PlayON Picks – Gameweek 29

Our Friday lunchtime analysis of the PlayON Player Price List arrives once again. As always, we offer a couple of picks per position: one essential weekend target and a left-field alternative for your consideration.

PlayON have extended their deadline for submitting teams so you can now tinker with your starting XI right up until the first kick-off each week – tomorrow that’s 12.45pm, when Crystal Palace welcome QPR to Selhurst Park.

Goalkeepers – Costel Pantilimon
With uncertainty surrounding the Sunderland defence, we’ve opted for the security of starts offered by the big Romanian. Despite registering a single shut-out in four, the 7.3m-priced Pantilimon has still produced 1200+ points in each of his appearances over that period due to his propensity for delivering save points – owned by 9% of PlayON managers, he now plays host to an Aston Villa side that has failed to score in their last six road trips. Our essential goalkeeper is Ben Foster at home to Stoke. The Baggies kept three consecutive clean sheets before the 2-1 away loss against Villa and despite the defeat, Foster still scored 950 points with five saves in that match. Available for 6.5m, he is currently the most popular keeper for the Gameweek, with 14% ownership in PlayON.

Defenders – Jeffrey Schlupp
Leicester’s out-of-position defender gets the nod for the home encounter with Hull. Schlupp’s berth on the left of Nigel Pearson’s midfield has already served up four goals in all competitions this term and with the Tigers netting once in their last four road trips, he looks a solid option for points at both ends of the pitch. Owned by 7% of PlayON managers, the Ghana international sets you back just 6.7m. We also opt for Scott Dann (7.1m.) as Palace entertain QPR at Selhurst Park. The centre-half recently scored his second of the season and has benefitted from Alan Pardew’s focus on set-pieces – Dann has registered more touches inside the box than any defender since the new manager took charge. Add to that his 45 clearances in six matches (worth 25 points each in PlayON) and the 12%-owned Dann could be in the points against an R’s attack that have already failed to score against their weekend opponents earlier in the season.

Midfielders -Jason Puncheon
The 8.5m-priced midfielder has been playing more centrally recently for Alan Pardew’s side and is capable of impressive scores, as demonstrated in the 3-1 win at West Ham, in which he assisted all three goals. At home to a QPR side that have conceded at least twice goals in 11 of their 13 road trips, the 34%-owned Puncheon could be instrumental again for the Eagles. Our essential midfielder is David Silva, as City make their way to Burnley. Coming in at 13.1m this week, he’s racked up four goals and a pair of assists in the last six Gameweeks, averaging almost 1900 points per appearance over that period. Up against a defence with a single shut-out in 17 league outings, his relentless form looks likely to continue – it’s no surprise to see he currently sits in over 49% of PlayON sides heading into the weekend.

Forwards – Saido Berahino
The West Brom frontman bagged his twelfth strike of the season in the 2-1 loss to Aston Villa last time out and is expected to shrug off a knock in time to face Stoke tomorrow afternoon. Available for just 8.9m and owned by 9% of Fantasy managers, Berahino welcomes the Potters to the Hawthorns in excellent form – he’s scored in three of the last four now and has fired 11 shots on target (worth 200 points in the PlayON scoring matrix) in his last nine matches. With Silva on board in midfield, we’ve decided to overlook Sergio Aguero as our essential striker and instead turn to Wayne Rooney (13.7m) after his goal against Arsenal in the FA Cup. Having netted four times in the last five matches in all competitions, the 15%-owned Man United skipper seems to be in the midst of one of his scoring streaks ahead of the visit of a Spurs defence with a single clean sheet in nine. Rooney has scored nine of his ten league goals this season at Old Trafford and will be desperate for a response after Monday’s disappointing cup exit to Arsenal.

Only 3 points between me and my rival for our €100 mini league...
Lucky son-of-a-britches is running me close this year.

    Me:
    Panti
    Jagielka - Zouma - Bertrand
    Hazard - Ozil - Henderson - Cazorla
    Kane - Aguero - Sturridge
    (Foster - Clyne - Fonte - Boyd)

    Him:
    Lloris - FOSTER
    Yoshida - Yun - Dawson - Williamson - O'Shea
    HAZARD - Silva - Eriksen - Sanchez - Walters
    KANE - AGUERO - Austin

    Which would ya prefer? 😀

Best value defenders in the game, all cheaper than Chelsea and only marginally behind on total points, plus I know I'll never want a Saints attacker so it's been an easy way to sort out my defence for the last 10 weeks.

            Last week was nice.. [ 6, 6, 8 ]

They've 3 clean sheets in the last 5 weeks, and I've had at least 2 of them on the pitch the whole time (would have had 3 but Bertrand was suspended)

There's more of a chance of Saints keeping one clean sheet than 3 budget defenders all keeping clean sheets, so some weeks its good, others its bad, but it works out well in the long run with the extra money it gives me for the rest of the team from not owning Ivan.
This week I'll only play one of them (hopefully) but then next week its Burnley at home..

    Brunt requests personal hearing

Midfielder was charged by FA on Monday

CHRIS Brunt has requested a personal hearing after being charged by The Football Association.

The midfielder will continue to be available for selection, including tomorrow’s Barclays Premier League clash against Stoke, until a date for the hearing is finalised.

    Brunt has accepted the charge.

The 30-year-old is alleged to have used abusive and/or insulting words and/or behaviour towards a Match Official, in or around the tunnel area after the end of Albion’s FA Cup quarter-final tie at Aston Villa on Saturday, March 7.

    B) Play Wolly (wba)
    C) Transfer PvA out to Zouma (SOT) / Bellerin (WHU) etc (FT)

    cheers

Wolly will either play full match or won't play at all. my guess is he won't make it. groin usually takes longer to heal.
PvA would be a perfect option if he starts, but that's far from guaranteed.
Risk with him is that if his not staring then he will defo get a cameo, which is the worst.

Hey folks, it's been a long time!

Anyone considering captaining Sanchez this weekend? I know he had a barren spell but if you ignore that then a home fixture vs. West Ham for an explosive player is as good a prospect as any captain this week! Many will go with Aguero but Sanchez could be a great differential.

        true, this

also, Alexis has lost a lot of set pieces to Ozil/Cazorla... so you essentially rely on goals for points, no more assists from corners/FKs

I'm very tempted... but I will probably go Kun and take more risks later in the season

He is a nice pick! but his barren spell started when Ozil returned and if you see Ozil's Avg Position he plays quite forward with Giroud which leads to Sanchez also doing some defending....

But he could return to form with this match..

Indeed, Özil playing and changing his role is the worry. I haven't watched any matches though

He's playing differently to how he was playing when he was raking in the points though, he's nowhere near as much of a focal point to the team.

Basically Ozil, Giroud, Ramsey and Walcott all dent Sanchez's appeal because he ends up playing further back in midfield to become a creator and a link between the mids and attack when they're up to their full compliment.

Good for Giroud though I bet, unless of course one of Sanchez/Walcott play in the striker position

I'm going Sanchez. Aguero less likely to see 90 and West Hams back four looks suspect. Now is not the time to follow the heard imo

Seems to be a common thought that his days of being a big hitter are over... I guess the question that leaves us with is this:

If we won't consider captaining an 11m+ mid in a favourable home game, why is he in our teams?

He's not in our teams, you can get Ozil for over 2m cheaper 😉

He's still not widely owned in the top 10k?

He probably is, but more-so out of fear because everyone owns him. He's not doing the top 10k any favours recently anyway.

He's overpriced these days, but some still believe that he's worth paying extra money for because he's "explosive" but with only 5 goals and 5 assists in the last 17 GWs, it just doesn't sound like it's worth much more than Hazard / Ozil / Silva to me.

Yaya to Silva for free - no brainer, right?

      Pants (Foster)
      Kosc PvA Dawson (Bertrand) (Bairdinho)
      Sanchez Hazatrick Eriksen Yaya (Boydinho)
      Kun Kane Austinho

it raises 1.0 of extra cash that can be used for a Chelsea defender

Who to bench? Here's how I have them set now.

        Panti (Hamer)
        Zouma Wolly Bruce (Clyne Cresswell)
        Hazard Sanchez Moses Silva (Ericksen)
        Aguero Kane Giroud

So Moses or Ericksen? I think Moses has the fixture and form now, right?
Clybe or Cresswell over Bruce? Gotta think Hull can't keep a clean sheet away to Leister, but which of my full backs is more likely to get in the points away to Arsenal and Chelsea?
