The ScoutCast – Episode 153 – March

Simon March, aka Dufflinks, has been hanging around these pages since August 2011. A veteran of six Fantasy Premier League seasons, this campaign started more casual than ever, with Simon resigned to snatching the occasional live match from the other side of the world.

Against the odds, by Boxing Day he was fourth in the world. Six weeks ago, he reached the summit. As you read this, Simon sits on top of the FPL world by 30 points with his Wildcard still tucked away in his pocket and the whole Fantasy Football Scout community behind him. No pressure.

With Granville absent with a hangover from a mid-life stag do and another United disappointment, this week’s ScoutCast is dedicated to Simon’s story, as he wakes in the early hours to join Jonty and myself for a special edition.

We overcome countless gremlins to discuss how Simon gets by on rations of four live matches a season, how he can recall every point hit he’s ever taken and how one lucky cat may just hold the secret to his success over the remaining ten Gameweeks.

We end this episode with a shout-out to community legend, Doosra – get well soon Doos.

We’ve included a fully edited version of the ScoutCast on iTunes and via this link or the player below.

If you want to see Simon, myself, Jonty and the lucky cat in person, you can view the full un-edited Hangout movie below. Be warned – it really is a “warts and all” production.

Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel if you want to get an alert for next week’s Hangout and future live episodes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Picked wrong defs from Arsenal and Chelsea. Thoughts about using 2 FTs before dgw for:

    Zouma & Kos -> Terry & Bellerin

or hope and pray that Zouma gets 2 starts in a row.

Last call for help here, signing off for the weekend unfortunately.

Chasing a gap of 50 in my ML...

Captain Rooney, Kane, Puncheon or Ozil? And why?

    Thanks in advance!

eek. Rooney would be the ulti differential.

Kane a safer pick - Smalling going to have such a hard time with Kane.

Puncheon abit too punty. I can't trust Ozil with captaincy, just isn't captaincy material for me.

I want to bring in Silva (rival has him and I have a sizeable lead, I think this transfer will seal my mini-league). I am going to make two transfers this week and I need to make 1.2m savings in transfer 2.

    1. Eriksen to Silva

    2. Is more difficult my options:
    A. Downgrade Jones to a 4m player (possible Yun)
    B. Downgrade Puncheon to a 4.4m (not sure of many who start).
    C. Downgrade Giroud to Austin (I have Sanchez but don't want to have to make this transfer)

    Thoughts? Suggestions?

At this stage of the season you need to concentrate on distilling as much £ into your key players. If you feel you HAVE to make 2 transfers, I'd do A, but ERiksen looks good from next week.

Difficult to say without knowing your team. I assume Puncheon is your 5th mid and you have Aguero, Giroud, Kane up front?

In that case I'd go B with either Cork or Ameobi.

    Morning,

    I have 6.6m for a defender, who should I go for;

    A. Zabaleta
    B. Cahill
    C. Azpilicueta

Thinking it has to be one of the Chelsea players due to the DGW?

    Rest of the team;

    Foster/Kruk

    Clyne - Wollscheid - PVA - Yun

    Sanchez - Hazard - Sterling - Boyd - Eriksen

    Giroud - Kane - Aguero

I take your point, but at this stage of the season everyone has a chance of rotation, I would say any of those three will play at least 8/10 games remaining now?

Neither appeal tbh. PVA (does he even start nowadays?) and Walters (not heavy enough) don't make much sense.

Silva in would still have to be for a hit next week 🙂 likely to just ignore Silva and hope the rest of my team pull their weight in the mean time.

Considering Bertrand > Terry this week, Dawson > Alde next for free. and just hang on Santi. Becoming a differential (maybe crap one) as the days go by.

5.5 on Clyne, 5.7 on Bertrand. Sold Terry for Bertrand before the blank as a 2 GW punt 🙂 5 points ahead so I can't complain too much.

The plan was always to reverse the transfer in GW29/30 as I'm leading my ML with most owning 1 CHE def.

Thanks, guess that's the sensible thing to do. And Sunderland's got a pair of nice fixtures, as well.

    Krul | Wollscheid | Clyne | Boyd

    1 FT & 1.6 ITB

    C. start Wollscheid and bench Vertonghen (1st sub)

I guess D means C? I would do B, 0.9 could come in very handy and JT can kick in any time (saw that before already)

Yes.. D & C are same with different player to start.. 0.9 is a lot considering my team value..

    3 out of

    A Wollscheid
    B Bellerin
    C Lescott
    D Rose
    E Fonte

    Captain...

    1 Aguero

BC for sure and then Rose over Wolly slightly for attacking returns so BCD
I have the same captaincy choice problem, will prob go Silva but it's a tough choice. Flip a coin if you must

I know Soton are good defensively, but Chelsea will be very hungry. If they can get a goal quickly, Soton will have to attack too.

Into the top 500 now! This is getting serious!!

1FT and 3.6 ITB. Thinking of sorting my defence.

    a) Hutton > Ivan
    b) SAVE FT

    Krul Elliot
Bellerin Rose Van Aanholt Naughton Hutton
    Silva Hazard Sanchez Eriksen Walters
    Aguero Austin Kane

Only 3 other players have achieved this feat.
