Scout Notes

Scout Notes – Gameweek 35 – Monday

Arsenal rack up a ninth win in ten Gameweeks with a commanding display at the KC Stadium. Alexis Sanchez nets twice and Aaron Ramsey chips in with a goal and assist, as Stephen Quinn heads home Hull’s consolation in the 3-1 defeat.

Sanchez at the double as Arsenal flourish

Alexis Sanchez stole the headlines with a brace at the KC Stadium as Arsenal staged a free-flowing, attacking masterclass to record a 3-1 victory over Hull City. The Chilean forward opened the scoring with a deflected free-kick, before latching onto Aaron Ramsey’s superb through ball and calmly rounding Steve Harper for the Gunners’ third of the evening.

Sanchez fourth brace of the campaign strengthens his case for inclusion as Fantasy managers eye up Arsenal coverage ahead of their double Gameweek 37. Those looking to draft in the 11.3-priced midfielder – who’s netted three goals in four league starts – may well consider making a straight swap with Eden Hazard to free up the substantial funds. Hazard’s consistency (attacking returns in 14 of previous 20 starts) is undeniable, yet Sanchez’ explosive capabilities have now seen him return double-figures on eight occasions ahead of his four fixtures in the final three Gameweeks.

Ramsey impressed once more in his sixth successive start since a full return from injury in Gameweek 29. The Wales international boosted his tally to three goals and four assists over that period and, priced at 8.7, has edged ahead of Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla in the race for our double Gameweek attentions.

Olivier Giroud drew a blank for the third match on the trot, having netted in six consecutive outings before Gameweek 32. The French marksman only mustered four shots in Arsenal’s last two fixtures, with none of these efforts forcing a save out of the opposition’s goalkeeper. Conversely, Sanchez has chalked up 10 shots (four on target) across the last two, perhaps rendering him the premier captaincy pick for Arsenal’s double – already, the Chilean has risen in price and has been snapped up by over 26,000 FPL managers since the weekend.

Arsene Wenger named an unchanged XI from that which played out a 0-0 stalemate against Chelsea last Gameweek. Danny Welbeck missed out with inflammation in his knee, but Wenger revealed before the encounter that he expects the former Manchester United frontman to be passed fit for their Swansea City clash next Monday.

Hull outclassed by buoyant Gunners

Steve Bruce also fielded an unchanged side as Hull fell to just their second home defeat in six. Stephen Quinn bagged his first goal of the campaign, while Ahmed Elmohamady notched his second assist in as many outings – the 12,600 Fantasy managers that drafted in the Egyptian on the eve of the Tigers’ double Gameweek will be hoping he can sustain that momentum when they host a Burnley outfit devoid of inspiration next weekend.

A subsequent trip to Tottenham Hotspur and home tie against Manchester United on the final day of the season present the Yorkshire club with a testing finish that doesn’t appear conducive to strong Fantasy returns. Nonetheless, the Tigers – who sit just one point behind 18th-placed Sunderland – will doubtless be fighting tooth and nail to avoid the drop, which, as evidenced by their recent results against Palace and Liverpool, could translate into results on the pitch.

You any closer to deciding on the 2 arsenal mids you're getting? Sanchez + 1?

    A. Terry, Sterling -> Koscielny, Ramsey? [-4]
    B. Sterling, Coutinho, Vardy -> Benteke, Ramsey, Albighton/Cambiasso [-8] ?
    C. Sell hazard and make money for Benteke Ramsey,

    Already have Sanchez,

In B I can get Kosc next GW, but I am losing Coutinho who is a differential for me atm.

Terrible, terrible week, possibly my worst in FPL history. Dropped from 2nd to 9th in my main ML. However there’s only 44 points between me and 2nd place so I can certainly make some up places, but what do I do here?

    Ospina/Heaton
    Moreno, Ivanovic, Bertrand, Rose, Coleman
    Fabregas, Hazard, Sterling, Delph, Ramsey
    Giroud, Kane, Austin

It’s looking likely that to stay with the pack I need Sanchez and Benteke. At current prices I can do Giroud -> Benteke and Fabregas -> Sanchez for a 4pt hit. It’s the only way I can really see to get them in, and I fancy Sanchez to get more than Giroud going forward, and potentially Fabregas losing gametime now the championship’s tied up. £1.2m in the bank.

    Thoughts?

I wouldn't exit your Giroud plan (I have, too). Can you get Benteke from another forward? Consider Giroud, cazorla, Ramsey, and Ozil almost the same in terms of price and production. Sanchez is at the next tier. I don't have the calculus to get you Sanchez, but if you can get say Ramsey or Ozil instead, and not lose four points, it might be better. That is likely my strategy.

I'm 0.2m short of being able to do Austin -> Benteke, and with Ospina I would need to drop him or Giroud to bring in Ozil or Sanchez either way.

The only way I can see to make other worthwhile transfers would be all sorts of shenanigans - drop Sterling for a cheaper mid this week to free up funds, then get in Benteke the week after and re-evaluate which Arsenal players I have. In which time my ML rivals will potentially be soaring away, so it maybe just makes sense to take the hit this week.

Shocking week. It's been close in my main ML but I had about a 10pt head start on 3rd place, and then absolutely plummeted.

You won't catch up if your aim is to have the same team as your rivals. That was ok when you were ahead, not now.

I'm well aware. I know that I've got potentially better differential players but you need to have the same base or you'll fall at the first hurdle.

Can't afford Ramsey without ditching Haz or Silva

So it comes down to a Ars defender (already have Giroud & Sanchez)

Mert or Kos would mean ditching Ivan or Cresswell - so possibly MONREAL to come in.
    OR
Ditch Migs or Myhill and bring in OSPINA?

Nah, I think Aguero is more than enough City. Plus may minimise hits and Ramsey vs Swansea midfield should be fun to watch.

Only barrier is potential toe injury Ramsey may have.

Just had an epiphany - much better option:

Migs & Hendo > Panti & Cazorla (0.3 short of Ramsey)

Means a Sunderland double up in defence with PVA but might pay off with Save points and PVA might get some attacking points.

also contemplating Hendo out for Ramsey, but don't like the sound of a -12

I am going to get Sanchez in, but need to offload another player to do so. I have 2ft, so would you get rid of

    A. Moreno to yoshida
    B. Henderson to 5.5m mid
    C. Fabregas to 8.2m mid

Time for some next season reflection.

Hopefully writing these down will help remembering them when the time comes.

    - roll over transfers
    - begin the season with safe picks and a balances squad
    - maybe take more hits in the early season to get in the groove
    - doubling up on defense when it makes sense (Chelsea, Soton)
    - STRAP THOSE KNEES AND LET THEM FTs ROLL!
    - make 5th mid as cheap as possible and plan to use 4 defenders instead
    - Invest more in defense

    what else?

    Alright Gents,

2 Fts this weekend so should I do...

    Sterling > Rambo
    &
Moreno > Rose (or any other 4.9 defender you can recommend)

    My current team is...

    Schmeichel Gilks
    Moreno PvA Alderweireld Morgan Ivanovic
    Sánchez Sterling Hazard Coutinho Phillips
    Aguero Giroud Kane

Non-Arsenal defender likely to score the most points in the last 3 weeks?

    Any better options than Kolarov?

Reckon Walcott could be a sneaky pick? Come off the bench the last 2 matches.

Sneaky as in under-the-radar. He's capable of explosive scores even off the bench. Just putting it out there 😛
