The Big Numbers – Gameweek 30

We delve into the Gameweek 30 data this evening in our first members article of the international break. Our attentions turn to Villa and QPR’s in-form assets ahead of the double, whilst we also analyse City, United and Liverpool midfielders and take a look at Swansea and Palace’s lone frontmen.

Is it too late for 12th choice left back Bertrand to get in the squad?

How he's been left out is beyond me. On this seasons form, he should be 1st pick.

Just because he is part of the best defence, does not make him the best LB for England though. The selected LB's all have more attacking returns than Bert(minute adjusted)

Primary role of a defender is to defend though. Bertrand and Clyne have been superb this season, in both defending and attacking. Both are very attacking.

Was genuinely surprised not to see him called up, and then to see Baines and Gibbs ahead of him.
Baines has been injured for lots of the season and Gibbs isn't playing first team football.

Used to be, but now fullbacks are wingers more and more.
I'd put Saints defence down to the system than the individual defenders. England won't be playing a Schneiderlin/Wanyama shield.
Baines has good attacking returns while playing in a bad defensive system - does that mean you discard him from the squad despite him being there since Roy took over? Agreed on Gibbs though

For me, the two I'd have picked are Bertrand (100% on merit) and Baines I guess, he provides the experience.
England will have Carrick / Hendo as a defensive shield.

Yeah, toss up between Rose and Bert for me. Probably would have gone Bert to have the relationship with Clyne as you say

*shudders at the thought of Carrick/Hendo being the shield vs anyone other than Lithuania*

Meh, wouldn't worry me to much to be fair.
Hendo is having a great season, although He might be playing further forward if I think about it.

And Carrick, well I rate the guy. Think when he plays, United look loads better. Does the simple things well, as they say.

Rate both of them, however just not as defensive midfielders. Wanyama/Schneiderlin is mostly destructive with energy to get up the pitch. Hendo is basically box to box, while Carrick sits and plays but has never really been one to mix it. They might work well in a good attacking style, but it is England.... 😉

Got Fonte and Bertrand and no Swansea defenders. Get Davis or Fabianski? With Fabianski it leaves a spot open for Mane. But with K. Davis I save money and can save even more by doing Fonte>Naughton down the road. Around 2M right there.

Very unlikely. Can't happen without agreement from Bournemouth and special dispensation from FIFA which would only be given in an extreme emergency (i.e. no GKs left available at the club).

Southampton according to rule 6.6.3 can recall Boruc BUT apparently he didn't leave on a good note with the manager. And his contract runs out at the end of the season so he may not want to come back.

So the consensus among fans is that Boruc won't be recalled because of his relationship with the manager and fans.

Koeman certainly had enough faith with K. Davis letting Boruc go out on loan.

Only situation that might make it happen is if Bournemouth get early promotion without any playoff games and he is eligible for the Saint's last three games. I'm sure if K. Davis is doing fine they won't change anything.

So essentially K. Davis isn't 100% safe but overall is a safe pick.

      Swansealona

Swansea are a decent side defensively. Not sure about the Sigurdsson love.
Not confident about him with Bony gone.

Since it's so quiet I'm going to go ahead and ask for a RMT:

    Myhill
    Terry, Bertrand, Schlupp
    Phillips, Eriksen, Hazard, Cazorla
    Kane, Aguero, Giroud

    (Lloris, Mane, PVA, Bellerin)

Considering selling either PVA or Bellerin and benching Bertrand, but not sure yet.

Pretty set on Myhill in goal.

If I replace PVA or Bellerin then their replacement has to play and I can't see myself benching Terry. You think Bertrand away at Everton is better than Schlupp home to West Ham?

surely. I think Chelsea and Soton defenders should be played just about every week. especially bertrand and clyne who have attacking threat

Adrian is a decent punt at keeper too. Only City (A) is his hard fixture for the rest of the year.

    panti foster
    terry clyne alderweireld pva dawson
    hazard silva eriksen downing boyd
    aguero kane austin

1FT, 1m in the bank and a WC to spare

anything worth a FT this week or should I save so I have two next week?

Yes. I am getting Davies, although it takes up my third Southampton spot so I cannot get Mane. Still, Saints are a free-scoring side so I'm not too concerned. Their goals have dried up.

      Pros:

      -4.4M
      -Good fixtures
      -No blanks
-Southampton don't let many shots on target

      Cons:

-Rusty. At 38 years old he doesn't look as agile (IMO)
-We don't know if he'll have a positive or negative affect on the defence
-Very low chance Boruc could come back for the last three games

Considering getting rid of aguero for Austin or benteke cus it seems the only way I can get a dgw player. Feels more then a bit dodgy though. Anyone else have a similar decision?

    Tough one:

    a) Benteke (C)
