Treatment Table – Gameweek 5

League leaders Man City have plenty to fret over this weekend, with Sergio Aguero, David Silva and Raheem Sterling all doubtful for Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Juventus. There’s worries in the red half of Manchester, too, after Wayne Rooney missed the 3-1 win over Liverpool with a hamstring complaint. Here’s our regular round-up of all the fresh arrivals onto the treatment table…

Crystal Palace

Damien Delaney is carrying a knock so was replaced by Brede Hangeland in the starting lineup against Manchester City, while Jason Puncheon was withdrawn at the 83-minute mark with a knock following a foul by Eliaquim Mangala.

Everton

Seamus Coleman and Muhamed Besic both sustained suspected hamstring injuries during Everton’s 3-1 win over Chelsea. Post-match, Roberto Martinez went on to say:

“We’ll have to assess Seamus and Mo and see how they are. But the important thing was that everyone who had to be alert and come on to the pitch was fully focused and I think the strength in the squad is starting to show now. Having those numbers helps you be consistent over the course of the season and clearly it showed today.”

Manchester City

Sergio Aguero was forced off at the 25-minute mark during Manchester City’s trip to Crystal Palace, having taken a strong blow to the knee from a crude challenge from Palace’s Scott Dann. Sky Blues boss Manuel Pellegrini implied that the Argentina international will be touch-and-go for their midweek Champions League tie against Juventus:

“It was an important kick on his knee. We’ll see if he can recover between now and Tuesday. It’s very difficult to say now. It’s important to see how he recovers. We’ll see.”

Aguero, meanwhile, took to Twitter last night to play down the seriousness of his withdrawal:

“Thanks everyone for your concern. I got a hard hit and it prevented me from playing more. It doesn’t seem to be a serious injury though.”

Earlier this evening, he gave another update on his condition:

“I had studies done today, to be completed tomorrow. We’ll have a clearer picture then”.

David Silva was ruled out of the Eagles clash by virtue of an ankle complaint, but Pellegrini is optimstic he’ll recover in time to face Juventus on Tuesday:

“Silva is out as I think it would be a risk for him to take another knock on his ankle. I hope he will be OK for Juventus.”

As for Raheem Sterling, the former Liverpool starlet is expected to shake of a minor hamstring injury:

“Raheem has a problem with his hamstring so I think it was a risk for him to play today. I hope he is 100% fit for Tuesday.”

Manchester United

Wayne Rooney was sidelined for the Red Devils’ 3-1 victory over Liverpool after suffering a hamstring problem in training. He is expected to miss their midweek tie against PSV Eindhoven, but Louis van Gaal believes he could be passed fit for their trip to Southampton next weekend:

“He is injured so we have to take care of him. I think he is very important for us and I don’t to take any risks so that’s why he doesn’t play today. I don’t think he will play against PSV Eindhoven, but maybe he shall play at Southampton. We have to wait and see if he can play against PSV because we still have three days to go.”

Stoke City

Jonathan Walters was not included in the Potters’ matchday squad at Arsenal due to a flare-up of his knee injury. Mark Hughes admitted that the Ireland international will undergo a scan in the coming days.

Tottenham

Nabil Bentaleb missed out against the Black Cats with an ankle injury and is expected to be ruled out for three to four weeks having suffered ligament damage.

Ryan Mason was involved in a heavy collision with Sunderland keeper Costel Pantilimon while he scored the winning goal. Mauricio Pochettino revealed after the match that Mason will undergo checks on Monday:

“We will assess Mason tomorrow. It was a big knock on the knee. It was a great goal and we showed how we try to play.”

West Bromwich Albion

Jonny Evans was taken off after 85 minutes against Southampton, although Tony Pulis later said that the new arrival likely just suffered cramping.

    I'm going to have a rant

    I hate ruddy! I've never disliked a player so much for a while now. Norwich can't keep a cleansheet for love nor money and seeing him get 2 points every week is an embarrassment to my fantasy football prowess

      You should've started with Myhill.

        One of the first names in my initial draft but all that pre season chatter of Pulis looking for a replacement put me off. Oh well! At least I got it right in my head 😀

          I'll start the gloat train...for starting this season with each of Myhill, Kolarov, and Gomis I sure would like a better rank than 400k! 🙁

    Got 2 free transfers, any tips? Really annoyed with my GKs so should start there...

    Schmeichel
    Kolarov, Kos, Cedric
    Sanchez, Ayew, Depay, Mahrez
    Aguero, Benteke, Sakho

    Hennessey, Francis, Fletcher, Saylor

    I was thinking Schmeichel + Sakho -> De Gea + Diouf

            both. his touch was bad, headless chicken running around the place, service also poor.

            the goal came late but would be interesting to see how it affects his mental state next game. alot of relief on his face when he scored.

    What should I do with this lot:

    Ruddy l Rudd
    Kolarov l Williams l Jenkinson l Francis l Huth
    Sanchez l Silva l Ayew l Chadli l Fletcher
    Aguero l Diouf l Wilson

    1FT / 2.2ITB

    A) Chadli --> Marhez

        Worries me that this fixture last season saw goals in league and cup. Gonna be a tough decision between him and Souare. I fancy Papa for a clean sheet or even an assist against Spurs on Sunday. They are always terrible after the Europa League.

    With the Coutinho chat here made me think.

    Are there some 'popular' Fantasy players that you never own? For some reason i have never had (over the years)

    Chadli
    Coutinho
    Carzola
    Never really got on Baines (prob a mistake)
    Miralles
    Kolorov (until this season)
    Eriksen
    SUND Johnson or Larsson

    Yet time and time again i have been burnt with
    Benteke and Lukaku and gone back for more

    1. M8

      You're list is similar to mine. I've never touched Chadli because he used to always be rotated and subbed plus I've never rated Spurs. I had a spell with Cazorla until Wenger started playing him to deep. Never had Baines, Mirallas or even Eriksen.

      Lukaku is a troll. I worked out why. He only has about 2 shots per game at everton, when he first started at wba he had about 4 a game.

      Since this is only my second season as a non-casual my list of stay away from players includes:

      Lukaku

      High priced keepers

    Whatcha reckon?

    A) Coates -> Gomez
    B) Bellerin -> Kolarov
    C) Mane -> Coutinho
    D) Ruddy -> Butland/Myhill/Bego

    Ruddy
    Shaw, Targett
    Sanchez, Silva, Mane, Mahrez, Sinclair
    Kun, Tekkers, Wilson

    Rudd, Bellerin, Huth, Coates
    Bank 0.5m, 1FT
    AOA to be played this week

        Cheers. I'm thinking about WCing for GW8, so a LIV player looks a good bet for the next 2 (NOR/AVL). Mane does have 2 home games in a row though so perhaps I should keep the faith with him. Whereas I don't see a clean sheet for Bellerin away to che or lei, so perhaps he should go for the next 2...

        Would you prefer either Clynes/Skrtel over Kolarov for the next 2 games only?

        NOR/AVL vs WHU/tot

          If you're set on Mané, then good luck mate. I can see where you're coming from regarding Bellerin, though either way I'd choose Kolarov over those two, easy attacking home game & an even easier CS vs a dire Spurs attack.

      I have almost the same problem. I was going for coates to j.evans. But the west brom keeper gets the bonuses and doesn't get injured. Now I'm going for C (Ozil to coutinho) as a punt

        I think an ARS -> a LIV player makes complete sense from a fixtures perspective, but we are still creating a lot of chances and I expect us to score a few goals over the next 2, so Ozil out could bite. Might be worth the gamble though!

        Reckon I should plan a GW8 WC with this squad?

          It's similar to mine. I don't know, does anything special happen in gw 8? The problem with yours and mine are the weak links in defence that's not an excuse for a wildcard

      Bellerin is looking hot at the moment so I'd be reluctant to ship him out of defence. I'd maybe save then look to do Huth/Coates -> Kolarov as part of a 2FT restructuring.

        Cheers. I think a lot boils down to whether or not I plan to WC in GW8. If yes then I don't mind losing Bellerin for che/lei before bringing him back on a WC (I agree he looks excellent).

        A GW8 WC would mean I could then ship the LIV and other trash out and also load up on CHE, MCY, ARS etc for their good run.
