The sceptics were circling ahead of Ronald Koeman’s first year in charge of Southampton after former manager Mauricio Pochettino was followed through the exit door by a number of first-team regulars. The Dutchman proved them wrong, though, and after dipping into the transfer market to acquire the likes of Sadio Mane, Graziano Pelle, Dusan Tadic and Ryan Bertrand, he guided the Saints to a seventh-place finish – one spot higher than they’d managed under the Argentine in 2013/14.

In this members article, we cast an eye back over Koeman’s first campaign at St Mary’s, analysing the chief goal threats and creators and comparing their overall displays to Pochettino’s only full year at the helm.

          He was battling with a groin injury last season apparently.

          If it's cleared up, you'd expect him to be a starter. That being said, when he was playing, and playing well, his returns weren't amazing, baring that one mental game.

    Quite a lot here picking Giroud. I wouldn't. Here is what he said recently...
    'To be honest, when you are a footballer you don't have to listen to people commenting about your performance,' said Giroud.
    'The main thing is not to have any doubt when you miss a chance or miss a game. It can happen sometimes.
    'The best thing is to forget about the comments straight away and to keep the head up and not let it affect your qualities.

    'I'm not angry against him but it's true that I didn't understand at first. I think he reacted about his words and explained them more.

        My point is that he talks about it again while this happen months ago.
        That means he still didn't get over it. His form also got worse at the end of the season.
        Walcott finished very well as a striker so I would not pick him because Wenger may go for Walcott up front

        Yeah, just using him as a 5th cheap defender. Will look to replace him if I can find a solid 4.0 defender later on in preseason. I'm getting Huth instead of Morgan forgot to correct that.

      if you have no subs, then its not so great. Midway through the season all that matters is the starting 11. But at the start, team balance and getting as many starters as possible is key(In my humble opinion)

        Hi guys new to the site and quite new to FPL but ive seen a lot of RMT's so im gonna give mine a go.

        Thoughts:
        I do not like keeper rotation unless there is a DGW as it frustrates me too much, Leicester have good fixtures.
        Defence- Ivanovic is a machine and will always start. Rotate between Soton, West Ham and Bournemouth.
        Midfield- Hazard is a must, Chadli good fixtures except opener, Walcott always gets returns
        Strikers- Deeney a gamble, Rooney and Costa two proven big hitters, Costa also got 5 goals against swansea last season so he will be my captain

          Why do you say Hazard is a must? Hazard to Fabregas and Richie becomes Mata/Depay/Yaya/Ferminho. Most don't agree but I think Fabregas and one of the others will out score Hazard and Ritchie.

        Whu & Bou rotates perfectly for first six weeks can upgrade whu defender to Chl or Mcy after that.

        Pools home fixtures for first six weeks are good and villa defender will rotate .

        Sou defender will play regard less of fix for six weeks.

        Lukaku will play first week only will be upgraded to Kane or pool striker in week 2.

        Rooney will be upgraded to Aguero after week 3.

        Thoughts please ?

        A lot of love for Hendo. Understandably I suppose.
        I got him in at the start of his great run of form last season but what a fluke it was. AJohnson got arrested and I was forced into an unwanted -4.
        I think Hendo got about 40 points in the next 6 games. Sweet.

          After the season he just had, I wouldn't be surprised if he started at 10m. Ozil started at 10m in his debut season didn't he?

          And if it were to happens, I'd expect Silva wide and KDB central.

                  They definitely are, however I still have confidence in him. He's got big scores vs Arsenal and United in the past, I really think the Europa has unfairly affected too many people's. They discredit the goals he scored in it, yet don't allow him any compensation for having to play twice a week for the first time in his career

                    Yeh, I just think Arsenal and Man U, and even Spurs will be slightly better defensively this season, and I reckon it will take time for RM to figure out the best 3 to play behind Lukaku.
