I spoke about the incident and it is clear by my reaction in the television footage that I was totally surprised by any suggestion of spitting. It is not in my character or in my nature to spit at anybody nor is it something I have ever done or would ever do. It is certainly not something that I did last night.”

Why I believe you should hold your transfer this week until Monday night..........

I don't know if this has alread been mentioned but if Man Utd v Arsenal in the FA Cup ends in a draw on Monday (9th March) when would the replay be ?

If the other FA Cup games end in a draw then they would play the replay the following midweek on either Tues 17th or Weds 18th as they are all out of European Competition however that option is not available to Arsenal as they play Monaco on Weds 18th.

There is no availability to play midweek the following week on the 24th or 25th as there are Euro Qualifiers on Friday 27th and more Internationals the following midweek.

The Premier League then restarts on Saturday 4th April and also has fixtures on the 11th April
The FA Cup Semi Final's will 100% held on Saturday 18th April and Sunday 19th April at Wembley that is not in doubt.

So the only possible date in the event a replay is needed would be midweek on Tuesday 7th or Wednesday 8th April and that would only leave about 10 days for all the ticketing and more importantly marketing arrangements for an FA Cup Semi Final at Wembley, one of the FA's biggest commercial money spinners.

Realistic ? Possibly but I don't think so. We already know that the FA Cup will always take priority over league games and personally I think the FA will want it all done and dusted before the International break.

Nope, I would wager that if Man U v Arsenal ends in a draw on Monday night then the replay would instead take place on Saturday 21st March or Sunday 22nd March and so would postpone both Newcastle v Arsenal and Liverpool vs Man Utd until later in the season and leave panic galore in GW 30.

I don't know about you but I am absolutely praying for a draw on Monday night, nothing like a bit of chaos to allow the more astute amongst us to climb the ranks............

      😯

Surely there is a way to condense all this information into simpler terms?
      Please clarify if I'm mistaken.

Man U vs Arsenal Draw on Monday March 9th means possible replay on Sat/Sun March 21-22

In turn, this would produce a blank GW30 for

      Liverpool vs Man U
      Newcastle vs Arsenal

and a possible DGW on ?????

      Did I get that right?

I had a look at past seasons and in 12/13, Chelsea-Man U played a replay on 1st April and Chelsea played their semi on the 14th without any issues.

About the same time frame as if they played on the 7th and 19th so I can't see why there would be any issues this time.

There was an odd tackle, some handbags where neither play quite managed to kick each other. Then Evans spat at him, then Cisse spat back, then they yelled at each other for a bit.

Ban them both or neither of them.

Not PvA at least, Jones the most expensive and is a under threat and even if he starts, I can't see him keeping a cleanie in the next two at least. That said, Yun is mediocre as is the rest of the QPR backline and realistically don't expect a cleanie any time soon.

Not the best like for like transfer though as Zouma is also under threat and it doesn't seem you have a backline stable enough to afford a luxury like him at current (trust me, look at my backline)

      Jones to Naughton/Dawson?
      Then Yun to Ivan/Terry? Possible?
Do you have Saints defense or Bellerin?

Hi folks only just saw match of day highlights now from last night.
One question ,which has probably been talked to death already, is the assist for Henderson goal. Coutinho took a shot and deflected into his path and Henderson scored but no assist.
Something similar happened in southampton match, ward prowse shot saved by speroni and mane scored.
Is it because ward prowse shot was saved by goalkeeper as opposed to deflected shot off a defender from Coutinho that one got the assist and the other didn't?
And sorry again if this was talked about last night.

    Current team:

    Pantilimon - Myhill
    Terry - PvA - Bellerin - Bruce - Wisdom
    Silva - Ozil - Cazorla - Eriksen - Wanyama
    Aguero - Sturridge - Kane

Need to improve both mid and def. He has Hazard, Sanchez, Sterling, Fabregas, Costa.

    1. Who to bench?

    2. Who to transfer?

    3. Who to captain?

    Terry - Dawson - Clyne - Kosc - Rose

    Hazard - Cazorla - Sterling - Eriksen - Boyd

    Aguero - Giroud - Kane
