The Big Numbers – Defenders – Last Four Gameweeks

Our first members article of the international break arrives this afternoon. Assessing the players by classification across the last four Gameweeks, we look at the impact made by Southampton and City’s new centre-halves, Newcastle’s raiding right-back and Palace’s big Norwegian as Alan Pardew’s defence starts to tighten up.

Interesting quotes by Wenger on Theo. Is Theo finally the first choice striker?

“I must say Walcott had a hugely committed performance today, and a very convincing one,”

"He was involved in the Ozil one and the Sanchez one, he really fought today. He’s shown he can fight and commit and protect the ball as well. He’s gaining some aspects of his game as a centre-forward."

“In this position it was one of his best games. I was always convinced by him as a number nine. When a guy plays well it is difficult to find people who are not convinced.”

He is 100% first choice now. Giroud's confidence looks shot and is only going to be getting worse sat on the bench. Theo is da man.

Kolorov / Darmian / Williams (Nyom, Oxford)

Debruyn / Sanchez / Payet / Mahrez (Hoolahan)

Always played (benched) a cheap 5th mid but finding it really reassuring having a strong front 8 this time. Sure I will have bench points, but 10 bench points is the same as no bench points... Unless you need them. Last week having Ighalo meant I didn't need to do anything with Yaya and I got nine points from the player who would have been sub (and will be again this week)

Is it really worth saving .5m to have a naff 8th mid/fwd?

I agree. I've never understood that "benching headache" nonsense....you miss a players pts whether you have him in your squad or not, what's the difference?...other than the fact you may get them when needed.

Once upon a time when I was a casual I used to rotate my 8 attackers. After getting annoyed with points benched (the main culprits were Sinclair, Brunt and Walters) I decided to have a cheap 5th mid to avoid the pain of points benched. The end

I'm with you WR. Right now I have a full eight, with Ighalo, Mahrez, Mane, and Payet my most likely benchers depending on fixtures. Lots of dilemmas, chance of big bench points, but I like it, especially coming off an international break.

good point if you could digest and move on without feeling bad for yourself.benching a 10-15 pointer

I changed over to a viable eighth on my wild card and like it. It halo was a great early return on that idea.

One thing sometimes overlooked when counting 0.5 or less is the points you hold onto in terms of transfers saved. Avoiding hits or transfers like you did is an excellent source of points over the long haul.

I also find a strong front 8 very reassuring. I fell into it quite randomly, too. Knee-jerked in Payet after his brace in gw5, and had enough cash to do a straight swap with Westwood. I haven't looked back.
Mahrez's no-show last week meant Ighalo's points off the bench.

So I have this serious FPL weakness: I like to have players throughout the GW. I probably have other weaknesses, but this is the obvious one that makes me do things others would say are stupid. I look at GW 9 and all I can think is, "how do I get players for Sunday and Monday?"

    Two questions:

    1. Anyone else have this problem?

    2. How mad is it for me to switch Ighalo to Ayoze so I have someone playing after Saturday?

I totally get this, and I like mine too: I play this game to enjoy it, and while I seriously try to do well (I'm not cavalier) the whole attraction is having FPL assets to make watching football more fun. I enjoy the whole thing more if I have hopes through the GW, even if they are dashed.

Due to a frustrating start and trying play catch up to my wife who is 38 points ahead of me!!!!!!!!!!! (Insert embarrassed sad face) I've made some rash decisions and I'm not loving my team at the moment, some advice from the community is needed.

Ranking 290k which isn't too bad but with the Mrs being in the top 40k it needs to improve and quickly.

Current team for next game week:

    Butland

    Martin, Francis, Richards

    Sanchez, Hazard, Mahrez, Morrison

    Agurero, Kane, Lakaku

    Subs: McCarthy, Hoolahan, Huth, Targett

£0.9 in the bank, a few ideas but what does everyone think I need to focus on as a priority? Wildclard went at GW 4

Your prioity should be your 4th Mid and defence,

      If you've got 2 FT's, i'd start with

Morrison and Kane > Payet and Vardy

Ideally you wanna lose Kane, morrison, Hazard maybe, and most of your defenders
Kane for either Ighalo or Vardy.
      Morrison for Payet
Defence needs more money for the likes of Dawson, Bellerin, Cedric, to name a few options. You may have to downgrade Hazard to afford them

In the chances conceded section, is the left flank the attackers's left flank or the defence's left flank.

What sort of season do you see Lukaka having? More than 20 goals?

I think he could easily hit 20, be surprised if he doesn't hit 15 - only needs another 10 for that and he's got 30 odd games to do it.
