The ScoutCast – Episode 165 – Wildboys

Tempted into dealing our Wildcards by yet another “mediocre” Gameweek, Granville and I go through almost the entire episode before Jonty reveals he’s weakened and gone “active”. It’s a revelation that almost has us both logging off and reaching for our own panic buttons.

Before that dramatic finale, we find salvation via another bout of “rough the smooth”, cheering ourselves with tales of Gameweek totals which dip below even our miserable tallies.

We also take a further round of community questions, forcing me to “fess up” on Theo Walcott, while Granville laments Wayne Rooney’s form and the three of us tackle the merits of Mahrez, Ozil and loading up on City assets.

This episode was originally broadcast live on Monday using Google Hangouts via our YouTube channel. Be sure to subscribe to our channel to get notifications of future live episodes.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

    Got cut off,

    The squad looks like this:

    Courtois (Butland)
    Shaw, Kolarov, Williams (Oxford, Richards)
    Sanchez, Silva, Payet, Hoolahan (Arnautovic)
    Gomis, Aguero, Deeney

    0.4 in bank

    1) Deeney over Arnautovic? (So'ton has a wildly porous back line recently)
    2) How are you all feeling about Courtois?

    1. Pep's Money Laundry
      • 8 Years

Arnautovic did look good last week but I would go for Deeney

Bergovic deserves to at least get another game after last weeks performance but in all likelihood courtois will return and keep a CS

    Butland (McCarthy)
Mertz - Kompany - Targett (Clyne - Richards)
    Hazard(c) - Ayew - Silva - Albrighton (Westwood)
    Kun(v) - Diouf - Pelle

Any thought on my captain selection and my DEF selection. Think Chelsea has a statement to make and are bound to bounce back, else their season is finished before it even starts.

I don't think LFC will produce a good performance (no CS) against Arsenal, they are still not up.

Clyne is more attack minded and have greater chances of putting an assist, with big-tekkers out there. He was my favourite last year's too, so I'm sticking with him until I'm disappointed.

You'd have to be a pretty hard core United fan to put the armband on him now. Still, it is Newcastle and Rooney could be up for it after all the negativity in the press.

You almost have to be a pretty hard core United fan to even be keeping him in your squad right now, to be honest. I know you are one, Ryan, so no offense meant, but wowzers, I didn't exactly see his start playing out this way.

But yes, it is Newcastle and he did seem from his presser to have been a ...bit... embarrassed by the last performance. Maybe it will light a fire and we can see all the bandwagons crash into each other in their attempts to reverse course.

I actually called him out in the burning question articles during pre-season. I said Rooney is unlikely to succeed in the striker role simply because its been too long since he's been a main striker and no longer has the killer instinct. I still had Rooney in my team for the early weeks as a place holder for Aguero but in hindsight I should have just gone for Aguero right from the start

I remember the article and it persuaded me. I had him at the start as well, but also just as a placeholder. I did end up going with Aguero from the start and the kickon effect of that was me ending up with Mahrez instead of Mane. Still had Rooney last week because I was enticed by the upcoming Newcastle match as well, but after seeing nothing this last week either, I wasn't willing to roll the dice again. He got shipped out this week for me.

          Money
          Silva>Yaya
          Diouf>Watmore
Chelsea too much of a mess right now to bank on Pedro fitting in and producing right away, and the more midfielders they have, the more the points are spread around

Pedro will come in straight away though with Oscar being out still, whether he produces or not is a different story, that goes for every fantasy pick. Is Silva worth the extra £ when I have Aguero though?

He is the focal point for everything their team does. Until last year, you got mostly assists, but not so much in the way of goals. Last year, he started taking more shots and now you get both. You get goals alone from Yaya and unless he is big on the scoresheet, you don't get as much bonus from him.

Yaya's glory season two years ago still colors the perception around here, but a really big number of his goals/points that year came from penalties he took when Aguero was out with injuries.

He does look healthy again, at the start of this season, and a rampaging Yaya is a glorious thing, but I also look at injury risk, and that is an area where I think Silva holds an edge.

Exactly, but is that a bad thing? Like I say, I'm sorta leaning towards A. It's essentially -

£4.5m, Pedro, YYT, and Watmore vs Kolarov, Silva, Hoolahan and Diouf.

It's OK to zig when others zag. If nothing else has been shown around here over the past few weeks, it's that many people who were highly confident of the certainty of their choices have had to do some reconsidering.

Ankle injury. Out for quite a while. Fixtures will have eased up by then and I'd assume he'll slide right back in to his position, but I'd be nervous about his abilities to get forward at same skill level. Also, he isn't on penalties anymore so much of his prior appeal (and price) was tied up in that. Love him as a fan, but I don't think he'll find his way into my squad.

I know. I'm not going to get too technical here but Shaw at 5.6 and Bellerin at 5.5 etc, they are all in the same price category to me. The 5.5 category.

so this is currently where I'm at..feels a bit template but I think it's solid

    Courtois - McCarthy
    Shaw - Kolarov - Williams - Gomez - Richards
    Sahrez - Silva - Payet - Mahrez - Westwood
    Aguero - Gomis - Diouf

Best defender for 4.6m or under to complete this jigsaw.

    Ruddy, McCarthy
    Darmian, Kolorov, Gomez, Huth, 4.6m

    Hazard, Depay, Silva, Payet, Westwood
    Aguero, Gomis, Diouf

    0.2

Francis is the best option in that price bracket, but I think you could need a player with a better fixture for next week. Maybe Ward.

In an odd way, Gomis doesn't get that many chances but Pelle gets loads. Gomis is definitely more clinical.

Have to disagree. They finished 8th last year, have strengthened in key positions, and don't have any European distractions. I think they offer some stellar fantasy assets

Not so sure, they were woeful at creating chances last season and definitely over performed their statistics. However Monk has taken this on board and brought in some attacking players and that should help turn around their poor offensive stats.
