Treatment Table – Gameweek 5

League leaders Man City have plenty to fret over this weekend, with Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Raheem Sterling all doubtful for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Juventus. There’s worries in the red half of Manchester, too, after Wayne Rooney missed the 3-1 win over Liverpool with a hamstring complaint. Here’s our regular round-up of all the fresh arrivals onto the treatment table…

Crystal Palace

Damien Delaney is carrying a knock so was replaced by Brede Hangeland in the starting lineup against Manchester City, while Jason Puncheon was withdrawn at the 83-minute mark with a knock following a foul by Eliaquim Mangala.

Everton

Seamus Coleman and Muhamed Besic both sustained suspected hamstring injuries during Everton’s 3-1 win over Chelsea. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We’ll have to assess Seamus and Mo and see how they are. But the important thing was that everyone who had to be alert and come on to the pitch was fully focused and I think the strength in the squad is starting to show now. Having those numbers helps you be consistent over the course of the season and clearly it showed today.”

Manchester City

Sergio Aguero was forced off at the 25-minute mark during Manchester City’s trip to Crystal Palace, having taken a strong blow to the knee from a crude challenge from Palace’s Scott Dann. Sky Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini implied that the Argentina international will be touch-and-go for their midweek Champions League tie against Juventus:

“It was an important kick on his knee. We’ll see if he can recover between now and Tuesday. It’s very difficult to say now. It’s important to see how he recovers. We’ll see.”

Aguero, meanwhile, took to Twitter last night to play down the seriousness of his withdrawal:

“Thanks everyone for your concern. I got a hard hit and it prevented me from playing more. It doesn’t seem to be a serious injury though.”

Earlier this evening, he gave another update on his condition:

“I had studies done today, to be completed tomorrow. We’ll have a clearer picture then”.

David Silva was ruled out of the Eagles clash by virtue of an ankle complaint, but Pellegrini is optimstic he’ll recover in time to face Juventus on Tuesday:

“Silva is out as I think it would be a risk for him to take another knock on his ankle. I hope he will be OK for Juventus.”

As for Raheem Sterling, the former Liverpool starlet is expected to shake of a minor hamstring injury:

“Raheem has a problem with his hamstring so I think it was a risk for him to play today. I hope he is 100% fit for Tuesday.”

Manchester United

Wayne Rooney was sidelined for the Red Devils’ 3-1 victory over Liverpool after suffering a hamstring problem in training. He is expected to miss their midweek tie against PSV Eindhoven, but Louis van Gaal believes he could be passed fit for their trip to Southampton next weekend:

“He is injured so we have to take care of him. I think he is very important for us and I don’t to take any risks so that’s why he doesn’t play today. I don’t think he will play against PSV Eindhoven, but maybe he shall play at Southampton. We have to wait and see if he can play against PSV because we still have three days to go.”

Stoke City

Jonathan Walters was not included in the Potters’ matchday squad at Arsenal due to a flare-up of his knee injury. Mark Hughes admitted that the Ireland international will undergo a scan in the coming days.

Tottenham

Nabil Bentaleb missed out against the Black Cats with an ankle injury and is expected to be ruled out for three to four weeks having suffered ligament damage.

Ryan Mason was involved in a heavy collision with Sunderland keeper Costel Pantilimon while he scored the winning goal. Mauricio Pochettino revealed after the match that Mason will undergo checks on Monday:

“We will assess Mason tomorrow. It was a big knock on the knee. It was a great goal and we showed how we try to play.”

West Bromwich Albion

Jonny Evans was taken off after 85 minutes against Southampton, although Tony Pulis later said that the new arrival likely just suffered cramping.

Barkely's predicted price rise made my Chadli>Barkley move relatively straightforward. I'd suggest Ayew though if you don't already own him.

Kane / Giroud > Tekkers IMO.

Currently got Schmeichel + Hennessey and i am not happy!

Manutd dont have the easiest fixtures.. but how does De Gea sound as a Schmeichel replacement? Other option is to replace Hennessey with Myhill with Schmeichel acting as back up incase Lindegaard/Foster take the starting spot.
Begovic an option too and maybe even Hart though he could be a lil too expensive and does not offer save points

Thoughts? Got 2.4 in the bank.. but while i'm rich now i could need the cash in a few weeks again. this is fpl after all

    1. Captain Peacock
      • 10 Years

De gea is a fine option. Also consider Gomes if you're worried about money

Gomes seems a good option i agree.. will get him alongside Schmeichel rather than instead of him if i get him though. His fixtures till GW 12 are worse than Schmeichel's according to the ticker(does not really have the easiest home games) .. Aim is to get in on the Manutd/City/WBA defenses though. Tired of trying to survive without em 🙂 (Only have Kolarov atm)

    2. Mata-Is-The-Juan

Myhill. You know Pulis will park the bus and he's good for save points. Hell, earning max BAPs these days.

Fair enough. If you've got no pressing issue. The DDG move looks good on paper. United aren't really firing at the moment so you not really missing out on potential attacking players.

Thanks mate.. Just checked Schmeichel/Myhill and it looks fantastic! i get a playing backup and good fixtures from Schmeichel in a few weeks if Myhill misses out. And i save 0.3 over DDG too. may well go that way! thanks 🙂

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to wildcard a couple of weeks from now. If trends remain as they are, should I make my wildcard team reflect the new reality and play 4-5-1/4-4-2 without big hitters, or stick with 3-4-3 and premium attacking players?

Or, in short, has the reality of the league changed or is everything going to return to the way it was?

For now go with what is working. I would go strong defense and then make small changes towards attacking if the big names and big hitters return.

I ask because there's a lot of love for Myhill, making reference specifically to his fixtures. I realise the is the TPD effect, but this is a derby game. Surely there's gonna be goals in it?

You're right actually Epic. Suppose I was more interested in opening the conversation than keeping the thought and research to myself.

But I also suppose I could have done the research and brought it to the table, rather than being a lazy git!

This is a great resource, though, thanks mate. And it shows that the last two (post-Pulis ties) at Villa park have seen Albion concede two each time. This is making my decision below a little easier.

              Thanks!

Villa won 3 out of the last 5 fixtures, WBA won only one.

Thanks mate. That's helpful. I'm thinking primarily of whether past games have been tight (defensively) or not.

Gonna refer to my mate Google....

    Morning DZ. Choose one:

    A) Ritchie or Mane -> Ayew
    B) Kane or Pelle -> Wilson
    C) Take a hit

Tricky one. I'd probably go McCarthy, Chelsea shipping goals & Spurs quite impotent in attack.

I have to play Myhill (avl) or Butland (LEI) this week, on Myhill at the moment - your opinion?

The key to being a successful Chadli owner is to never watch a Spurs game. I failed over the weekend and duely proceeded to get rid.

Yeah - He doesn't get as many good positions as others but he is more clinical in the final third. Yesterday's performance was bad though that's for sure.

You preaching to the choir. I was hoping he'd be the player I never got rid of but that Spurs team doesn't exactly scream goals atm. Might come back for him when Eriksen is back or when he scores again. Whichever happens 1st.

Spurs fans reckon he is gonna be dropped if Eriksen/Njie/Dembele etc are match fit. i dont disagree. he has been awful as far as real life football is considered of late

I'm gonna follow-up my previous post... I'm gonna be making a defensive FT this week... (after I confirm Aguero's fitness)

And it's likely to be either:

    Richards (WBA) > Francis (SUN)

    OR

    Guzan (WBA) > Krul (WAT)

I was all set for Myhill, but I'm worried it's a future (1st Oct) transfer waiting to happen, and my rotation with Butland is probably going to see the latter playing a few of the upcoming games anyway.

Newcastle face Chelsea and City after Watford. I know we all lolling at Chelsea now but hard to see Newcastle shutting both teams out.

Regarding Myhill, worse case scenario you forced into using a FT or taking a hit. That's the worse case scenario. The other scenario is Myhill keeps his place as he should cos he's not put a foot wrong and you take him out with your WC (The Jan one if you've already used the 1st one). Live a little people.

You're right... but in my rotation, while Krul sits out those two tough games, Butland has the following fixtures: BOU, avl, so I'd be covered, then Krul has some nice fixtures...NOR, sun, STO

With regards the WC, I have used the 1st one, but the 2nd one is not a Jan WC, it's a second half of the season WC and I don't want to be using it in Jan personally.

          Appreciate your thoughts mate

If you have 2 FTs then Francis is a good pick. Very attacking.

      If not, save it IMO

My thoughts exactly. I'm in a quandary between what I believe is a good chance of a cleansheet from Krul, versus a potential clean sheet from a defender who could get some attacking returns at home to Sunderland...

I have to score score some rapid points because I've rage-bet one of the casuals in my ML than I'd be above him by the end of Sep (before I though on about the international break). He doesn't have Aguero, Sanchez, Kolorov, Pedro, Mahrez, so I'd be ok if Aguero and Sanchez had smashed this week, but I'm worried now.

I'm keeping I the back of my mind the structuring of a team with strong fixtures in two weeks, so if I'm close enough I could swing it with a Bench Boost

From a FF perspective I'd love Zabaleta to be out for a bit longer, because Sagna is such great value at the minute.

Anyone got any news on Zab's injury? & do we reckon he will most likely be back in the team when fit?

For all of us who still have our WC left to play and are targeting international breaks(post GW 8 and GW 12) to play em.. maybe it's better to target the GW AFTER the international break instead? a lot of minor injuries/rests for players after internationals could lead us to sacrifice the team we'd want long term to accomodate for short term injuries. Also, as we've seen price changes are not a huge factor in internationals anyway

Me benching Hoolahan for Pedro and overlooking the likes of Barkley (good form, poor fixtures) pretty much encapsulates this season in one decision.
