Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 36

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the number of new injuries picked up over the weekend’s fixtures, with United nursing a number of concerns in the final third.

Chelsea
Kurt Zouma was selected ahead of Gary Cahill for this afternoon’s draw with Liverpool but lasted just 35 minutes before being subbed off through injury. Petr Cech missed out altogether with a slight neck problem.

Everton
Leighton Baines is set for scans after being forced off through injury 74 minutes into the Toffees’ 2-0 home loss to Sunderland. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We are going to assess his ankle. He was really suffering, it was very painful so at that point we couldn’t take any risks. We are going to assess him over the next 48 hours and find out if he is going to be available for the rest of the season.”

Leicester
Nigel Pearson is sweating on the fitness of Matty James, after the midfielder was stretchered off during yesterday’s clash with Southampton. Post-match, the Foxes boss seemed pessimistic over the midfielder’s injury before also revealing that substitute David Nugent picked up a problem in the 2-0 win:

“We had to deal with a couple of injuries throughout the game. Matty James picked up what looks to be quite a serious knee injury then Nuge (David Nugent) going on as a sub and not being able to finish the game at full tilt. It potentially gives you a few problems. Credit to the players though, they dealt with what they had to today. [For Matty James] It really is a case of getting the scan done and taking it from there. It doesn’t look to be at all encouraging. It could be a serious knee injury, but we’ll wait and see what the scan tells us. With Nuge it’ll be a case of having a scan and seeing where we go.”

Reports also indicate that Leonardo Ulloa sustained a hamstring problem before making way for Nugent.

Manchester United
Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney were both withdrawn due to injury during United’s trip to Palace. After the 2-1 win, Louis van Gaal played down the pair’s problems:

“It was very bad because our team was out of balance. Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back. Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time, but still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace. Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don’t think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off. Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play.”

Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria missed out at Selhurst Park due to illness and injury respectively, whilst Chris Smalling was subbed off after suffering cramp. Van Gaal admitted the defender wasn’t playing particularly well prior to being hauled off:

“[Smalling] was stumbling and I don’t think he played his best match so that’s why I changed. He had cramp, you could see it because he was pulling at his toes.

Newcastle
Vurnon Anita was withdrawn late on after sustaining an injury during the Magpies draw with West Brom.

QPR
Sandro was unable to feature in today’s trip to City due to issues with his UK Residency visa.

Hazard + Cambiasso -> Silva + Cazorla is quite tempting at the moment.

Would be for a hit though.

I have a small lead in my ML and mostly worried about my rival having Giroud and myself not. The lead is currently 26 points but will be less after he gets points from Giroud.

Our teams are quite similar with common players being: Terry PvA - Sanchez Hazard Ozil - Kun Kane

    The differences are:
Me: Pants - Skrtel Bertrand Yun - Silva Boyd - Vardy
Rival: Krul - Toby McShane Rose - Henderson McCarthy - Giroud

I have 1FT and 2.6 in the bank. Which option do you think I should do?

Ship Kane and have a different front three or ship Vardy and have the same front three. Or even keep Kane and Vardy and not worry about Giroud?

    1. Skrtel or Bertrand + Vardy > Vlaar + Giroud (-4)
    2. Skrtel or Bertrand + Kane > 5.7? + Giroud (-4)
    3. Skrtel or Bertrand > Kos (free)
    4. Skrtel or Bertrand + Boyd > Kos + Gomez (crazy -4 and bench either Hazard Vardy or Kane)
    5. Other suggestions?

I like not taking a hit though not having Giroud when he does is a worry in my opinion.

But a cleansheet from Kos would change that

The thing is that your lead makes it relatively safe for you to take that hit. Meanwhile, I think that a simple Berty -> Kos will fill the bill for you. Notice, however, that in that case it is likely that he will captain Giroud and it is clearly possible that he'd score more than 20 points in those two matches.

Personally, I'm closer having Koscielny than Giroud, but then again I have Benteke and not Vardy.

This is one of the things I'm worried about. Giroud going nuts and him captaining him to jump me.

At least if I had Giroud the damage wouldn't be as bad especially if I didn't captain him.

Bertrand and Skrtel in my team are poison and having Kos would round it out nicely

He has 0.1 in the bank so could bring in Pants for Krul.

      Good isn't he?

Not as attention grabbing as Boga, Solanke or Baker but does a very good job. And built to be a Jose CM, 6' 2" or something I think.

RLC, Ake and Solanke are the 3 most likely to make it all the way through I think. Solanke is the best young striker we have had at the club since Osgood.

I don't really think they can tank their way out of it. I expect them to play hard at home this weekend--they won't want to be accused of phoning it in against a relegation struggler and affecting the outcome. Away to Everton on the final day is less predictable.

Morning all. Does anyone have an idea of the average number of players people have tonight? Wondering whether to expect a green arrow with Sanchez and Ozil (rank 4k).

Seriously, have you just walked in to the office, cracked your fingers all in one go, poured yourself a coffee, said hello to most, smiled and nodded to the rest, sat down and logged straight on here.

I do work in spurts, but I do so much when I do that I'm able to get by. It's not a strategy that my boss is particularly keen on, but it's worked so far.

Thinking of going with no Sunderland players, will probably buckle though - not sure the last time I completely ignored a DGW team.

I'm thinking the same, any would require a hit. Couple of options I'm weighing up are bringing in PVA and getting a striker, but not sure I want to ditch Kane ahead of Hull at home, even though his form is poor.

My main options are to lose Vardy but in that case I'd rather buy Kane/Austin than a Sunderland striker or to bring in PvA and bench Stones (whu). More attracted to the second option but I fancy Kane/Austin to score heavily.

Why are you so keen on Austin and Kane? I'd have though their seasons have come more or less to an end.

I like PVA because he covers the defence but carries attacking threat. Not sure I trust any of the attacking options. I don't think any of them warrant a hit.

Fixtures as much as anything - Newcastle are woeful and haven't kept a clean sheet since GW27 - I think QPR will want to make up for this week. Kane is more of a punt given recent form. I guess I'm just attracted to the attacking transfers.

PvA would require some pride swallowing as I didn't give sufficient thought to my transfers last week or he'd already be in my team - there are disadvantages of waiting until Friday night to make changes!

Fixtures shmixtures! I think form is key at this stage, and for that reason I much prefer Vardy and Leicester, even if they secure safety before GW38. 6 wins in the last 7, average 2 goals per game, conceding less than a goal a game on average (including 4 cleanies along the way)...

I think you're probably right and when I got Vardy it was with the intention of keeping for the rest of the season, I just get my head turned by that sultry dark blue colour on the ticker 🙂

                Cheers for the steer.

PS I prefer to wait sometimes and miss out on what would have been the best move. The amount of times I change my mind by Friday is surprising!

Oh I agree, I more mean that I made my transfer under the influence of a fair amount of wine and whisky and had I been sober I'd probably have made a different decision with a little more consideration!

If I indeed save my FT this week,

          Oz > Silva
That will be one of them for sure, to block ML rivals..

Will decide the other one that week..as you said, via some 'second guessing' 😉

Yeah as if I can trust that. 😕

I will have PvA, Larsson, Wickham. But I'm not full of confidence, they just seem marginally the best options from the bit of research I have done.
