Dugout Discussion

The Dugout Discussion – Tuesday

Gameweek 34 continues apace with Hull City playing host to Liverpool in a 7.45pm kick off. The Tigers look to build momentum after a 2-0 victory at Crystal Palace marked their first win in seven matches. Meanwhile, the Reds arrive at the KC Stadium off the back of a 0-0 stalemate against West Bromwich Albion, searching for only their second win in five outings.

Hull boss Steve Bruce will hope for a repeat performance of the Eagles clash, in which they fashioned the second-most shots on target (seven) of any side so far this Gameweek. Senegalese frontman Dame N’Doye remains the Tigers’ principal goal threat after netting twice at Selhurst Park, while Robbie Brady – who engineered the second most chances (five) among all midfielders on the weekend – keeps his place on the left as Steve Bruce names an unchanged XI.

Raheem Sterling’s abundance of owners will want more from the Jamaican-born wide man after he failed to register a single shot at The Hawthorns. Philippe Coutinho, on the other hand, mustered nine efforts on goal against the Baggies but has now failed to find the net in his previous six league starts. With two assists and four goals in seven appearances, Jordan Henderson is the form man for the Merseysiders and his prospects will be boosted by the absence of Steven Gerrard this evening. The Reds skipper drops out in the visitors’ only change as Brendan Rodgers hands Mario Balotelli another start up front.

BBC stats say Liverpool have had the ball 68% of the time.

    Doesn't really seem that way.

Hardly a bad decision when it has paid off so dramatically. It was a risk, and I'm sure most people calculated that risk. No risk no reward!

I don't get this logic. Based on the probability at the time it wud have been incorrect but in hindsight it ws obviously a brilliant move.

You can only make decisions based off of the information you had before the deadline and nothing really pointed to Hull doing anything.

Exactly. Ppl who failed to make the correct decision think they knew everything and weighed all up correctly. Obviously this game isn't an exact science so whoever gets the points made the correct decision.

I'm not saying Hull were lucky, I'm just saying there was nothing to suggest their defence was worth investing in. N'Doye maaaybe worth a punt but even he was up against an inform palace and a very tight pool defence (and without a goal in his last 4 games or whatever)

    5. Hibbopotamus
      • 9 Years

For me at least, it was more of a "well I have him sitting here and it's a double, so why not." Figured 4 pts guaranteed was better than risking a blank

      1. MMN
        • 10 Years
        9 years, 9 days ago

Hardly 4 points guaranteed considering most would expect them to concede 2 in one of the 2 games with ease. But I see your logic.

    6. MMN
      • 10 Years

It was a poor decision and the outcome doesn't change that. The decision is made with the information we have at the time.

I think that will turn when the players realise they actually are going down. They're playing like shite because they thought they have nothing to play for anymore, and are playing against teams that are fighting against relegation. Once they start that fight, they should win those other teams.
