Injuries

The Treatment Table – Gameweek 3

Our regular Monday look around the treatment rooms arrives this afternoon as we scour the top-flight for confirmation of any new injuries sustained over the weekend. Southampton have worries over their Senegalese attacker, Everton’s issues at left-back increase, whilst Spurs are sweating over the availability of their Danish playmaker.

Crystal Palace
Following the death of his father, Yannick Bolasie was afforded compassionate leave for the Eagles’ victory over Aston Villa. Commenting on the tragic news, Alan Pardew will allow the DR Congo international time to grieve:

“Ironically he (Sako) wasn’t going to start. Yala was in a great place and then, bless his heart, he has this terrible news about his father. That win was for him and his family and I hope it gives them a lift. I’m not putting him under any pressure to come back. It’s about him and his family and when he feels comfortable. I couldn’t care less if it takes three weeks.”

Pardew – who is without Patrick Bamford’s services against parent club Chelsea this weekend – reckons Connor Wickham is also likely to miss out at the Bridge:

“He got kneed in the ribs against on Arsenal. He tried to train on Wednesday but couldn’t take the pain so we think he will probably miss Chelsea as well and then he will be okay.”

Everton
Brendan Galloway was substituted in the dying embers of the first half against Manchester City after picking up a knee injury. Roberto Martinez later revealed that the 19-year-old suffered a knock to his patella tendon, with an assessment forthcoming over the next few days. In better news, the Spanish boss confirmed that Bryan Oviedo should be able to cover for Galloway as he approaches a return to first-team action:

“Brendan has been terrific and we as a football club are ready to give young players an opportunity. He picked up a patella tendon problem that we’ll assess in the next 24 to 48 hours. It’s probably more to do with his age and the fact he’s still growing rather than a structural injury. Bryan Oviedo is fully fit and needs a bit of match fitness now. Hopefully we’ll see him on the pitch very soon.”

Manchester City
Nicolas Otamendi was not part of the Sky Blues’ squad for their 2-0 win over Everton due to his lack of a work permit. The Home Office are expected to clear the former Valencia defender by the middle of next week, freeing him up for a home tie against Watford.

Southampton
Sadio Mane had to be replaced by Shane Long after just 25 minutes of the Saints’ home encounter against Watford. Ronald Koeman was keen to play down the severity of the injury, expressing hope that the fleet-footed winger will be passed fit for their midweek Europea League tie:

“He had a kick on his hip. It looks not so bad, but we’ll have to wait. He was not good enough to continue. I hope that we will have everybody available for Thursday, Sadio as well.”

Sunderland
Earlier this afternoon, Dick Advocaat confirmed that Billy Jones won’t be available for tomorrow evening’s cup clash against Exeter due to injury.

Tottenham
Christian Eriksen sat out Spurs’ 1-1 draw at the King Power Stadium due to a knee injury, as confirmed by the club’s official website.

Meanwhile, Mauricio Pochettino said that new arrival Clinton Njie could make his debut in the Gameweek 4 clash against Everton, having secured his work permit and negotiated a week of training:

“He was in France for his work permit and maybe next week he will be available. First, he needs to train more with the group.”

West Bromwich Albion
Saido Berahino was absent from the Baggies’ matchday squad for their 3-2 home defeat against Chelsea, fuelling speculation that he’s poised for a much-mooted transfer to Tottenham. Pressed on the situation, Tony Pulis rejected the opportunity to explain Berahino’s no-show:

“It’s absolutely ridiculous we are talking about something outside of football. I have said what I have said about the transfer window; if you close it before the season starts then everybody can concentrate on the football. There are a lot of clubs being affected by it being open and we are playing Chelsea today – the champions – and we are not talking football, which is down to the system.”

Suspensions

John Terry received a second yellow card for pulling at West Brom striker Salomon Rondon as he raced clear of the Blues’ rearguard, meaning the Chelsea captain will miss a home clash against Palace next Gameweek. Offering his verdict after the match, Jose Mourinho declined to bemoan the decision and instead highlighted the work they’ve done in training to cope with a one-man disadvantage:

“I prefer to focus on us. To speak about the sending off I have to speak about many other things in the game – some you can see, others we can see, so many things. I have to do what is in my hands which is to train. We have to train 10 against 11. We have done it a couple of times already in Canada. We have to do it more because we have to know what to do with 10 men when you are winning, or losing, or chasing a result. The difference between today and Swansea was exactly that. Against Swansea we had 10 and we wanted to change the result, and today we had 10 and we wanted to keep the result. We must have clear ideas about it so it’s something we have to do in training, and that is the only thing in our hands.”

Carl Jenkinson was sent off for fouling Bournemouth midfielder Max Gradel as he burst into the penalty box. The Arsenal loanee now sits out the Hammers’ trip to Anfield next weekend, with James Tomkins expected to cover at the right-back berth.

Is there any rotation risk with Rojo and Blind for Shaw?

That's the bit that gets me.

I'm after a team at the minute which is .1 short of the final goal... I have Shaw for 5.5 and Darmian for 5.6 s to shave that .1, I'd have to drop Darmian and keep Shaw - I'd prefer to keep Darmian though!

Still seems 5050 but Shaw is injury prone and possible rotation risk?

Don't think he is that much of a rotation risk tbh..unless of course he has two three poor games in a row but i guess that is the same with darmian as Valencia is lurking around the corner as well

    Help Needed!!

As the weeks go by I am finding it tougher and tougher to get out of the 2m rank mark....Something or the other always gets wrong...this week for Jenkinson and Mane...

Thinking of Removing Mane and Jenkinson for a hit...So Suggestions Please!

Was thinking of getting Scott Dann as a long term replacement for Jenkinson,

No Idea whom to get for Mane....Or Keep Mane and do Deeney to Wilson

Mahrez is at 27% so not that high. Also, good value even though he has risen.

A lot to be said for taking relatively risk free punt for the first few GWs - picking stalwarts - and then wildcarding. Seems to have worked for many top players in past seasons.

    B: Yaya, Hazard, 4.0 def.

Not a lot in it. I'm not on WC yet but have Silva and Pedro. I'll probably put Haz back in on WC, when I get round to using it, which is probably not for a while considering I'm happy with my team (for now).

      A. For now. Just. But be prepared for some inevitable non-Haz owning frustration, and be ready to bring him back if needs be.

I can downgrade Pedro to Shaqiri when Hazard/Shaqiri starts to fire, and upgrade Silva to Hazard. Will give me Aguero (C) and Kolarov for City cover

Rooney is really doing my head in like. I am a newcastle fan and where I usually have faith in my boys, I am not totally daft, I thought Roo would torture us!! GRR. Keeping for one more week as I don't want to take a hit but wanted to do Mata > Yaya as needed one City mid! Howay Roon man!

Yeah available but I had really good start to season and really wanted to save it for later, means team now (without a hit, using FT for Mata > yaya)

        Guzan
        Clyne Huth Mert
        Haz Yaya Mahrez Westwood
        Aguero (c) Rooney Lakaku

        Total points 157.
It was either haz > Silver or Mata > yaya.
Thinking surely Rooney and Haz due something! I just know as soon as I ship out they will perform!

Which other striker is defo nailed on to get more than 6 points so worth the hit though?
If thre was one of those I would, would you still if taking a hit?

I'd be thinking of a downgrade, to free up funds. Gomis? Benteke based on tonights game perhaps...? or Otazaki/Wilson it's so much money tied up in the king of the flops. He's been dreadful on the ball, terrible passing and looked slow. Utd are threadbare up-front and going forward is would seem, but with Schniderlin/Swinestiger (sp??) look a better defensive prospect.

              1. Bushiosboys
                • 8 Years
                8 years, 8 months ago

Yeah that is defo my plan for next weeks FT, i'm just not sure a downgrade to one of those mentioned would score enough to justify a hit (ie 6 and thats if rooney has another blank)
I did have benteke then got rid to get aguero in so was planning on back to him at some stage.

Important deision as i'm sat at top of mini league with 4 point lead over 2nd and we have monthly highest scorer cash prizes as well as overall!

My next step will depend on what haz does.

If Haz starts performing i'll probably rooney > giroud and Westwood > a 6ish mid
If Haz doesnt start performing it will be haz > sanchez + Rooney > Costa!

Just want a sneaky little assist or something off him this week to make me feel ok about not taking a hit... (Long time before the weekend, i may not be able to resist!)

Think the early wildcarders were right.

A lot of the early season performers are maintaining output and that's aside from TV arguments.

Definitely think someone like Kane from last year will emerge before xmas - might be little pea.

Most tackles won in the Premier League this season:

    Idrissa Gueye (13)
    Chancel Mbemba (12)
    Sebastián Coates (11)
    Matteo Darmian (10)

Is Coates a BAP magnet? 😯 ...you know, assuming they ever get a CS.

Mbemba could be. Newcastle ain't the best, but they sure have more chances of CS than Sunderland.

Hmm... whoscored.com has him actually at 17 won tackles, 6 of which against Depay, so he actually had his average performance of 6/match against ManU. Add to that 2.3 interceptions and 8 clearances/match (but those he had 13 against ManU), and he has baps guaranteed in event of CS.

    Hi guys
Is it worth bringing in Kolorov for -4 this week before price rises again?
If so who would you replace from Alderweireld or Cedric? (rest of def Darmian,Gomez,Oxford)

    1. rnrd
      • 9 Years

I would wait for the Kolarov case.
Everyone says there are absolutely no reason he will be rotated when Cluchy back but there was no reson the previous years too (since he had one of the best points per minute ratio of FPL) but still he was heavily rotated with CLichy.

Most people will say no, but I brought Kol in for -4 this week and look what happened there. 15 points.

It's a gamble, though, and the chances of him replicating this week again are always going to be slim.

      But it is Kolarov...
