Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Monday

The final match of Gameweek 32 arrives this evening as Liverpool entertain struggling Newcastle at Anfield. Brendan Rodgers’ side are reeling from back-to-back losses against United and Arsenal have all but ended their Champions League hopes, though the Reds will be looking to build on their midweek cup win at Blackburn.

Philippe Coutinho will be hoping to add to his Ewood Park winner and improve upon a run which has harvested a single assist in the last four Gameweeks. Jordan Henderson has struck in four of the last five league fixtures and is the Merseysiders’ form man as Fantasy managers are afforded the chance to scout their assets ahead of double Gameweek 34. Elsewhere for the home side, Raheem Sterling will be looking to return to form against a defence with just two shut-outs in the last 19 Gameweeks – he seems poised to start up front after Daniel Sturridge was ruled out with yet another injury.

John Carver’s side arrive on the back of a four-match losing streak that has seen them score a single goal. With Papiss Cisse still suspended, the Magpies look likely to struggle again and with injuries hitting hard at the back, there’s been little on offer to grab our attentions on Tyneside. With four home fixtures in the final six, in addition to trips to Leicester and QPR, the upcoming schedule suggests Carver’s men could bring in the points if they can start performing.

    Panti*

    Terry, Lescott, Toby

    Moses^ Eriksen, Mane, Hazard

    Kun(c) Kane, Berahino

    Mannone* Sanchez* Kos* Naughton^

    2 FTs 1.7 ITB * = blank, ^ = fixture but injured

    a) Panti and Sanchez to Howard and Silva
    b) Kos and Sanchez to Baines and Silva and bench Lescott
    c) all 3 moves for -4

A seems the most logical, but with WBA's defensive form and Palace's attacking form I'm not so sure. Plus there's the whole transfer on a keeper thing

I find it ironic how Utd have so much debt yet they are allowed to spend so much whereas City, who have financial backing, get punished.

Sure...you can argue Utd gain their revenue but it's from sponsors. They get their high sponsorship deals because they have a large fanbase...something City will struggle to achieve unless they can spend.

Financial fairplay should be more clear.

    1. copps
      • 12 Years
      9 years, 26 days ago

their income is huge, they are allowed to spend what they earn. i do think they should not be allowed to be in such debt though

      1. Klopp's Kids
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 26 days ago

But City can't reach the level our earning because they don't have the same fanbase, therefore they get lower sponsorship deals. So how are they ever supposed to be a top club? Sounds unfair to me.

    2. The Machine
      • 10 Years

I hate united as much as city but there is nothing wrong with being rewarded for a big fan base which is a result of years of well earned success

I don't know the nitty gritty but I'm sure there are still pre-payment penalties and the like, but with all the sponsor deals alone, the debt is more than manageable.

it's an after-thought at this point.

    4. Long Juan Silva
      • 9 Years

Agree. I do think there needs to be some laws against overspending, but allowing spending based on how much revenue a club can make is wrong. Only success (and thus history) can get you more fans (and thus revenue) and you need to spend money to get that. It just maintains the big clubs forever being big and the small ones with little chance of growing.

Maybe spending caps should be universal?

They are owned by debt. It's called Private equity, for example you can own a table 30% by equity and 70% by a loan. The debt when the glazers came wasn't debt as most would think. Man United wasn't in debt it is now though

United didn't accrue the debt from overspending, they accrued it because some shysters were allowed to buy the club without putting in any of their own money and offloaded the debt onto the club.

Thinking getting Sanchez out for a punt but Eriksen is a problem now. No Lpool is a problem as well

Moreno goes from 8 pts to 5 points with an orange flag in the space of a few minutes.

A blatant penalty missed by the ref and some blatant missed chances. Lucky to score 5.

    So far, thoughts on this:

    Gw 33 : Given + Naughton --> K.Davis + Schlupp (Myhill is my 2nd gk)
Gw 34: Sanchez + Eriksen --> Sterling + Henderson (Moreno as my 3th Liverpool player)

would you take a hit to bring in Fabregas at home to United? Mainly so I don't have to play both Cambiasso and Mané
