The ScoutCast – Episode 172 – Fuzzy

We take Fantasy Football seriously. So much so, myself, Granville and Jonty find time each week to join up online and natter semi-aimlessly about it. Some of you even go so far to watch and listen. We all take Fantasy Football that seriously.

That’s why we dedicate this episode of the ScoutCast to Fuzzy Warbles, whose passion for Fantasy Football drove him to scribe a long letter to the Premier League. In doing so, he raised his head above the parapet to gain the attention from the mainstream press and various Twitterati.

Predictably, that attention was somewhat confused as to why someone would care so much about a few points to muster an 800-word email.

We know why.

The three of us are more than happy to waste more words discussing “CedricGate”, the catalyst for Fuzzy’s irritation.

Before that, we analyse Gameweek 9, discuss the contrasting fortunes of Jamie Vardy, Anthony Martial and Eden Hazard, plus assess the Gameweek 11 fixture swing. We may have a few chuckles along the way, but we’re taking it very seriously.

This episode of the ScoutCast was first broadcast live on our YouTube channel on Tuesday night. You can view the full version on the larger movie player below.

I fully expect Pardew go go to the King Power with a team that will park the bus and sit back. As good as Palace are, especially on the road I think he knows that with the form Leicster are in that trying to out score them goal for goal will be a very tough task so I think his first priority will be to try and keep a clean sheet and then maybe nick a goal on the break in the second half as Leicester get more frustrated and are pushing players forward for the win. I think the 0-0 comment from him is purely mind games and in actual fact is a very likely result.

Interesting. I really see it as a free flowing end to end game though with Pardew having the ego to make proclamations and expecting his side to be able to go and outscore the other one!

0-0 is extremely unlikely. As a Foxes fan I can see 3-2 at one end of the spectrum and 0-1 at the other. I fully expect Palace to score and I'll be heartbroken if City don't.

Will Sagna and Naughton play? Im not sure they will, Naughton been kept out the team as of last game week and all citys fullbacks are back.

My defense for this week is Myhill, Huth, Richards, Alder. But I also have Mahrez and Vardy so triple Leicester is a gamble but one im willing to take.

I don't really see a banker this weekend. I think Arsenal will beat us, but if we play well we can turn any team over (we've shown it many a time). Arsenal also may be tired, or unable to focus, after such a great yet exhausting win in midweek.

I have started this season far better than any season before, but have noticed that my own tactics are changing in response.

Usually I am happy to be in the top 500,000 by this stage and am building up a good team value, which supports me in the later stages. This season I am in the top 1k. But is this causing me to adjust how I play the game? I have yet to pick Vardy, as I have three strikers (Pelle, Lukaku and Costa) who have fixtures on their side and I expect them to do well over the next 6 weeks. But if I weren't doing so well, I would have trsnferred out one of them (any of them) for Vardy this week week, ahead of his 0.2 rise, with a focus on building that TV.

Am I letting it slip? Is my excellent early position going to come back and bite me, or should I be playing the game slightly differently having started differently to most seasons?

just looked at your team... quite similar to mine in places and the same midfield...

      i got moreno this week...nice pick 🙂

Vardy is a must at the moment, i would have him if i were you...

      Very nice ranking well done.

Who do I put him in for? And is he worth a -4 (I have made a midfield transfer this week already). Any "normal" season I'd be taking hits all over the place, but now I have a decent score I'm afraid of -4s!

Just looked at your team as well, look very good! That defence is bound to serve you well (at least better than mine) this week. And yeah, pretty much the same midfield! You also have a better TV than me, which could help you catch me up later on...

    2. Doolittle
      • 11 Years
      8 years, 6 months ago

Firstly, fantastic rank! What a start to the season that is!

Yes, I think it's rather inevitable that different ranks will yield different tactics. If you are struggling, the temptation can be to start taking punts to catch up, or to doubt your own decision making and start to work by committee, and simply copy what everyone else is doing (this ties in with catching price rises as you mentioned). As you say, the strategy may need to become "build TV and make a surge in the 2nd half of the season".

When you're doing as well as you are, on one hand you may play your own game and trust your instincts. However, a danger then arises that you will make decisions based on fear, not ambition. I know that, for a period last season when I was top 1k, I started to be more focused on what everyone else was doing around me than what I was doing. You start to worry about dropping more than hoping to rise, and my rank suffered as a result. I dropped significantly before clawing it back towards the end of the season, when I played my own game again.

In the season I finished 296, I didn't care about what people were doing around me at all. I made decisions solely based on maximising my points and, obviously couple with some luck through the season, it paid off. I always vow to avoid what other people around my rank are doing, and I never look at ownership, because the one time I did it cost me.

      1. Sharkytect

Cheers Doolittle; some really good advice, there. I've never had a finishing rank like that (just made the top 10k for the first time last year), but I don't want to be happy with reaching the top 1k. I'd rather push on and attempt to climb the ranks, rather than hold this position. So thanks for the advice - I will focus on my own team, not top 1k average player selections!

Of course, with the Vardy situation specifically, both "following the crowd" and "making decisions to maximise points" suggest I should have brought Vardy in this week. But now that will come at a cost of -4. Another tactic I have pretty much always employed, is to avoid taking hits to remove players who are fully fit and likely to play. Therefore, I could not excuse myself for removing Costa, Pelle or Lukaku for a hit this week. I'm gonna hold on the Vardy transfer until after Saturday's games and reassess - his fixtures are still good for a while.

        Captain Costa this week!

        1. Doolittle
          • 11 Years
          8 years, 6 months ago

I certainly wouldn't ditch any of your strikers for a hit. Vardy is excellent, he is in my team, and may even be captain this week, but one option can often distract from the others. Pelle and Lukaku are fantastic choices, I have Pelle and will likely get Lukaku next week, and while I'm not completely sold on Costa/Chelsea due to their form, he's capable of finding consistency.

I would certainly reassess Vardy next week, but definitely not for a hit.

For price and points i think Vardy is a must at the moment...his consistency is fautless.
Who i would take out from your from your front three is a tough one though.

          Who was your midfield transfer?

            Hoolahan > wijnaldum.

Seems a little knee jerky, but this is genuinely me sticking with my normal attitude: I had him on my watchlist following some reasaonble performances ahead of a dramatic turn in fixtures. Already got Janmaat im for the same reasons.

After he scored 4, I decided to jump on the wagon partly for the price rise, but I wouldn't have done so if he had been.playing badly prior to those goals or had tough fixtures ahead.

Also, Hoolahan doesn’t appear to be nailed for 90 minutes, which is what I demand of my 5th midfielder!

    Save FT & GTG?

    Butland
    Kolarov - Zouma - Williams
    Sanchez - KDB - Payet - Mahrez
    Pelle - Gomis - Vardy (C)

    Myhill - Wanyama - Darmian - Francis (1FT / 5.0 ITB)

    Cheers.

    Which is the best option?

    A) Sako to another 5th mid (priced below 6) and get bony/lukaku next week.

    B) Gomis to ayoze and get a premium mid for sako next week.

I keep seeing posts of great ranks and the like but is anyone else doing badly?

For me it really comes down to my captains faltering every week (bar Aguero). I dont have Payet or Vardy and cant get a CS for the life of me so thats certainly not helped.

Well Captain choices are usually the thing that propels you to top 10k rather than sitting at top 100k, to my belief at least.

Thats just how seasons go i believe. You clearly know how to pick the players when season has evolved a little bit and thats a great skill to have.

          CS odds favor RIchards
Richards no YC threat and has better goal threat than Darmian too

So I'm an owner of Coutinho.. my stupid Liverpool-heart making decisions for me..

I was/am planning to keep him this GW too, but after watching the game yesterday I'm afraid he could be dropped/rested With Firmino and Benteke back..

Anyone have thoughts on this? Is he nailed on to start?

What defender to bring in to complete this defence? Can afford up to 5.4 (Jags/Rojo?) but think that might be too much spent in defence and better to bank some cash for elsewhere?

    Begovic - Hennesey

    Bellerin - Bertrand - Janmaat - Moreno - ???
