Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 36

We take our usual Sunday evening look at the number of new injuries picked up over the weekend’s fixtures, with United nursing a number of concerns in the final third.

Chelsea
Kurt Zouma was selected ahead of Gary Cahill for this afternoon’s draw with Liverpool but lasted just 35 minutes before being subbed off through injury. Petr Cech missed out altogether with a slight neck problem.

Everton
Leighton Baines is set for scans after being forced off through injury 74 minutes into the Toffees’ 2-0 home loss to Sunderland. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We are going to assess his ankle. He was really suffering, it was very painful so at that point we couldn’t take any risks. We are going to assess him over the next 48 hours and find out if he is going to be available for the rest of the season.”

Leicester
Nigel Pearson is sweating on the fitness of Matty James, after the midfielder was stretchered off during yesterday’s clash with Southampton. Post-match, the Foxes boss seemed pessimistic over the midfielder’s injury before also revealing that substitute David Nugent picked up a problem in the 2-0 win:

“We had to deal with a couple of injuries throughout the game. Matty James picked up what looks to be quite a serious knee injury then Nuge (David Nugent) going on as a sub and not being able to finish the game at full tilt. It potentially gives you a few problems. Credit to the players though, they dealt with what they had to today. [For Matty James] It really is a case of getting the scan done and taking it from there. It doesn’t look to be at all encouraging. It could be a serious knee injury, but we’ll wait and see what the scan tells us. With Nuge it’ll be a case of having a scan and seeing where we go.”

Reports also indicate that Leonardo Ulloa sustained a hamstring problem before making way for Nugent.

Manchester United
Luke Shaw and Wayne Rooney were both withdrawn due to injury during United’s trip to Palace. After the 2-1 win, Louis van Gaal played down the pair’s problems:

“It was very bad because our team was out of balance. Phil Jones had to play as a left full-back. Rooney has a dead leg so I had to change things that were not in our favour at that time, but still these in circumstances, we fought until the end and we have beaten Crystal Palace. Shaw took an elbow and had a bloody nose, but he went to the hospital and I have already heard that he shall fly home with us so I don’t think it is very bad. Out of precaution, we took him off. Rooney had a dead leg so next week he is healthy and fit to play.”

Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria missed out at Selhurst Park due to illness and injury respectively, whilst Chris Smalling was subbed off after suffering cramp. Van Gaal admitted the defender wasn’t playing particularly well prior to being hauled off:

“[Smalling] was stumbling and I don’t think he played his best match so that’s why I changed. He had cramp, you could see it because he was pulling at his toes.

Newcastle
Vurnon Anita was withdrawn late on after sustaining an injury during the Magpies draw with West Brom.

QPR
Sandro was unable to feature in today’s trip to City due to issues with his UK Residency visa.

This rumour about haz not starting. Is it pure FFS projection?

See the latest tweet on the home page. Jose has said he is going to start a few kids and that certain players like Haz, Fabs and Willian have played too many games. Could easily be rested imo

OK at least there is some substance to it, thanks. I'll sell for an arsenal player. It was between him and silva really

Having watched the game today, Haz did seem to be off the gas pedal most of the time, it seemed to me at least. Got the vibe that he's likely ready to slow it down and rest after a hard working season. I see no need for Jose to play him, at least in the next game. Maybe he'd be up for the last game at home. But, might as well start his summer break now.

2FT this week gents. Who would be your punt for the DGW from Sunderland. Going in with Bellerin, Sanchez, Giroud, Panti already and using one FT for PVA.

    Bertrand/Skrtel - Defender (triple Sunderland defence 😯 )

    Henderson -> Mid

    Kane -> Striker

Both pretty good options. Yea I'm not overly knowledgeable on them either but Wickham seemed to be doing a lot more with it than Defoe.

Eh, just ideas at the end of the day. No one has to follow it.
This week I played Clyne ahead of Wasilewski on FFS board advice, though I knew in my heart he hasn't going to keep a cleanie against the foxes.
              Ah well.

I've been advising everyone looking for a defender. it usually goes like this:
          which defender should I get?
          kolarov
          is he nailed?
          no
ok I'll get stones thanks all

    Henderson - Hazard - Cazorla* - Sánchez*
    Giroud* - Vardy - Agüero

GW38 is a lottery most years. Good for punts but better to find someone who you can play both GWs in advance.

Very hard to lose Vardy, especially considering they have QPR at home last game

Would you lose N'Doye for a Sunderland striker this week, for a hit?

For a hit is tough. Spurs are tricky & Hull need goals to have a chance of surviving.

Surely save and have two ready for fun in GW38. Really hard to see an improvement!

Are you happy with Cambiasso possibly coming in for Hazard if he doesn't play?

Are you happy with Henderson versus maybe a Fellani/Mata punt?

Finally back in top 10k since i went into free-fall right after the fateful costa to giroud (c) vs Qpr transfer. OR 9,999. Relishing the moment albeit temporarily. Stil got sanchez and giroud to play..

Who to drop for Ramsey/Ozil/Caz this week?

    Hendo (-4), Hazard or Silva.

It's tough. I actually fancy Hendo from here on in, even when Gerrard plays he seems to be pretty advanced getting in around the box. Hazard is hazard so he could easily hurt me. Silva just got 16 points...it's tough.

    Cheers

I'd drop hazard. He looked terrible. I'm contemplating similar move i.e. Ozil/ramsey for Hazard or silva but leaning twds keeping silva as city stil have 2nd to play for.

Hazard out could just backfire you know. What if he scores, everyone else above you has him. You can take him out if you are chasing big time though.

Would be madness to sell Kane before Hull, Benteke showed at the weekend that he's human, Kane V Hull still has the potential for a major score in a key week.

    Unless I sell Hazard instead?

    1. Shane H
      • 8 Years

I guess the situation with Silva is simple, if you are leading you keep, if you are chasing and the person you are chasing has him you sell.

With two weeks to go he's in a major differential spot and there's a few decent alternatives in the last two weeks.

Wouldn't that situation apply to Hazard as well though? Someone has to go for people's 2nd arsenal mid

It would and I have neither now, looking for a last min surge up the rankings and I'm not going to do it with those two.

I list Hazard this week and my replacement hasn't played yet, so far it's not hurt.

          It's punt time.

So I currently have Giroud, Ozil and Koscielny in my squad. I can't help but feel nervous going into next week without Sanchez though.

Crazy to take a hit and do something like Hazard + Kosc > Sanchez + 5.5M DEF (0.2m short of Kolarov sadly)
