Scout Picks

The Scout Picks – New for 2015/16

Having experimented with a new system for the Scout Picks last season, once again, we’re tweaking the setup for the forthcoming season – hopefully for the better.

We’re still giving you, the Fantasy Football Scout community, the opportunity to get involved and take on our lineup.

We have, however, decided to scrap the weekly vote which, at times, could sometimes result in spam comment posting and the occasional exploit.

Instead, we’re turning to a lottery to select a community member to select their picks in each Gameweek.

If you wish to submit a Scout Picks squad and be the community’s champion in the forthcoming Gameweek, you’ll need to submit your details via this form.

Twenty-four hours later we’ll announce the selected champion and he/she will then have until Thursday afternoon to submit their picks.

This will then go head-to-head with our squad, which will be selected using the old traditional method of argument and discussion behind the scenes – at which point I’ll put my foot down and pick Leighton Baines regardless. So there will only be one set of Scout Picks from us this season.

We’re also planning a couple of new articles, centred around the Scout Picks.

We’ll bring you a Provisional Scout Picks selection on Tuesday detailing our early thinking. This article will also be used to announce the community champion for that week.

We’re also planning a new ad-hoc article that will reveal some of the discussion and tension going on behind the scenes, as a way of letting you get a view of our own selection process and any particular dilemmas in a given Gameweek.

Then, on Friday, you’ll get the final Scout Picks from us and your champion.

We’re still offering a prize alongside this process. The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

How Do I Get Involved?

Would-be community “Champions” must put themselves forward by submitting their details on the Scout Picks Champion Entry form.

We will create a community article on Monday each week to announce that applications are open and link to the form.

An applicant will be chosen at random the following day and announced in our Provisional Picks article.

The successful community “Champion” must supply their final Scout Picks XI to Jonty (jonty@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk) by 3pm on Thursday of that week. They have the option to tweak their Picks until 3pm on Friday.

Community Champions may seek the help and advice of others on the site once announced.

Should the community “Champion” fail to provide an initial or final Scout Pick selection, then an “Assistant Manager”, chosen by us, will gain control of the selection to represent the community for the Gameweek in question.

What do I need to do if I become the Community Champion?

You must select an Fantasy Premier League squad of 11 players in any valid FPL formation and using the regular FPL rules – eg: only three players per team permitted.

We will set a budget for your XI. Initially, this will be 82.5 and will increase as the season progresses and prices rise.

You may consult with the community in order to gain advice on building your Scout Picks for the Gameweek.

You do not need to submit any test to accompany your Picks but we may use a contribution should you wish to submit up to 200 words.

How Will the Scout Picks Be Scored?

We will total up the FPL points for both our Scout Picks and the community’s Picks.

No captain will be applied.

No chips will be applied.

Are there any other rules?

Yes there are. Plus, we reserve the right to make up some more along the way once we get started.

For now, we’re stipulating the following:

  • Community Champion Nominations must be registered users on Fantasy Football Scout and must not be under moderation at the time.
  • Scout Picks cannot be posted as a nomination on behalf of another user.
  • Nominees must be willing to supply a valid email address for contact throughout the selection process.
  • Any nominee or Champion voted by the community, who is later put under moderation, will not be considered for that Gameweek.
  • We reserve the right to change and overrule the selection of the chosen Community Champion at anytime.

We are now accepting applications for Gameweek 1 so head over to the entry form if you fancy getting your name in the hat.

You have until 2pm on Tuesday to get your application submitted.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    SKY GAME QUESTION (NEWBIE):

Given the captaincy changes allowed, is Rooney "essential" or, more generally, is having three strikers a must?

I currently don't have Rooney and have a 352 (Aguero Kane up front). To get Rooney I would either need to drop Kane (who seemed to be gold dust last year) or drop Silva and switch to 343. I have some spare cash.

      Why would Rooney be essential?
He plays on a Saturday for the first 3 GWs.

Midfielders are often better captains in sky so no hes not essential. However a United player rotating with City works well after first couple of GWs. But of course it can be done with other players

Why United / City rotation? Is because they tend to play on different days?

Can anyone tell me how i can better this team please?

    Myhill (Hennesy)
Shaw Mert Huth (Gomez (liverpool) and 4.0)
    Mane Hazard Sterling Walcott (Fletcher)
    Rooney Kane Wilson

I would get rid of Kane as I don't see him replicating his form from last season...way too expensive.

Use that savings to upgrade either one of your D to a premium option or Fletcher to stack your midfield and run 5 wide every match.

I think I'm (Finally!) set. Finished top 12k last year (best finish top 1,500 a few years back).

    Schmeichel Butland
    Ward Cedric O'Shea (Richards, Gomez)
    Hazard, Ozil, Mane, Sterling, Depay
    Rooney Berahino Wilson

Low budget D with a packed Midfield is my early season strategy this season.

I finished in the top 12k last season running 5 wide for the majority of the season...did the same thing in 2010 and finished top 1,300...so it's possible to do well...and often it's a solid differential.

Repost form previous... And it really bugs me... Anyone?

I'm wondering why no love for Camerone Jerome here... Cheap, decent fixtures, had some moments in top flight... Still Deeney and Wilson a lot higher in picking order... Why?

    Hi all.
Could do with a bit of feedback please, particularly on my GK/Def which I seem to have trashed when I brought Tekkers back in for Sakho. Aguero might also be Rooney to start.

    Courtois Rudd (won't play)
    Bellerin, Cederic, Huth,Kaboul, Saylor
    Sinclair, Sterling, Mata, Hazard, Ritchie
    Benteke, Aguero, Wilson

Also worried about Bellerin rotation & whether Saylor will play

Bellerin should keep his place but yep there is a threat of rotation looming. Kaboul and sinclair are 2 other risky ones.

      Overall too many risks

Hi all! Please take a moment to RMT. Any feedback would be much appreciated!

    Courtois (Myhill)

Distin Mertesacker Moreno (Glen Johnson) (Targett)

Hazard Mahrez Adam Johnson Sterling Walcott

    Rooney Lukaku (Sakho)

Food for thought... Distin and Moreno rotate well. Mertesacker, Targett and Glen Johnson also rotate well after GW 3. Probably get rid of Lukaku after GW 1/2. Will Walcott start? Will Moreno start?

    Many thanks!!

Bamford game time? Wanyama not exactly the greatest for FPL? Other than that, I like it! 8/10.

I think Bamford will play with Wickham and they'll ship out Murray. I follow a championship team so saw him a lot last year, he's a brilliant finisher and can't see Chelsea letting him go unless he's assured of playing a decent amount? Worth changing after a couple of weeks for Deeney or Wilson if he's not though.

Wanyama not great but at 4.5 he's solid 2/3 points a game?

Looks like a bit too much in defence without chelsea cover and not sure you have an easy way to get Augero in 2 ft's ( but hey WC gw 3/4 seems pretty popular ) . also looks a bit hard to captain but hey I never gett that right so go with what you think

I saw few questions and posts regarding defenders and as others, Im looking for 4.5m def options. i thought of opening a discussion here if u r willing (sorry for the long post). Hope it will be benefitial.

    1. What are the back 4 for Stoke? any of Muniesa, bardsley, cameron or even wilson nailed??

    2. What are the back 4 for aston villa? anyone nailed yet?

    3. What are the back 4 for swansea? any chance rangel or bartley nailed although that is a very small chance.

    4. What are the back 4 for west ham? collins or o'brien nailed?

    5. What are the back for west brom? olsson or pocognoli nailed?

Easier options are newcastle, sunderland (really poor defence) and promoted teams defenders (People here considered norwish and bourn)

    6. Norwish or bourn defence?

    7. If norwish, Bassong, wisdom or martin?

    8. If bourn, Francis or mings?

If this post succeeded Ill try another with 4.0m defenders
