The Dugout Discussion – Southampton vs Everton

Saturday’s events get underway with a clash between Southampton and Everton at St Mary’s this lunchtime. Both sides are looking for a first win of the new campaign after registering 2-2 draws with Newcastle and Watford last weekend.

The Saints proved a reliable source of defensive returns at home last year, chalking up 11 clean sheets in front of their own fans and conceding a mere 13 times – only Chelsea (nine) proved more miserly.

After netting twice at St James’ Park last week, they’ll be looking to take advantage of a Toffees backline devoid of the injured Leighton Baines. Certainly, given that the visitors managed just two clean sheets on their travels last season, those backing the Saints at both ends of the pitch will fancy their chances of getting amongst the points.

    Anyone else hovering over the wildcard button. Rooney (c), mane, Cedric and Sinclair have well and truely ruined my weekend already. Fingers crossed for some points in the 3 o clocks.

      Third season syndrome?! They were poor for sure. Early days. Perhaps missing Schneiderlin as the metronome. Koeman will make them a good side but might take a little while by the looks of things

    I should have thrown in the wildcard, but for my ego.

    I need to downgrade depay to a 6.5 to upgrade Rooney to kun. Is Barkley too much of a liability given his next 3 fixtures or is it worth a shot? Cabaye is the other option, I suppose, but he's also got tough fixtures.
