Gameweek 2 Set for Friday Deadline

This afternoon’s release of the updated fixture schedule represents a milestone for Fantasy managers. With TV coverage now factored in over August and September, it has been confirmed that Gameweek 2 will get underway on a Friday evening, with Aston Villa entertaining Man United at 7.45pm – the first time this has occurred.

This will bring a new twist to the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game in particular, allowing us to see the starting XI prior to kick-off before firming up our transfer plans. With that in mind, Fantasy managers may be a little more reluctant to delve into the transfer market prior to the Gameweek 2 kick-off, which, in turn, would slow any possible player price rises.

From an editorial perspective, we’ll obviously take this into consideration and roll out our Scout Picks and Spot the Differential articles earlier than normal, publishing them on Friday morning to accomodate the time switch.

The Premier League have also issued the schedule for the opening seven rounds of fixtures, though the rest of the Gameweeks will kick off on the usual Saturday afternoon, with the Villa-United match moved to Friday due to an English Defence League march in the area the following day.

It’s worth noting, however, that from 2016/17, ten Friday evening matches are expected over a season, bringing this new tactic into play far more frequently.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Decent article in its own right but considering it was published this morning, the author may need to spend some time cleaning egg off his face:

"While we’re on the subject of Falcao, why don’t go through all the reasons Chelsea won’t sign him despite Mourinho’s words to the contrary…

.... Mourinho only said all that stuff about Falcao as a favor to their shared agent, Jorge Mendes"

      * To be fair, they did include a little disclaimer that they might sign him as a special favour to Mendes.

I'm confused - I thought Friday games weren't starting til 16/17, with the exception of this United game. FFS Article seems to suggest they'll be this season but the Guardian article says the following:

"For the next TV rights deal, running from August 2016, the Premier League is to make 168 live matches available per season – 14 more than the current 154 – divided into five packages of 28 matches and two packages of 14 matches.

One of the packages will include up to 10 live games per season on a Friday night. "

It looks like it's speaking about next season rather than this one.

Paul's article says: "It’s worth noting, however, that ten Friday evening matches are now expected over a season, meaning that should have nine more Friday evening kick-offs between Gameweek 8-38 to potentially use this intriguing new tactic to our advantage."

Isn't this wrong though if it's only the United game this season? Am I misreading?

The good thing about an early GW2 deadline is that most of us are likely not to make a transfer anyway.

I've never understood this early wc logic tbh

People treat the wc like it's a pain in the arse (and it sometimes can be with all the redrafting) but a well-timed and well executed wc can allow you to make huge gains in the overall standings

                  Team Changes

" Once you have selected a team of 9 riders and they have started the Tour de France, you may not replace them during the race.

There will be no rider substitutions during the race, even if riders abandon during the race. The 9 riders that you start the tour with will be the only riders who will score you points during the event. "

    1. Do you think Sanchez will be worth his price (11.0/11.5) at the start of next season? Ramsey or Ozil should be better value, right?

      1) I think Sanchez will continue to perform and so will probably be worth his price. Still not sure about Ozil, if Ramsey is firing again then better value potentially.

Sanchez and Ozil are the only two in our midfield who are nailed on 100%. But Ozil is really shot-shy at times, second-assists a lot of goals - never ideal in Fantasy perspective.

Ramsey will be effective but he will not be nailed on. Cazorla is ahead of him in the CM pecking order, and though he is our first-choice RM, Walcott and Ox also compete for that spot.

Haha, he is really trying to build up his fitness now. Was not rushed back to the side end of last season, and is looking forward to a full pre-season, which he never had.

Can only hope for better, we have alternatives, but I myself regard him as the best RM in the side right now.

if Sanchez is listed as Forward, as it was implied earlier due to the PL site update, I would not pay 10.5-11.0 for him. At this price you need a striker who can get near 20 goals.

I predicted that, once he's recovered from Copa America, Sanchez will be the top scoring player (maybe after Aguero if Aguero stays fit). However, I won't have him from the start because I don't think he'll be fit.

Do we know for sure that Gameweek 2 will start on a Friday?

What if we have a DGW in week 1, followed immediately by a blank?

How can premierleague.com plan out their gameweeks for the whole year? What if in week 26 there's a Friday night match that isn't known about yet? The gameweeks are always shown in full in the rules section in Gameweek 1.

    1. Saniul

So Monaco keep sending Falcao on loan-after-loan every year, how long do they have him signed for?

And does he not feel like taking a little less money and being the top player for a club in a recognised league who is also playing in the CL? Or does he have no say?

If he is choosing moves as these and letting his career get ruined, cannot say anything at all.

6 songs, and Andy Murray chooses one by Kid Rock and TWO by Ed Sheeran? Is it just me or do sportsmen tend to have dreadful taste in music? Kudos though to Pat Cash for picking Immigrant Song, and in particular to Johanna Konta for picking one of my favourite songs from possibly my favourite album of all time:

A mark of how good Radiohead are is that you could legitimately argue that any of their albums (bar Pablo Honey and maybe King of Limbs) is their best. The Bends, OK Computer and Kid A have all been my favourite album EVER at one point or another. Kid A currently holds that honour along with Astral Weeks.

I couldn't believe that they managed to change direction completely after The Bends and then OK Computer but were still staggeringly brilliant in both cases. Never really listened to Pablo Honey bar Creep which I enjoy playing at full volume when on Billericay High Street coming in to work.

Agreed - there's so much great stuff that I sometimes don't know where to start. I'm a big fan of minor chord and/or downbeat stuff with interesting lyrics. I'm always astonished that Nick Drake was completely overlooked whilst he was alive.

I know, Nick Drake being overlooked is one of music's great tragedies. As he himself said, "fame is but a fruit tree, so very unsound. It can never flourish til its stock is in the ground".

I do have a penchant for "sad" songs (not that I find them sad, I just find them beautiful).

Your comment reminded me of this:

                "The saddest of all keys".

The pay-off to that scene is great (as is all of the film of course). The first time I saw it I was in hysterics but one of the people in the room said in a perfectly serious tone "What's so funny? That's a really stupid name for a song like that". Which of course made me laugh even more.

Watching Spinal Tap with someone who doesn't get Spinal Tap is infuriating. I've seen it with someone who complained about them singing out of tune when they harmonise Heartbreak Hotel at Elvis' grave.

I think I'd had enough beer to find it even funnier. They left the room in a huff eventually. They didn't get the bit about the volume going up to 11 either, "Surely they could just recalibrate it?".

Oh god no, Doolittle. Van Morrison for me is about the same for me as if Van Persie was fronting the band. I have the deepest respect for your FF expertise ..... but not for this particular music taste. VM: ugh.
Still, it's a good job we're not all the same.

Have you heard Astral Weeks? It's an odd one: I don't like Van Morrison at all except that one album. Most of his work is garbage, but Astral Weeks is a masterpiece.
