The ScoutCast – Episode 157 – Hipsters

Three middle-aged beards collide to talk Fantasy Football. Hipsters? Sadly, as Jonty so rightly points out, we bear a closer resemblance to a trio of David Brents.

A clean-shaven Ryan joins us to complete the quartet and boost the credibility: the Kiwi contributor wakes fresh and ready for action to mull over the Gameweek gone, the week’s transfer bandwagons and to look forward to the weekend’s action.

Around those regulars, we brace ourselves for the latest bout of quizzing from you, the community. We tackle the potential of the Palace form guys and the unlikely contribution from Hull and Leicester, as we cast an early eye on the looming double Gameweek.

The ScoutCast was beamed out live on Wednesday via a Google Hangout and you can view the full video recording on the player below.

Alternatively, for the polished, low-fat audio version can be found via this link or the first player.

Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel and Google Plus page to keep informed of when future ScoutCast hit the screen.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Any preference between Baines and Coleman?

Can't seem to decide which one - reminds me of Clyne and Bertrand ))

Going off the "Set Piece Takers' tab on here he is 2nd for free kicks/corners to Mirallas who which hasn't been playing recently (not sure if this absence due to injury or not)

Yep. Mirallas has be injured and is known to steal both corners and direct free kicks. Lukaku has taken over penalties so Baines is not the same pick as before.

Clyne and Berty are a similar price... Baines and Coleman aren't.

      Coleman for that reason.

To be fair, Coleman is only 0.2 cheaper than Baines (Bertie is 0.3 less than Clyne). Hence the likeness and the dilemma..

Both have had pretty awful returns since GW11. But Coleman has done a little better recently.

Does Baines even have pens anymore?

I've wondered why he wouldn't. He's clearly a good penalty taker and he took them all bar the Mirallas one no?

I'm an Everton supporter and I think Baines wasn't playing for one of the games and other he told Lukaku he could take it because he scores the last one and he was just coming back from injury

Toss a coin. Then during the split second the coin is in the air for; you might get a message from the FPL informing you where the 15 point haul is going.

But seriously; I have no idea.

So if you had 11 this week (including Remy) would your priority be:

    1) Eriksen to Bolasie
    2) Naughton to Toby to ensure of getting 11 players if Remy (or Clyne for that matter) don't play?

    Take a chance on Bolasie??

Are you nervous about not owning Bolaise and Murray for next 2 GWs?

        1. Ruth_NZ
          • 9 Years
          9 years, 24 days ago

Excluding appearance points (which every player gets if they play), Bolasie has scored 63 FPL points this season. Over 35% of those (22) came in one game.

In other words he averaged 1.5 'earned' points per game for 27 games and then scored 22 'earned' points in the last game.

As the evidence of 27 games is more reliable than 1, I see very little reason to be nervous about not having Bolasie. In my opinion Puncheon is a sounder option and the chance of Bolasie repeating is about as high as the chance of Tadic repeating was after GW8.

In this case we are comparing Fabregas with 3 games against Bolasie with 2. Which skews the balance even further. If choosing between the two Bolasie is barely even worth considering.

As for Murray, in my view he is a bang average player that belongs in a Championship team at best. Whilst Palace are playing well he may get some goals but he's really not PL standard and at the age of 31 he can hardly be improving. Vardy with 3 games or Murray with 2? A more even call maybe but hardly something to be nervous about.

Lovren was looking sloppy (in spite of the 3 bp) in that last match.

    Evening all!

Miraculously I'm still in the FPL Cup and there's six rounds to go (64 teams I think). GW33 opponent has six players not playing, no wildcard or FT and aside from that we similar teams.

Is there any easy of finding out the teams left in it? Or does anybody have any general advice on head to head style of the game as opposed to the standard mini league stuff?

Who to play between Cameron (SOU) and Schlupp (SWA) this week?

Other defenders are Terry and Alderweireld.

Obviously don't want to have two defenders on opposite teams, but as mentioned it could be 0-0, and Leicester don't look good for clean sheets lately.

My opinion about the bolasie/yaya debate: I am worried about bolasie this week but he is getting his chances via flick ons. He has more shots away from home because of the flick ons, he probably won't get them in home games. Yaya however has more shots at home and he is accurate, so it's yaya for me

Playoffs just started. Eventual Cup winner needs to win 4 best of 7 series, or 16 wins in total. Without question the most exciting playoffs of any sport. Hockey is similar to football (not American football) in lots of tradition and team aspects, unlike many other American sports. Of a 60 minute game, even the best player is only on for 30 minutes. Physically exhausting sport.

Well you will not want to buy in any Liverpool this week or your bench just becomes worse. So I would try to save a FT. You really should get a keeper, the way I see it you have a couple of options you get Schmeichel giving you a playing keeper this week and a DGW keeper for next week or you get Davis who will be a good option for the rest of the season.

Assuming you want to put out 11 players this week then the maximum you can have is 2 without a hit. You can get a 3rd with a hit. If you are content playing without a keeper you could lose one of your blank gameweek players this week for a Liverpool player and bench him. Then use your 2 FT's for 2 more. Maybe Cazorla to Coutinho? as there are doubts over Sturridge I would want to wait before getting him or Sterling because where he plays will probably depend upon the fitness of Sturridge. Coutinho should be safe enough.

Yeh, currently I have 10 players because I just got vardy in.

I could do foster -> mingolet and play with no keeper.
Then caz -> cout next week.

Or get howard/schmeichel this week and get cout/sterling + skrtl next week for a -4

I would have just played 4-4-2 and not done the Vardy transfer I think if getting Liverpool players was the goal. As you say a hit will be needed to do it now. To be fair I think that will work out fine. I prefer the second option myself

Hazard is capable of scoring against any opponent. I don't think his fixture against Arsenal should be a deterrent to his DGW prospects.

Weird formation this week as I can't part with Sanchez Giroud as I'd lose too much value when I buy them back for DGW. GTG?

    Davis
    Terry/Jagielka/Bertrand/Duff
    Eriksen/Fab/Walters/Hazard
    Kane/Aguero

    Krul/Sanchez/Giroud/PVA

By the time he's done dropping, how much will you actually lose on Giroud?

        I got him at 8.2, and don't think he'll fall below 8.6

Sanchez came in at 10.5, so lots to lose there as well

          I'd trade .2 for a playing forward.

Anyone considering Hendo © in GW34?
He seems to be involved in everything LIV does.
    On set-pieces and penos.

I am considering that as well...I have two spots in midfield and am considering Hendo, Sterling and Coutinho, I am leaning towards Hendo plus one of the other two....what are your thoughts?

Sorry, to answer your question, Hendo is preferred as he seems to be very consistent in an inconsistent side...

        I am WC next week.
Debating between Mignolet and Skrtel to join Hendo-Sterling combo.
Might stick it to Hendo. It's him or Hazard...

He's not a consideration at the moment, but if Hazard and Chelsea do poorly against United and Hendo looks good in the cup, then he might be a consideration.

I think I'll be able to afford Coutinho and Sterling, so I'll probably go for that. Hendo will always be a donkey in my book 😛
